Stampin’ Up! Sweetbriar Rose Joins One Big Meaning!

Good morning, all!  Happy weekend to everyone – I hope that you have fun plans and good weather to do them!

A few days ago, I saw a card that Amy Koenders had done using the beautiful Sweetbriar Rose stamp.  And that reminded me that I’d wanted to add that to my stamp stash.  And so I did, right then, before I could forget again.  And at the same time, I added another long-time “want” – One Big Meaning.  They arrived on Thursday, so I built a card with them for you today.  Take a look-see:

Sweetbriar Rose Thanks 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The design is inspired – kind of loosely! – by the Pals Paper Arts Sketch #273.  Head over and see what others have done with it – and maybe play along yourself!

PPA 273 Sketch

Just right off the bat, I turned it catty-wampus and made it vertical instead of horizontal!  I first taped off the words “Sweetbriar Rose” on the stamp , inked the rest of it in Versamark and stamped the image on a piece of watercolor paper.

Now, here’s a note.  There’s a bit of a supplier issue with the Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Paper, so I’m no longer recommending that you guys buy it.  Instead, head over to Michaels (get your 40% off coupon!) and buy you a pack of Canson brand, 90 pound weight cold press Watercolor Paper.  It is marvelous!   Just the right weight and it takes color beautifully!   That’s what I used on this card.

After inking and stamping with the Versamark, I heat embossed the image with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Then I got busy with my Blender Pens.  I used Soft Sky for the flowers – colored them in completely with that – and then Pool Party to make some shadows and add depth to them.  The leaves started with Pear Pizzazz and used Wild Wasabi as the shadows.  And finally, I added Daffodil Delight to the stamens!  I used my Stamping Sponge – cut in a wedge – to sponge the edges with some Soft Sky ink.

I stamped the image from One Big Meaning in Early Espresso in the bottom corner – and set my artwork aside to get the rest of the card ready to go.

The card front is another piece of the Canson watercolor paper, on which I stamped the Sweetbriar Rose image with Versamark.  No embossing, just the Versamark.  You just might be able to see it on the picture above.  If not, you’re just going to have to take my word for it! 😉  I also sponged the edges of that piece with a little more Soft Sky ink.

For the vertical element behind the Sweetbriar Rose image, I just used a piece of Kraft Corrugated Paper that I SNAILd to the watercolor paper card front.  I cut the excess from the top and bottom after SNAILing it on – that’s just easier, and much more likely to get you a clean edge.  I cut the largest of the Lots of Labels Framelits label from some Soft Sky card stock.  I cut it in half and then SNAILd each half to the Corrugated paper.  I added some tiny dots – like stitches, sort of, with my Pool Party Stampin’ Write Marker.  Finally, I popped the rose artwork onto the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  And that was it for the front of the card!

For the inside, I repeated the heat embossed image of the Sweetbriar Rose, on a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock.  I colored it exactly as I’d done on the front, and then SNAILd it to a piece of Soft Sky Card Stock.  Once I knew I wasn’t going to screw up the inside – I popped my card front onto the Early Espresso card base with some Stampin’ Dimensionals. 🙂

The envelope is a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, just stamped one more time with the Rose, this time in Soft Sky.  No liner.  Gasp! 😉

Et Voila!  My first card using Sweetbriar Rose and One Big Meaning (if you haven’t looked at this stamp set, do check it out – it’s just chock full of wonderful Thank You sentiments!).  I can tell you it won’t be my last project with them!

Hope you enjoyed this card share as much as I enjoyed making it and coloring that gorgeous rose.

TTFN – see you on Sunday!

Mary
