Stampin’ Up! Big Wishes and Buffalo Happy Birthday

Happy New Week and new Month, y’all!  Can you even believe it’s October?!?  Yikes – Christmas is right around the corner!

This week is World Card Making Day – on the 6th, to be exact!  And Stampin’ Up! is celebrating all week with great savings on lots of essentials (can you say…Stampin’ Dimensionals? 😉  Scroll on down for a complete listing of what all is available!

If you were able to join me last night for my Facebook Live video – I thank you very much for spending part of your weekend with me.  And hope that you had a good time making plaid!  If you weren’t able to watch live, but would like to see some of the Plaid-A-Pa-Looza – here’s the not-quite-instant replay!

The card I’m sharing is the one that I gave y’all a glimpse of last night – it uses one of the plaids (and you can see how to make it on the video) and the Happy Birthday Thinlit die and Big Wishes stamp set to make a cool masculine birthday card.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches – I just turned it on it’s head!

I made the plaid for the center strips with a piece of Gray Granite card stock and the Buffalo Check stamp set.  I inked the stamp with Cherry Cobbler and used my Stamparatus to make sure I got the image depth I wanted.  Then I made the cross lines with a ruler and my Dark Basic Black and Shaded Spruce Stampin’ Blends.  You can see how to do it in the video! 🙂

The card front is a piece of Early Espresso card stock that I embossed in the Simple Stripes TIEF.  I ran it thru once and then a second time, turning the card stock 90 degrees for the second pass.  That created a subtle checked (or plaid) embossed design!  Then I matted the panel on Gray Granite with Liquid Glue.

I wrapped a piece of new Merry Merlot & Copper 5/8″ Reversible Ribbon around the card front, securing it in the back with a couple of Glue Dots.  Then I matted the three strips of plaid-i-fied Gray Granite card stock on Gray Granite card stock and popped them over the whole thing with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I cut two of the Happy Birthday Thinlit die sentiments from Gray Granite card stock and stacked them up using Liquid Glue.  Then I adhered them to the card front – again with Liquid Glue!

To finish the card front, I tied a bow from the Merry Merlot & Copper 5/8″ Reversible Ribbon and adhered it at the top with a Glue Dot.

On the inside, I stamped the sentiment from the Big Wishes stamp set in Merry Merlot on a Whisper White panel.  Then I used my Balloon Bouquet Punch to cut a balloon from some more plaid-i-fied Gray Granite card stock and adhered it with some Liquid Glue.  I hand-drew a bow and string with my Journaling Pen.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Gray Granite mat and into my Merry Merlot card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another plaid balloon on the front…

…and I used the envelope liner die from the Beautiful Layers Thinlits to cut an envelope liner from the plaid Gray Granite card stock.

Et Voila!  Once again, the Buffalo Check stamp has been transformed into a wonderful plaid background!  This one is perfect for a masculine card when paired with the simple Happy Birthday Thinlit die!  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

I discovered the other day – in the Brisket-Shark incident – that MY Brisket-Shark isn’t a huge fan of RAW brisket.  He politely mouthed the little piece I handed him and then dropped it.

He did that twice.

Hmmm.

He was much MUCH less reticent about the tiny tidbit of SMOKED TO PERFECTION brisket.

Smart dog.

On the other hand, he does have some…odd…preferences for snacking…

Case in point….

That’s Cerah’s grazing muzzle he’s licking the black off of.

It’s spent the day at the end of Cerah’s schnoozle, being rooted thru the grass – and mud – and…I sorta shudder to think what else.  Apparently it’s a tasty mix of…what else.

What?  It’s good!  Wanna lick?? 😉

  1. Ha! That li’l Man is just so darn cute but I’m not sure I’d want him licking me after that tasty treat…lol. I fell in love with your card the minute I saw it last night. Once the dust settles from today’s medical activities, I intend to sit right down and write myself a plaid! Thanks for sharing your ideas and talents with your fans and team members.

    • stampsnlingers

Right?!? And that’s EXACTLY when they want to kiss all over you! LOL! Thanks so much, Karen. Happy Plaid-ing! 🙂

  2. I love that card Mary! The colors are perfect and so is your design! 🙂 As for Finn…I threw up just a little in my mouth. Ewwwww!! Why dogs fine the “mix of what else” so tasty, I’ll never know!

    • stampsnlingers

Me, neither. Tis a mystery to humans! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  3. Kate

    Nice plaid.
    The ‘what else’? Pass.

  4. No internet at the current RV park. Phone service comes and goes. Of course, it dropped just as you started last night. Love this card! I brought the buffalo check stamp and I’ll have to see what I can use for words. Thanks so much for sharing your gifts with us.

    • stampsnlingers

Ruh-roh! No internet is no bueno! 😉 Appreciate you watching when you could, Sharon – have fun with your stamp set! 🙂

  5. Jen Brum

Great card! I love that plaid and that bow is just beautiful! Love how you turned the sketch on it’s head! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you, Jen – I appreciate you stoping to leaving a comment! 🙂

  6. That fits just perfectly sideways!! I love the plaid and I LOVE what you did on the inside! Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Kim – I loved that plaid balloon!! Appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  7. Oh. My. Mary!! You know how I love plaid, and now I can make all the plaid I want! Whooppee!
I know about where dogs put their tongues, but they still want to put it on your face…..and we let them. I remember from when I was a kid that if you had a wound, letting a dog lick it would make it heal faster. Truth? Old Wives Tale? My cuts and scrapes always healed well after being licked.
    Great video and lovely card.

    • stampsnlingers

I always heard that, too! But…those were the days when we also stood up on the front seat of the car while riding down the road, so…times change, huh? 🙂 Have fun making plaid, Julie! 🙂

  8. Kathy Beaver

Once again you have become a dastardly enabler. Now, I have to have that Buffalo Plaid stamp after telling myself that I’ve been hoarding plaid DSP for years and have no need to make my own! Also, I will now have to refer to my Stamparatus as a Stampamapotomus. Perfect! I love how you made the stripes, but have a suggestion. You actually said to mark and wait for it to dry a bit on the galvanized CS before sliding ruler to next spot. I cringed every time you slid the ruler to the right over just drawn lines, even on plain CS. When using that very nice see-thru ruler, the best place to start your lines is on the right. Draw your line on the right edge and slide ruler left for next line. No chance to smear any of your lines. A quilting trick for slicing strips of fabric.

    • stampsnlingers

And that is a most excellent suggestion, Kathy! Thanks very much – I will attempt to train my brain to go back-ards! Cuz yea – smearing the lines is very annoying! I think you DO need the Buffalo Check. I mean – who DOESN’T?!? Thanks, Kathy! 🙂

  9. IlaRae Miller

I loved watching how you made all of your samples of plaid! I was wondering what kind of ruler you used – does it have a brand name on it? thanks!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks IlaRae! Glad you enjoyed it! That’s a “Design Ruler by Tim Holtz Idea-ology, 12 Inch, Plastic and Metal, Clear, TH92481” You can get them on Amazon! 🙂
