Stampin’ Up! Awesomely Artistic Butterfly and….Blog Candy!

Well, I promised some blog candy to celebrate the 100th post on Stamps-N-Lingers, and this is Day One!  Not sure yet how many days there will be, but it’s definitely more than One.  Less that Ten! 🙂  Read down to see what the offering is and how you can get in on the fun!

Have any of you seen Birdman?  With Michael Keaton?  I think it won a few Oscars.  We’re watching it while I type this blog post.  We’re like 45 minutes in and neither one of us have a clue.  It’s pretty weird….and we have yet to find a point to it.  Oh wait – now he’s moving stuff with his mind, apparently.  What??  I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be real, or if he’s whack-a-do, or….?  And, for some reason, the soundtrack is some danged drums just drumming and drumming and drumming.  All the time – even when the dialogue is going.  So far I’m pretty darned glad we didn’t spend any money to see it in the theater!

Can you tell it’s been a pretty boring day?  Laundry and groceries.  House cleaning I SHOULD have done, but didn’t.  But, in the midst of the incredible excitement, I made a card to share with you!  Take a look-see:

It was inspired by the Sunday Stamps Challenge #106:

Awesomely Artistic Window SSC 106 Sketch

And – in late breaking news, it also fit perfectly into the new Can You Case It #80 challenge!  So – that’s TWO blogs that you can hit to get inspiration for your cards!! 🙂

CYCI #80

I’d seen a technique on Pinterest that I decided to try out.  So, I started by making a mask.  I used the third-from-the-center square in the Squares Collection Framelits Dies and cut out 4 squares from a scrap of card stock.  The hardest part was figuring out the spacing – and I’ll tell you that the SU! Grid Paper helped a LOT!  Here’s what the mask looks like – you can see I took the picture AFTER I made the card! 🙂

Window Mask watermarked

Once I had the mask made, I used sticky notes to hold it and the Very Vanilla card front down on my grid paper.  I was pretty generous with the sticky notes – they were not only holding the papers down, they were protecting the rest of the card front from my often-overly-enthusiastic-and-not-very-careful sponging.  I’m not saying I actually had to do this step about 3 times before I learned my lesson and had everything masked off right.  But….yea…..

I sponged the squares with Mint Macaron – first just lightly and smoothly, and then in a more splotchy manner – to lend some depth to the squares.

Before I removed the mask, I stamped a couple of dragonflies from the Awesomely Artistic set in Soft Suede.  Then I removed the mask and stamped the other two, letting them “escape” their square windows.  The dragonfly in the bottom right corner is stamped directly.  The other three were stamped off once on scrap paper before being stamped on the art piece.    To finish that portion off, I stamped the splatter stamp many times in Soft Suede (stamped off once) around the windows – used a lot of little sticky notes to keep the splotches outside the squares.  You’ll see that the splotches extend down the card only as far as the bottom of the squares.

The sentiment is from the Watercolor Wishes set – stamped in Mint Macaron.  I did some very light sponging around the edges of the card front with Soft Suede.  The mat is a piece from the 2015-2017 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack.  Since the words on that paper are white (and I was working in Cream/Vanilla tones), I sponged the edges with Soft Suede to make them more vanilla-ish.  Then I SNAILd the card front to the mat.

I tied a square know with a length of the Mint Macaron Dotted Lace Trim, and then secured the ends around the back of the card front using regular ole tape.  The Mint Macaron 2015-2017 In Color Blossom Accent is snuggled into the knot, adhered with glue dots.  Then I popped it onto my Soft Suede card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The butterfly is kind of fun  – made with a technique my friend Amy Koenders taught us.  First, I cut the medium size butterfly from the Butterflies Thinlits Dies out of a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  Then I colored it with my Stampin’ Spritzer and my Mint Macaron Classic Stampin’ Refill.  I filled my Spritzer about half way with Rubbing Alcohol and then put about 6-7 drops of the Mint Macaron in and shook it up.  Then I laid the die cut butterfly on a few paper towels, and spritzed it all over.  I actually did a couple of layers of spray to get it as dark as I wanted it.

When it had dried completely, I lightly sponged the outer edges of the butterfly with some Soft Suede, just to help it meld a little more with the rest of the card.  Then I stuck him in place with glue dots.  The glimmer paper is plenty of bling – no Rhinestones or Pearls needed on this dude!

I am really liking this technique – I know I’ll use it again soon!

On the inside, I used more Very Vanilla card stock and stamped the Awesomely Artistic splotches all around the edges in Mint Macaron and then one stamped-off-once-on-scrap-paper Soft Suede dragonfly.

The sentiment is from the And Many More set – in Mint Macaron.

….et voila!  The card was done.  I blinged-up a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope with some more splotches and dragonflies to round out this pretty birthday ensemble.

P.S.  Credits are rolling on Birdman.  The drummer is going crazy.  And I think I have the answer.  He was whack-a-do.  However, I’m left wondering if he lived.  Or died jumping out a window.  Or flew.  Or…..?  I got nuthin’!
