Good Friday morning, y’all! Wanted to thank all of you who stopped by our Blog Hop yesterday – I surely hope that you had fun and saw some cool projects and got some ideas to use for your future craftiness! 🙂
I had so much fun doing a non-traditional-color Christmas card yesterday that I decided to do it again. This card uses the lovely All Ye Faithful stamp set, a couple of TIEFs – Boughs & Berries and Elegant Dots, and….well, that’s really about it! Take a look-see:
The design was inspired by Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #288. Be sure to check them out and see what other crafters came up with for this design, okay?
I love the All Ye Faithful stamps – particularly the Holy Family stamp. So, I decided to use it and only it. And, I decided to do a card with no sentiment on the front. I really just wanted the image to be the focal point and let it and the DSP and embossed designs do the work. I selected Rose Red as the accent color on an otherwise neutral, monochromatic palette. The rose is closely associated with the Virgin Mary, so I thought it was pretty appropriate. This is a super simple card to make, so…here we go!
I started by building my card elements. I ran a piece of Basic Black card stock thru the Big Shot in the Boughs & Berries TIEF. I offset the paper in the embossing folder so that I had a full border of the image on the left side of the paper (as you look at it above!) – where it would not be covered by the other elements. Then I SNAILd it to a mat of Rose Red card stock. The banner is a piece of the wondrous sheet music paper from the Home for Christmas DSP, on a mat of Rose Red.
The square is Basic Black, embossed in the Elegant Dots TEIF and matted on….yep, Rose Red. With these pieces done, I partially built the card front. At this point, I realized that I’d cut my Home For Christmas banner too short to make the design turn out how I wanted it. So, I cut it in half and SNAIld the two pieces to the embossed card front – with the separation between them that gave me the banner length that I needed. Thanks to Amy Koenders for THAT idea! 🙂 Then I SNAILd the square over the banner – and I was ready to move to the focal art.
I stamped the All Ye Faithful image on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock in Basic Black Archival Ink. I only colored two pieces of the image – Mary’s head piece in Rose Red – with my Stampin’ Write Marker. And the halo around the Baby with a non-SU! gold gel pen. Then I punched the image out with my 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. The mat was cut with the 2 3/4″ die in the Circles Collection. I SNAILd the image circle to the mat and then fussy cut the mat down so it would be a smaller frame for the artwork. I added the image circles to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Finally, I added the card front to my Very Vanilla card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals – and the front was done!
On the inside, I stamped a sentiment from All Ye Faithful in Basic Black Archival Ink on a piece of Very Vanilla. Across the bottom is a strip of Basic Black on a mat of Rose Red. Before I adhered them together with SNAIL, I ran the black strip thru the Big Shot in the Boughs & Berries TIEF – making sure I had the entire width of the strip embossed.
I added the strip to the bottom of the stamped Very Vanilla and then layered the whole thing on a Rose Red mat and adhered it to the inside of the card.
I finished the set off by taking a short piece of Rose Red, embossing it in the Elegant Dots TIEF, and then cutting it with the Medium Envelope Envelope Liner (that’s the largest one in the set). I added that to a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. Don’t be afraid to use a less-than-full-size liner for your envelopes, okay? I didn’t want to cut into a full piece of Rose Red card stock to make the liner – so I just lined the top flap! And it looks just great!
Et Voila! Black. Rose Red. Just naturally makes you think of Christmas, right? 🙂 Well, I actually kind of love how it turned out!! Hope you do as well!
I’ll be at the World Card Making Day Atlanta 2015 tomorrow with a few of the other ladies in the area and about a bazillion other folks from all over who are flying and driving to the A-T-L to gather and stamp and card-make! It should be fun! I’ll have a card in your inbox before I go though, so….I’ll see you then! 🙂
TTFN….
