Stampin’ Up! Thoughtful Banners Outdoor Adventure Cruise – and Blog Candy!

Good morning and happy World Card Making Day!  This is kind of “our” day, huh?  All over the world, crafters are crafting and makers are making.  And carding!  I hope you’ve got something fun planned – even if it’s just some time in your craft room making something pretty! 🙂

To help celebrate WCMD, I’m giving away some blog candy to help you make great cards!  Read on down to see how to enter!  You’ll also see some Stampin’ Up! celebrations starting today – plenty of details down below!

Today is also the start of the Stampin’ Up! year – 1 Oct 16 to 30 Sept 17.  In every year, demonstrators can earn an Incentive Trip.  The trip in 2017 is to Phuket, Thailand.  I’m too late to earn that one.  But!  The Incentive Trip in 2018 is a Cruise to Alaska!

I want to go on a Cruise.

I want to go to Alaska.

A cruise – to Alaska?  Yep.  Perfect!  So….my goal for 2017 is to earn that cruise!!  Everyone keep your fingers crossed that I can do the work and earn my way to a fun-filled Alaskan Cruise, okay?? 🙂

So – I made a card today that evokes that Alaskan Cruise.  I used some Outdoor Adventure die cuts, a touch of Swirly Scribbles, a bit of Serene Scenery DSP and a fun little sentiment from Thoughtful Banners.  Take a look-see:

See what that is?  It’s the view out my stateroom on the Alaskan cruise!!  How’s that for some goal visualization?!?

I wanted to make a cruise-themed card for this day, and when I saw the sketch challenge #97 at FabFriday, I immediately saw a cruise ship window!

fabfri97-sketch
I started by SNAILing a piece of Serene Scenery DSP to an Island Indigo mat.  The Alaskan scene is adhered directly to the card front, and the window popped over the top – and made into a shaker card!

I used some paper from the Warmth & Cheer DSP stack to cut mountains and trees using the Outdoor Adventure Framelits.  I also cut some Whisper White “snowy peaks” with the little tiny die in the set, and used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere them to the mountain tops.

thoughtful-banners-outdoor-adventure-2-stamps-n-lingers
I adhered the mountains first, then added the trees over the top – making sure to line up the bottoms of the die cuts, for the “shore”.

For the ocean, I cut the long swirly die cut from Swirly Scribbles in Island Indigo and adhered it to the card front.

For the ship window, I started with a piece of Crumb Cake card stock, and I cut a hole in it with a Circles Layering Framelit die.  Then I ran the piece thru the Big Shot in the Woodgrain TIEF.

For the frame of the window, I cut another piece of Serene Scenery DSP with two Circles Layering Framelit dies.  These dies are the ones on either side of the die I used to cut the hole in the panel.  In all, I used the three largest straight-sided dies.  The largest and third largest cut the frame, and the die in the middle cut the hole in the original panel.

Make sense?

I used Liquid Glue to adhere my frame around the hole in the Woodgrain embossed panel.  The “rivets” are the largest of the Pearl Basic Embellishments, colored with my Brown Sharpie.

I cut a square of Window Sheet and adhered it to the back of my window panel.  Then I ran a piece of Foam Adhesive Strip all around the opening, and all around the outer edge of the panel (instead of using Stampin’ Dimensionals).  Then I piled a little pile of sequins that I found buried in my stash in the middle of my Alaskan scene, and stuck the window panel over the top.

My sentiment – which could represent the day I find out I earned the cruise, but it’s also great for World Card Making Day! – is from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set, stamped in Island Indigo on Very Vanilla.  I punched it with the Classic Label punch and adhered it with Liquid Glue.  I colored some medium Pearl Basic Jewels with my Brown Sharpie and adhered them to the label.

On the inside, I cut the long Swirly Scribbles die from the bottom of a Very Vanilla panel and then adhered it all to an Island Indigo mat.  Over that, I added some trees cut with the Outdoor Adventure Framelit from another piece of Warmth & Cheer DSP.

I SNAILd the panel into my Old Olive card base, SNAILd the card front on as well, and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got a simple strip of Warmth & Cheer Designer Washi Tape across the front…

…and another piece of then Warmth & Cheer DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Wouldn’t this be a fun card to send to someone who’s headed off on a cruise vacation?!  I love how the ship’s window turned out and I think it really looks like the Alaskan shore!!  Hope you like! 🙂

Am loving the pine cone die set! Spent most of yesterday cutting cones and boughs out of every kind of paper from foils to glitter and good ol’ brown and green card. When ( I like to think positive) you win the cruise you will notice that your luggage is extra heavy; that will be me stowing away. My nephew lives near Wasilla and I would love to see him. Thanks for all of the effort you put into your blog!

    • That’s for sure my favorite, too, Carole! If I get to go, I’ll be checking for stow-aways! 😉 Thank you, Carole! 🙂
