Stampin’ Up! Swirly Birds and Butterflies for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop.  We’ve got a fun sketch to work from today, so settle back and check all our pretty projects, won’t you? 🙂

I decided to use some of the new Affectionately Yours DSP, the Swirly Bird bundle and a few elements that are returning to us from the previous catalog!  Take a look-see:

Swirly Birds and Butterflies 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
And here’s the sketch we had this week:

I got a little jiggy with it – but I didn’t stray too awfully far! 🙂

I started by layering two complementary pieces of the new Affectionately Yours DSP onto a Watermelon Wonder mat – securing them with SNAIL.  Then I wrapped a length of Gold 5/8″ Satin Ribbon around the seam between the two pieces, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

Swirly Birds and Butterflies 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
The center rectangular panel is a small piece of Crumb Cake card stock, that I embossed in the Fluttering TIEF and SNAILd to a Watermelon Wonder mat.  Then I just SNAILd it to the card front.

I cut two of the medium swirly-do’s with the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits – one from each of the DSP designs I used on the card front. Then I used little dots of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to attach them over the Fluttering-embossed center panel.

Swirly Birds and Butterflies 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I also stamped a few Swirly Bird little swirly-do’s in Watermelon Wonder on Whisper White card stock.  Two are stamped full-strength and one is stamped without re-inking.  I fussy cut them – took less time than it would have to use the matching die!  Then I curled them a bit by laying them on my squishy pad and gently pushing the end of a pen down into their middles.  I also stamped some small leaves in Cucumber Crush – some full strength and some without re-inking.  Then I fussy cut those as well.  I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere them to the Swirly Scribbles shapes.

Swirly Birds and Butterflies 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
The butterfly is from the Floral Wings set.  Now.  This set is retired.  But I am..losing my brain.  For some unknown reason I didn’t have it marked as retired, so there it was on my “active” shelf.  And – until this very moment when I tried to load it up in the product list – I still thought it was active.  Duh duh duh duh duh.  I am so sorry, y’all!! 🙁  If you have this set – use it (it’s actually on my retired product list – making it even odder that I used it….!)  If not, try Butterfly Basics, or even just cut the butterfly from more of the Affectionately Yours DSP – that would work just fine! 🙂

I stamped this three-step image in Watermelon Wonder.  The first stamp I stamped off once, the second and third stamps are full strength!  Then I added a Crumb Cake body and cut it out with the medium die in the Butterflies Thinlits set.

I popped him on with some Stampin’ Dimensional and then brushed him all over with Clear Wink of Stella.  Finally, I added a long row of Pearl Basic Jewels for his body.  I took a minute to add a pearl to my little swirly-do flowers, too….

The sentiment is from Thoughtful Banners.  I just stamped the words in Soft Suede ink on Watermelon Wonder card stock, fussy cut each word individually, and stuck them on with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  And the card front was done! 🙂

Swirly Birds and Butterflies 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
The inside is old-school – and it’s a classic finish for a reason!  I used a piece of the Affectionately Yours DSP from the front, matted it on Watermelon Wonder and then SNAILd it to a Crumb Cake panel.  I SNAILd the whole thing on a Watermelon Wonder mat and into my Crumb Cake card base.

Swirly Birds and Butterflies 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

I used a Medium Crumb Cake envelope and decorated the front with a few Watermelon Wonder Swirly Bird swirly-do’s and Cucumber Crush leaves…

Swirly Birds and Butterflies 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and made a custom envelope flap with more Affectionately Yours DSP.

Swirly Birds and Butterflies 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Volia!  Once again the Affectionately Yours DSP doesn’t disappoint.  Pairing bright and cheerful or quiet and elegant colors with Crumb Cake works really well – and makes this a truly versatile, must have Designer Paper!  I hope you’ll get you some soon!! 🙂

  1. Love how you used this DSP together with the gold ribbon and Crumb Cake. I was having a hard time figuring out how I wanted to use it before this beautiful card! Your swirly flowers are great accents for the card especially with the little curl you added for dimension! Your swirlys behind the butterfly really accent it, too! Super card! 🙂

  2. Very pretty Mary! I love the color scheme and the mix of DSP. I’d have never know that butterfly was from the retired stamp set….I thought that it was from the Watercolor Wings stamp set! 🙂

  3. Mom

Thoe little flowers look like wee ranunculi…sweet.

  4. Huh – I’ve been trying to figure out what flower they looked like. Thanks for telling us, Mom! 🙂

  5. sandimaciver2015

  6. Thanks so much, Sandi!! 🙂

  7. The gold ribbon adds the right regal touch. Love the flowers and the swirls!! Great job.

  8. Kristi Gray

Love the color combo and the way you cut your butterfly with DSP. Don’t you just love swirly bird?
