Stampin’ Up! Let It Snow Place

Mornin’, y’all – it’s Monday again.  The last Monday before Christmas.  With any luck, I’ll be headed to the post office soon and then we can get to the next large to-do list:  get ready for company arriving on Wednesday!  Whew…good thing the holidays only come around once a year!

So – Finn is back in the news.  And the headline reads:  “Finn-Chewie Hits Puberty”!  In other words, he’s a teenager.

I know this because he’s doing all the things teenagers do – testing the limits, deliberately provoking his parents, avoiding hugs, etc.  I call him and he heads the other way – never out of sight, just not responding.  We’ll be playing with the bumper and I throw it and he races to it…and right by it to go sniff something else.  And then gives me “the paw” when I call him.  Five minutes later – coming instantly when called, trotting right by the golf cart, just sweet as can be!

Like any parent of a teenager – I love him.  But…sometimes he’s a little hard to like right now.

And then – like any teenager – right before a parent just breaks down and kills him dead….he does something adorable.

The hanging out tongue does me in every time! 🙂  And you think he doesn’t know it?  Oh yes…he does! 🙂

This, too, shall pass and I’m betting we make it out the other side more mature and with lots of character.  Cuz…what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, yes??

My card for today is another Snow Place family portrait.  But this time that devious penguin didn’t make it into the picture!  Take a look-see:

My layout is a result of the My Favorite Things sketch this week.

And the color scheme is from the Just Us Girls Color Week challenge.

Finally, I played along with the theme challenge from TGIF Challenges:

tgifc86
I took the theme pretty literally! 🙂

I started with a Whisper White panel – and stamped the Let It Snow snowflakes all over it with Versamark Ink.  I sprinkled it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  Using a sponge wedge, I sponged the entire panel with Night of Navy and then came back with Rich Razzleberry across the top, then I SNAILd it to a Gold Foil mat.

I made the frames using a scalloped and a straight sided die from the Squares Layering Framelits. They fit together perfectly, so I was able to run them both thru at the same time – the straight edge die tucked inside the scallop edge die.  So I did that four times with Gold Foil and 4 times with Rich Razzleberry.  Then I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the frames together in a sort of catty-wampuss way.  I also used the same scalloped die to cut 4 Whisper White squares.

Each of the Snow Place snow people are stamped in Versamark and heat embossed in Gold.  The “dad” wears a Night of Navy hat, which I stamped on Whisper White and cut with the Snow Friends Framelits.  Mom has on some Rich Razzleberry ear muffs.  And the kids are wearing a Rich Razzleberry hair bow and a Night of Navy cap.  I cheated a little bit and used my Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write Marker to color their noses!  Once they were all embossed and accessorized, I adhered their frames to the portraits with Liquid Glue

I popped the portraits on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and gave each one a tiny Rhinestone Basic Jewel.

The sentiment, also from Snow Place, is stamped in Rich Razzleberry and Night of Navy.  This is a photopolymer stamp set, so all I had to do was eyeball inking the top of the words with the Rich Razzleberry and then the bottom with Night of Navy.  Easy peasy and I like the effect it gave it!  I snipped banner ends and used a Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ Write Marker to edge the top half and Night of Navy on the bottom, then adhered it to the frames with Liquid Glue.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I heat embossed more Snow Place snowflakes in Gold across the top of a Whisper White panel.  Then I sponged the top with Rich Razzleberry and the bottom with Night of Navy.

I SNAILd the panel to a Gold Foil mat and into my Night of Navy card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Gold heat embossed Snow Place snowflakes and some Night of Navy sponging across the front…

…and I did a similar treatment on the flap, using Rich Razzleberry.

Et Voila!  This is such a fun little stamp set and matching framelits  – I just love their little smiling faces!  Hope you like!

  1. How cute is this?! A snowman family card! I love how you used the non traditional Christmas color Challenge for your card!!!

  2. Oh my goodness, that is awesome!! Love your sponged background with the embossed snowflakes and your “family portrait” is too cute. Great design! Thank goodness the teenage years only last for a little while…and then they realize that mom & dad aren’t so dumb. Hope that you all survive! 😉

    • I’m hoping that it’s a few weeks in dog years! But I fear he’ll conclude we ARE dumb – at least in comparison to him. Thanks much, Amy! 🙂

  3. Oh, so clever and cute! This is great, Mary, and your sponging had me fooled until I read your directions. Wow, cool idea! Finn is really adorable, I love your take on his behavior!

  4. Mom

    Very nice card.
Mostly nice Finn, as are most adplescents. Most of the time. Also, once pup decides he is really yours for keeps, the limit testing starts. Even wee Clara tries. Now and then. 😃

  5. Ellie Peckler

Oh, Mary, I love everything about your card. Makes it hard to decide which is cuter: your snowmen or your “teenager.” Not, really; Finn is the cutest thing EVER! – Ellie

  6. Lisa Kind

Totally adorable! I love those snowpeople and the gold frames! Thanks for playing with Just Us Girls!

  7. Cute snowmen! Love all the different looks you gave them. And your pup is adorable too. Thanks for playing along with TGIF Challenges!
