Wetlands Anniversary Card from….Atlanta!!

Well, I’m home!  It’s good to be back in the land of green – would be even better if the green didn’t come with wicked high humidity, but…it does, so….  it’s all good.  It was a bittersweet return – if y’all will indulge me for just a moment.  Last week, we had to – quite suddenly – put our sweet dog Buck to sleep.  He was sick on Monday night, went to the vet Tuesday, and was gone on Wednesday evening.  He had liver failure – and we don’t know why.  Maybe never will.  We just know he’s not with us any more.  We’d had him for 11 years – and he pretty much went everywhere with us.  He will be hugely missed…..

Okay – clearing throat and wiping eyes…..staying busy to keep from looking around for him…..

On to the awesome cool tunnel card that I showed you last week.  I was looking for a card to make for my husband for our wedding anniversary (25 years – holy smokes!) – and this technique, the Timeless Love and Wetlands stamp sets and the Hardwood background stamp just seemed to fit the bill.  Take a look-see:

You’ll see the inside in just a second, promise!  I started by cutting a full sheet of Very Vanilla card stock in half long-ways, to make two pieces that were 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.  I set one of them aside to be the card base itself (don’t score and fold this one yet!).  The other, I laid flat and stamped in Soft Suede, using the Hardwood Stamp.  It took two full stamps to cover the entire sheet.  Then, I softened and aged it a bit by sponging around the edges with more Soft Suede.  I also rubbed around on the inside as well, but did it without adding any ink to the dauber – I just wanted to take the edge off a little, not really “color” it!

Then, I scored the stamped sheet three times to create the fold lines.  Go over to my Tutorial page to see detailed instructions for making a Tunnel Card!

Okay – next, I worked on the sentiment that you can see peeking thru the window.  I took the other piece of card stock and laid my window piece over the top of it.  That let me get my sentiment lined up like I wanted it.  I used the sentiment from the new set Timeless Love in Mossy Meadow.  I stamped the birds from Wetlands in Soft Suede, and then made a sticky-note mask.  I did that by stamping the birds again on the sticky note – being sure that the stamp was on the sticky part.  Did that make sense?  Then I very roughly cut the birds out and stuck my mask over the stamped birds on my card stock.  I colored up the Wetlands grasses stamp using my Mossy Meadow and Hello Honey Stampin’ Write Markers and stamped right over the masked birds.  Then I used my Marina Mist marker to lightly color the water reflections under the birds and the sentiment was done!

I scored and folded the sentiment/card base and then attached the window sheet to it, using Liquid Multi-Purpose Glue.  Put the glue only on the two ends of the cut piece – so, NOT on the center section where the oval window is cut.  The Tutorial page has a picture that really shows you where to glue and where NOT to glue!  Then I set that all aside to dry and worked on the card front.

I stamped the goose in Soft Suede onto a square of Very Vanilla that I’d rounded the corners on using the outside punch on my Envelope Punch Board.  I colored him in with my markers – Basic Black, Basic Gray, Baked Brown Sugar and Blackberry Bliss (in his neck – to add a little depth to the black) and Mossy Meadow for the grass.  The sentiment is on another corner-rounded rectangle of Very Vanilla, stamped in Mossy Meadow, and comes from the Timeless Love set.  Both these pieces are on their own Mossy Meadow mats – adhered with SNAIL.

I looped some Linen Thread under the Goose Mat and then attached said Goose with Dimensionals to the sentiment mat.  The card front itself is another piece of Very Vanilla, stamped with the Hardwood stamp in Soft Suede.  Like all the pieces on the front – I also sponged the edges of the front with Soft Suede.  I SNAILd the Hardwood-stamped piece to a Mossy Meadow mat and then SNAILd that to the card front.  The layered sentiment mat is also SNAILd on.  And that completed the card!

Or did it?!?  I decided to play around on the inside some more.  I stamped and colored another goose on a scrap of Very Vanilla.  He’s colored exactly the same way as the dude on the front.  Then I cut him out with my snips – not real precisely – and edged the piece with my Soft Suede marker.  I fiddled around with the placement of some Dimensionals on the back of him, and then stuck him inside the card.  You do have to be sure your shape doesn’t impinge on the folds….  But it’s a great finishing touch to the card!  And THAT made the card complete:

I quick-like-a-bunny stamped a Crumb Cake Medium Envelope with more grass and birds – Soft Suede on the birds, and Hello Honey and Mossy Meadow for the grass.  That gave me a completely pulled together card – and I can’t wait to give it to him!   This is such a cool and easy technique.  And this particular card could easily be used for a guy’s birthday – just change the inside sentiment!  I hope you like it as much as I do!  And don’t forget to head over to the Tutorial page to see the detailed instructions for putting your OWN tunnel card together!
