Stampin’ Up! Sparkly Ornate Garden with a Video Tutorial for The Paper Players!

Hey y’all – it’s Sunday, which means I’ve got another fun challenge for you from the Paper Players – it’s a challenge from the talented Anne Marie this week and it’ll for sure jump-start your creative mojo!  I hope you’ll come and play along.  🙂

If you were able to join us yesterday for our Ornate Garden FB Event and watched my video live, I appreciate you spending some of your weekend with us – and hope you had a good time!  If you didn’t see the live version, but you’d like to see the replay on YouTube…here ’tis!

Now – y’all know that clean-and-simple isn’t really my thing.  Also – when I looked at the challenge badge – I might have missed the “clean-and-simple” words.  Oops? 😉  So my Ornate Garden DSP is a little busier than might be considered truly clean and simple. But – the fun fold is fun – and easy!  And the Ornate Layers die cuts and Ornate Thanks sentiments work great.  Take a look-see:

And here’s this week’s Paper Players CAS challenge!  Hope you’ll join the fun and show us your projects!  I can’t wait to see what you create!  🙂

This fun fold is one I shamelessly CASE’d from my friend Karen Ksenzakovic – check her card out here!

There are essentially two cards here.  The larger card base is 5 1/2″ x 10″ – scored and folded at 4 1/4″ and 8 1/2″.  The smaller card is 3″ x 7″ – scored and folded at 3 1/2″.

I started with a piece of Gold Glimmer paper and cut the Ornate Layers die cut frame from it.  Next, I used a Stitched Rectangle Die to cut a piece from the center of my Ornate Garden DSP – handily, the dies in the Stitched Rectangles work VERY nicely with the Ornate Layers dies!

I adhered the DSP panel (the one with the rectangle cut out) to a Crushed Curry mat and then to the front of the larger card.

I adhered the Gold Glimmer Ornate Layers die cut over the “hole”.  Finally, I added the Stitched Rectangle that I’d cut from the DSP.

I matted an Old Olive strip of the DSP to a Crushed Curry mat and then to the shorter panel of the larger card.

I folded the small card and, using Liquid Glue on about an 1″ of the back of the small card (near the folded edge) I adhered it to the smaller panel of the main card.

I matted two small pieces of Whisper White on Crushed Curry.  Using the flourish corner image in the Ornate Style set, I stamped the four corners of each panel in Old Olive.

On the front panel, I stamped the Ornate Thanks sentiment in Terracotta Tile.  Then I masked the sentiment and added the sweet little daisy over top in Old Olive.  I lightly colored the daisy with my Light So Saffron Stampin’ Blend.

The inside panel got a second sentiment in Terracotta Tile – then I adhered it inside the smaller card with Liquid Glue.

I wrapped a length of Old Olive ribbon from the Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack around BOTH cards – then popped the little card front onto the little card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The card front sort of “captures” the ribbon….

For the inside of the larger card – I added the corner flourishes again in Old Olive on a Whsiper White panel.  Then I added a larger Ornate Thanks sentiment in Terracotta Tile and two smaller sentiments in Crushed Curry.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Crushed Curry mat and into the inside of the larger card.

I tied the ribbon in a bow – added a Gilded Gem to the front of the smaller card – and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Old Olive corner flourishes on the front…

…and more of the Ornate Garden DSP on the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  This is a really easy fun fold – it’s harder to describe than it is to do, I promise! 🙂  I am loving this new Ornate Garden Suite – especially the Ornate Thanks stamp set with it’s multitude of wonderful sentiment phrase combinations!!  And the gorgeous paper…don’t miss the beautiful foiled designs!  I hope you like and will be adding this entire Suite to your stash!

  1. I’m so glad you did a video for this card. I had wanted to CASE Karen’s card but it’s so much easier when I am shown how even though she had great written directions. Yesterday was so much fun with my five wonderfully talented teammates. Finny is sooooooo dang handsome…those feet…swoon!

    • stampsnlingers

Videos can make it so much easier to see how to get to the end result! I’m glad Karen’t directions were as clear as they were so I could make it in the first place! Thanks much, Karen! 🙂

  2. Such a fun card! Great design…even if its not clean and simple. 😉 Sweet picture of Finn too! He’s taking his door sill holding job pretty seriously. 🙂

  3. Susan K

Set my alarm and made it to all the live demos yesterday. Wow, what great fun And great cards. Absolutely love this glitzy super fun fold. Yes, it’s harder to explain than than the demo shows. TFS!
Love the clean and simple pic of Finn. It’s so sweet! 🐶

    • stampsnlingers

Some things just NEED a video! Thanks very much, Susan! Glad you were able to watch yesterday!

  4. Good shot of Handsome Finn!
Had fun yesterday, well, as much fun as one can have at a virtual party. Very enjoyable. Pretty card too.

    • stampsnlingers

Virtual fun! Whoo-hooo! Thanks so much, Julie! 🙂

  5. Stef Perry

Mary, your card is a beauty! Fun folds seem scary but a video like yours really takes the mystery out of it. And, just remember CAS is an objective concept, what is CAS to one may not be to another. 😊 Love this!

    • stampsnlingers

There you go! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it – thanks for the alibi and the kind words, Stef! 🙂

  6. Wow Mary! Love everything about your card..its beautiful!

  7. Lol, Mary about your comment on my blog about dogs having opposable thumbs. I know what you mean – it’s bad enough that they decide what’s a good idea or not based on their canine view of things!

I love your card with those gorgeous hot earthy colours. Clean and simple it isn’t but it’s beautiful! Vicky x

    • stampsnlingers

I know – think what they could get into if they DID have thumbs!! YIKES!! Thanks very much, Vicky!! 🙂

  8. Joanne James

Love your card and the fun fold element Mary, even if it’s not as Clean and Simple as you might have liked! CAS is work in progress for lots of people lol!

    • stampsnlingers

Some days I can do it – some days just…no! Thanks much, Joanne! 🙂

  9. Mary, this is awesome! I love fun fold cards. Your videos are so awesome and helpful! CAS is so difficult for me. I love layers and bling. LOL! Your card is lovely either way! Have a great weekend!

    • stampsnlingers

Oh – thank you, Claire – that’s very kind! 🙂

  10. Ann Wilcox Schach

A beautiful card, Mary! What a great way to showcase this lovely designer paper. I love this fold! I may have to give it a try!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Ann! Appreciate you taking time to come by! 🙂

  11. Anne Marie Hile

Mary, I had to laugh because I am usually the one who never remembers it’s CAS week at the PP’s. My new thing it to randomly think a week is CAS when it isn’t . So, basically I feel you on that CAS thing. LOL! Your card is gorgeous and I love the fun fold!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Anne Marie. I can nug out a CAS when I have to but…it’s for sure not my wheelhouse!! 🙂
