Stampin’ Up! Thoughtful Thanks and Falling Flowers!

Happy Sunday, y’all!  I hope you’re whittling down your get-ready-for-Christmas list.  I managed to get thru a few things on Saturday, so I have half a shot at getting things to the mail tomorrow.

Every year, around Thanksgiving, an old and useful friend makes an appearance at our house.  This came to me as one of the first Christmas gifts my soon-to-be-husband gave me.  He didn’t actually go get it – he cut out a picture of it from the Service Merchandise catalog.  Remember Service Merchandise??  Anyway, he cut it out and stuck it in an envelope.  That was a hundred years ago.  He’s gotten a little more with the Christmas spirit these days.  Meaning…he panics around the 23rd and makes a heroic effort to make up for waiting so long! LOL.

But…we went to the Service Merchandise and got…

Yes.  The workhorse of the kitchen!  Not something I use every day or even every month.   But…when it’s needed, it’s there.  Dependable and sturdy and strong.

Kind of like my husband, I suppose you could say! 🙂

My card for today uses a fun Annual Catalog bundle: the Falling Flowers bundle, which is a part of the Irresistibly Floral Suite.  The bundle includes the Falling Flowers stamp set and the matching May Flowers Framelits die set.  To that, I pulled in the Thankful Thoughts stamp set for a couple of sentiments.  And, cuz I could, I used a little more of the gorgeous Falling in Love DSP from the 2017 Occasions catalog.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this card was inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

fms-267-sketch
I started out by simply SNAILing a piece of the pretty Falling In Love DSP to a Copper Foil mat for the card front.

The smaller art piece is a panel of Canson 90lb Cold Press Watercolor paper.  I inked up the flourish image from Falling Flowers in Versamark Ink, stamped the panel and sprinkled it with Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I also added a couple of the little flower images as well.  Then I heat embossed it all.

I did a quick watercolor wash over the embossed image, using my Aqua Painter filled with rubbing alcohol and the lid of my Blushing Bride ink pad.

For the mat for this panel, I cut the Copper Foil piece longer than the watercolor paper.  Then I embossed just the end that would be exposed in the new Falling Petals TIEF.  I SNAILd the watercolor panel to the embossed Copper Foil, and then SNAILd that to the card front.

My sentiment is from Thankful Thoughts, heat embossed in Copper on a piece of the watercolor paper.  I snipped a banner end and then lightly sponged the edges with some Sahara Sand ink.

The flower embellishment is from the Falling Flowers stamp set and the May Flowers Framelits.  I cut a few leaves from Pear Pizzazz card stock and the large flower from Blushing Bride.  The smaller flower, I stamped in Blushing Bride on watercolor paper and fussy cut it (so there wouldn’t be any white border).  Then I used my Aqua Painter again and filled it in with Blushing Bride.  You can see that I made one half of each petal darker than the other side.  I think it gives it some depth.

I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the leaves and the Blushing Bride flower to the card front.  Then I popped the sentiment on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Finally, I used Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals to add the final flower.  I gave it a So Saffron Enamel Shape for its center and that was it for the card front!

On the inside. I heat embossed a second sentiment from the Thankful Thoughts stamp set in Copper on a panel of Very Vanilla card stock.  Then I added a few images from the Falling Flowers set in Blushing Bride.

I SNAILd the panel to a Copper Foil mat and into my Blushing Bride card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done.

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got more Falling Flowers images in Blushing Bride on the front…

…and some more of the Falling In Love DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Between the Falling Flowers and May Flowers from the Annual Catalog (thanks, Amy!) and the new Falling in Love DSP…this card was quick and easy to put together.  And I’m already completely in love with the Falling Petals TIEF!  It’s just gorgeous.  Hope you like! 🙂

Sometimes those early gifts from our hubbies are the best–he was probably thinking of how many meals you could fix him and not its durability but it’s still a winner! 😉 I’d forgotten about Service Mechandise.

    • Thank you so much, Susan!! What a lovely thing to say! And – yes. He’s given me a few “wow” gifts over the years, but this one has certainly stood the test of time! 🙂
