Stampin’ Up! Swirly Scribbles Thoughtful Banners Hello

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there in Blog-ville!  I hope you all have breakfast in bed (and don’t have to clean the kitchen), get the house cleaned (without having to lift a finger!), and receive flowers and adulation from all who know and love you!

I am fixin’ to hit the cards hard today – I planned that yesterday, and was partially successful.  But…some of the guys wanted to go to lunch….

…what’s a girl to do?  And yes – that’s the exact same meal I had at The Olde Pink House last weekend.  I was oh-so-tempted by…well, everything else on the menu!….but in the end, just couldn’t resist that chicken!!  Yuuuuuuuummmmmmm-oooooo!!

But, I did get one and a half cards made on Saturday – and this is one of them!  It’s using some of the many goodies I received this week in my pre-order.  It was really hard to pick just one thing to use – so I used a couple!  I pulled out the Swirly Bird stamp set and its bundled Thinlits – called Swirly Scribbles and added a sentiment from the Thoughtful Banners bundle as well.  Take a look-see:

Swirly Bird Hello 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Bright, huh!?  I’m loving these new 2016-2018 In Colors.  I wasn’t sure I was going to – and felt the same about the Playful Palette DSP, which you can see peeking out from behind the sentiment panel.  But, boy, was I wrong!  It’s growing on me like gangbusters!

I was playing along with the CAS(E) This Sketch Challenge #171 and that’s where the basics of the design came from.

CTS 171 sketch

So – you can see I got a little creative with my Washi Tape.  I used one of the fun designs in the Playful Palette Designer Washi Tape and just laid strips right across the front of my Whisper White card base.  The idea to do this came to me in a dream.  Well – sort of.  It came to me while I was waking up yesterday – that’s kind of like dreaming!

Swirly Bird Hello 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd a panel of the Playful Palette DSP stack to some Peekaboo Peach card stock to begin the center panel.  I made the Whisper White panel a little smaller than I usually would – I wanted to have a little more of the Playful Palette visible than my normal 1/8″ margin.  I added a bunch of Peekaboo Peach splatters in the bottom of the panel, using the splatters image from Timeless Textures, and SNAILd that to my layered mat.

Then I pulled out my brand new Swirly Scribbles Thinlits – which I got bundled with the Swirly Bird stamp set (and you’ll be able to get this one, too, on 1 June!).  I cut three of the smaller swirly-do’s – one each in Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo and a piece of Playful Palette DSP.  I sort of piled them on top of each other and stuck them together with little dots of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

Then I adhered it to the focal panel with more Liquid Glue.

The sentiment is from one of the bestest new stamp sets in the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog.  Thoughtful Banners is absolutely chock-a-block filled with sentiments.  Check it…

Add it to the Duet Banner Punch….

Duet Banner Punch

Right?!?  You know me – I’m a Punch-a-holic.  I was on this little pair like a Haflinger on a peppermint!

So – I stamped the little Hello sentiment from Thoughtful Banners in Basic Black Archival Ink on a scrap of Peekaboo Peach and punched it out with the Duet Punch.  Easy.  Peasy.  Done!

Swirly Bird Hello 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I popped it onto the panel with some Stampin’ Dimensionals and then popped the entire panel onto the card with more Dimensionals.

I added one little bit of bling with a single Rhinestone Basic Jewel.  I stamped a little tiny swirl from Swirly Bird and cut it out – but I’d done it in Sweet Sugarplum and then I added the Rhinestone.  It looked…uhm…well.  A little too much like a…yea.  So I just ditched that part and went with the straight jewel. 😉

Swirly Bird Hello 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the inside, I matted more of the Playful Palette DSP on Peekaboo Peach.  My Whisper White liner got some more Timeless Textures splatters in Peekaboo Peach.  I stamped the Swirly Bird image three times in Sweet Sugarplum, without re-inking.  Then I used the tiny little barb-y feather-y images in the stamp set to add tiny little barb-y feather-y things to the swirly-do’s.  That makes them look a whole lot like the die cuts on the front!

Swirly Bird Hello 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd the liner to my layered mat and thence into the Whisper White card base.  And the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a reprise of the Peekaboo Peach Timeless Textures splatters, and the Sweet Sugarplum stamped-three-times-without-re-inking Swirly Bird images….

Swirly Bird Hello 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

…and then I (say it with me!) cut a liner from more Playful Palette DSP, using my Envelope Liner Framelits.

Swirly Bird Hello 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Volia!  An oh-so-colorful, oh-so-graphic clean-and-layered card for any occasion.  This one is way way out of my normal comfort zone – but…I really love it.  I’m totally tickled with how it turned out – and I hope that y’all like it as well. 🙂

  1. Cute card Mary! Love those bright colors and that cool die cut! 🙂

  2. Mom

Very interesting contrast between the circles and the lines. The colors work too. Nice.

  3. 🙂

  4. Wasn’t sure about those swirls till I saw them on real cards-WOW! they look great! I love your take on the sketch, and those colors rock!

  5. I know – I had the same reaction when I saw them at OnStage – but now…they’re like the Timeless Textures or Gorgeous Grunge. The uses are many, I think! Thanks, Jari! 🙂

  6. This is so fun! Great take on the sketch!

  7. Thanks, Leigh! 🙂
