Stampin’ Up! Feathery Friendly Tabs & Squares!

Happy Long-Weekend, y’all!  Hope wherever you are will give you a lovely weekend to enjoy outdoors – and not surface-of-the-sun hot, either!  And, please, while you’re preparing for your family picnics and parties on Monday – take a moment to remember the folks still fighting the good fight so we can enjoy our weekend in safety and peace.

So, the other day, when I made the sponged squares card, I actually got about 1/4 of a way thru the card I’m sharing with y’all today.  I had a concept in my head, but…it really needed a few extra colors (remember the sponged window card was working a Green/Gray/White color challenge.  You can see that one right here if you didn’t get to see it before.)  I finally gave up on it – at some point in the day, you have to cut your losses and drive on.  Or do your blog post at midnight! 😉

But – I held on to the squares I’d stamped and cut.  I was using the Host-exclusive stamp set called Feathery Friends and a little of the new Fresh Florals DSP Stack.  When I went to finish it, I added a few sentiment images from the new Tabs For Everything stamp set to make a pretty little card for y’all.  Take a look-see:

This sketch, from the CAS-ual Fridays blogspot, is one I’d been intrigued with since I saw it.

And I figured I’d play along with the Stamp Ink Paper challenge, too.  I mean – I’m a Card Maker.  And this was my choice, so… 🙂

To begin, I stamped the pretty little flower from the Feathery Friends stamp set in Tranquil Tide ink on Whisper White and cut it with the smallest Stitched Shapes square die (that’s about 1 1/8″ square).  I matted each square on a scalloped-edge square cut from a piece of Tranquil Tide paper in the new Fresh Florals DSP Stack.  I did that 8 times in all!

I lightly colored each flower with my Powder Pink Stampin’ Writes Marker – be careful doing this, the Tranquil Tide ink will bleed!  Then I used Liquid Glue to adhere each square to my Whisper White card front.  I left the center square open.

The center, sentiment, square is cut from Whisper White with a second Stitched Shapes Framelits die.  I stamped the little bird from Feathery Friends in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and colored it with my Tranquil Tide, Powder Pink and yes, Lemon-Lime Twist!!, Stampin’ Write Markers.

For my sentiment, I pulled a couple of words from the handy little Tabs For Everything (avail 1 June!) and stamped them in Tranquil Tide.  This is a photopolymer set, so it was easy to get the words right where I wanted them.

I matted the square on a scalloped-edge square of the Tranquil Tide Fresh Florals DSP and popped it over the top of the other squares with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I adhered the panel to a Powder Pink mat and then wrapped a piece of Powder Pink 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon around it, securing it in the back with scotch tape.  Then I used another short length to tie a “faux bow” – which is just a tight knot around the first piece of ribbon, with the ends trimmed nicely.  And that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I stamped the flowers from Feathery Friends in Tranquil Tide a few times on a Whisper White panel.  Then I colored them with the Powder Pink Stampin’ Write Marker.

I SNAILd the panel to a Powder Pink mat and into my Tranquil Tide card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more of the Feathery Friends flowers across the front…

…and then I added a little more Tranquil Tide Fresh Florals DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I really love this kind of card – with the grid of images.  And I think this one, with the flowers from Feathery Friends, came out just right!  I hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix…

Our days are driven by routine – it’s a by-product of having animals.  Dog goes out when I get up.

Dog comes in and has a nap.

We feed the horses at 8.  Run the dog around.  Play some bumper.  He goes for a pond.

Let the horses out.  Clean the stalls.

Back inside.  Mom starts her work day on the computer.

Cats beg for food.

Dog eats cat food Mom throws for noisy cats.

Cat settles down for a snooze by the back door – especially when it’s a nice summer day and the door’s open.

That’s Leo.  He’s eyeballing some chipmunks and a few birds.

Finn – checks out breakfast and usually decides he’s not hungry yet.

Time to join the cat in the morning snooze.

That’s our morning,

All the mornings!

Life is good.

Gorgeous card!! I love the quilted vibe it has – not that I quilt😉 Routine is good! Hope you have a wonderful long weekend!!

    • Yep – this card is as close as I get to quilting anything!! Thanks so much, Elisha – and….you, too! 🙂

  2. Your routine sounds very enjoyable and fun. How old is Leo? Your card is so dainty and feminine. All the work you put into it paid off. Great job lining up the squares perfectly. Have a great weekend.

    • It’s not awful! Thanks much, Karen – and you enjoy your weekend, too! Hi to Perry! 🙂

      • And – sorry – Leo and Katy (his twin sister) are 14 this year. 🙁

      • Perry says hello back! Our first kitty lived to be 17 and was an outdoor/indoor cat. Our current kitty is 8 and is strictly indoor except we have a screened in lanai and screened spa area so she gets free run of that! In think indoor kitties have a longer life span…I’m hoping!

      • It’s a proven fact that they live longer than their outdoor friends. Glad yours is inside! I hope one day we have our screen porch built so they can go “outside”, too! 🙂

Beautiful card…love the colors, bird and flowers.
Yes indeed…I get the routine thing. Let the dog out, feed the dog, give the dog pills, p.u. after the dog, give the dog a snack, kennel the dog, get the mail, let the dog out, feed the dog, go to bed when dog says it’s time. All punctuated by talk to the dog, rub the dog’s belly, pet the dog….all the
E while loving the dog and trying to knit. 🙂

  4. Hi Mary, I love the tiled background you’ve created with that image. Thanks so much for joining our 100th challenge this week at Stamp, Ink, Paper. Carolyn xx

  5. Love it Mary! The little bird is just perfectly colored and the patchwork look background is fantastic! 🙂 Sweet pictures of the critters too!

I hope you have a great weekend. I attended a wedding last night, have a gardening class this morning, and company from all over for the rest of the weekend. Plan to visit cemeteries later today.
I really like this card and the way you made it not square. Great color combination too. I ordered the Feathery Friends set. See lots of possibilities for it. Routine is good, both for us and for the animals.
That is, unless it gets to be not routine, but a rut!

    • Yikes – you’re a busy bee!! Have fun with your company and your cemetery visits! 🙂 Sometimes I would like to step out of the routine/rut. Not get out of bed. Watch movies all day…. 😉 Thanks much, Julie – and I think you’ll have a lot of fun with this set. 🙂

It’s obvious that you put in lots of time making this beauty! Just lining up the tiles so perfectly requires lots of effort. Love that pretty pink ribbon accent, too! How nice that Leo and Finn have become friends! Caring for animals does set the routine around our homes, but we wouldn’t trade it for anything! Our collie, Major, gave us a little scare recently with a leg injury, but after a vet visit, he’s on the mend. Major received lots of admiring looks at the vet’s ….. he is a beautiful boy and always attracts attention.

    • Aww – glad he’s on the mend! Sometimes they just need a visit to the vet (and a big bill for mom!!) to feel better. Give him a pat for me! The cats tolerate Finn. He doesn’t understand why they don’t herd so good. I’ve played the Super Bowl commercial for him – he still doesn’t get it! 🙂 Thanks so much, Rita – I was tickled with how it turned out! 🙂

Such talent to not only think of the design with that stamp set but to line it all up so perfectly! Beautiful card! Beautiful animals too.

  9. Paula

So glad you saved your work for another try. The card is fabulous! Many times I get frustrated while attempting something. I will put it aside for a day or week or even a month…but eventually I dig it back out and either finish what I started or do an about face and create something totally different and have little or no waste.
I was The Person to a very nervous Black Lab for nearly 12 years. Routine was what he needed the most. I miss him terribly but do not miss the the “routine” one iota! Now if I had yours and Finns routine…Think I could live with that. You two ALMOST make me want another dog. I did say Almost.
For now I’ll live vicariously through you and Finn. He is so Handsome! You are doing a wonderful job with him.
And you are doing a wonderful job with blog and the cards and the facebook live as well.
Keep on doing what you are doing.

    • Thanks so much for the nice words – I appreciate them very much! “Nervous” adds an entire ‘nuther dimension to the routine, there’s no doubt. Finn is – fortunately – only nervous about a few little things, so we got lucky! And yes – I DID notice the “almost”! LOL! 🙂

  10. Beautiful card Mary! Love the quilted flowers behind the sweet bird! Thank you so much for joining us this week at Stamp Ink Paper 🙂

  11. Mary, your card is so beautiful. I love the look of the tiled floral background and that bird is just so super sweet! Great design! Thanks so much for joining us at Stamp, Ink, Paper this week!

  12. Marcia K Designs

Love your interpretation of the sketch! The colors you used are so pretty and I love how you finished the inside as well as the envelope. Thanks for playing along at the Cas-ual Fridays Sketch Challenge.

  13. Aw, that is an adorable card! I love every bit of it, so thoughful and so sweet! I love how you’ve used the sketch and your color combo is definitely the one for me to try 😉
Thanks so much for playing along with us at CAS-ual Fridays!

  14. Angela R.

Love the soft colors you used! Great take on the sketch! Thanks for playing with us at CAS-ual Fridays!
