Stampin’ Up! March Paper Pumpkin Sneak Peek and an Alternative!

Happy Friday, y’all!  Another weekend looms and hopefully it will be a nice one!  We’ve had a bit of a cold snap here – ever hear of “Dogwood Winter”??  Yea.  Neither had I, but it appears to be a “thing” here in Georgia.  The Dogwoods bloom and we have another little bout of “winter”.  Hence…Dogwood Winter.

Who knew??

So – I got my March Paper Pumpkin the other day and pulled all the pieces and parts out.

It’s pretty gorgeous, y’all!

Instead of making the kit per the directions, I decided to make an alternative card with some of those wonderful elements – including the “special gift”!  And I added in a little embossing with the Petal Pair TIEF (free now during SAB with a $50 purchase!).  Take a look-see:

Now – if you want to see the May Good Things Grow kit as it was “planned” – here’s a quick video!  If you want to remain surprised when you open yours, scroll right on by! 🙂

To help me with the layout, I played along with this week’s Global Design Project challenge.

I began by embossing the front of an Early Espresso card base in the flowery Petal Pair TIEF – I ran it thru twice to cover the entire front.  Next, I matted two of the pretty panels from the PP kit on Powder Pink.  On the pink panel, I stamped the little corner image from the included May Good Things Grow stamp set in Early Espresso.  Then I Fast Fuse’d that panel to the card front.

I used a couple of Glue Dots to adhere a length of Fresh Fig 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon to the Crumb Cake panel.  I wrapped some Linen Thread around it a couple of times, securing it in the back with Fast Fuse.  Then I popped it over the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I used some of the pretty leaves and flowers die cuts from the kit and adhered them with Liquid Glue.  The wooden elements are part of the special gift included in this 5th Anniversary Edition kit.  They’re plain wood on one side and white on the other!

I adhered a couple of flowers – wood side up – and a couple of leaves – white side up – with Liquid Glue.

I decided to use the little wooden banner/label for my May Good Things Grow sentiment and I stamped it in Early Espresso.  I really love this sentiment, don’t you?!?  Then, I tied a little Linen Thread bow around the end.

Before sticking the sentiment on, I wound some loops of Linen Thread and adhered them to the card front with a Glue Dot.  Then I added the sentiment with Liquid Glue and a Stampin’ Dimensional.

A few Pearl Basic Jewels were all that was needed to finish the card front!

On the inside, I embossed the bottom of a Whisper White panel in the Petal Pair TIEF and adhered it to a Powder Pink mat.  Then I wrapped more of the Fresh Fig 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon around the panel, securing it with Fast Fuse.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel into the Early Espresso card base and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a few flowers from the May Good Things Grow stamp set in Powder Pink and Early Espresso on the front.  I stamped the Powder Pink flower first, made a quick sticky note mask to cover it, and added the two Early Espresso flowers…

…and I embossed the envelope flap in the Petal Pair TIEF.

Et Voila!  I’ll for sure be making the note cards that are part of the kit – the matching envelopes are way too pretty not to be used!  But – I think it’s fun to think outside the…box…and get creative with the elements in the kit, don’t you?  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

On Thursday, I took Finn to his orientation/assessment visit at Doggie Day Camp.

As an only, home-schooled, child, I decided he needed some constructive field trips with others of his kind.  Where he can learn to play well with others and appreciate diversity.  And to not run with scissors.

I dropped him off in the morning – he only fussed a little at being led away.  During my quick tour, I peeked out the window to see he was out in the one of the yards with several other children-of-the-furry variety.  I was already a distant memory!

Upon my return – I was presented with a lovely Swag Bag – very similar to what the stars get at the Oscars, I’m quite sure.

It had a couple of small bags of gor-met dog food, some little treats and a beef sausage (which Finn has already eaten, OBTW – and it was so good he actually dove in the trash and stole the wrapper!).

Also in the bag was his Report Card.

As you might imagine – he was pretty much the teacher’s pet.  Straight A’s.  They kinda like him!

I’m sure he’ll be routinely selected to clean the chalkboard…

Hopefully he won’t be bullied by the less-gifted members of his play group!

  1. What a beautiful card Mary! The Paper Pumpkin Kit is pretty amazing this month! So glad that Finn did well on his first outing with the play group. I can’t imagine Finn diving in the trashcan and stealing the wrapper for the treats…ha! That made me laugh right out loud when I read it! 😀

    • To be fair – it’s just a grocery bag hung on the drawer pull. But still. He does kind of know better – so the enticement was strong! Thanks so much, Amy – and you’re right. It’s a great kit! 🙂

  2. Kate

Card is just BEAUTIFUL!!! As always!
Finn is the star for sure. He’s a good boy!

  3. Bernice P

Lovely card and what a nice story about Finn… so glad he acclimated so well ..

  4. Susan K

Love the layering, esp that you used the wood elements from the free gift pack. Beautiful!
Way to go, Finn! Aced it the first day! He’ll be in the gifted class next time.

  5. Well, you already know how much your out-of-the-box card appeals to me if you’ve been on FB to see comments there. Finn’s day sounded like so much fun and the report card is so special…just like him! I doubt the others will bully him as they can’t read 🙂

    • True – but they just “know”…. 😉 Thanks so much, Karen – this is such a beautiful kit with so many things in it that are smack in my wheelhouse!! 🙂

  6. First: Stunningly beautiful card!!
Second: Finn does not strike me as one who would ever be bullied…he is one of those special ones with whom everyone wants to be friends, including those less gifted. (I have a daughter like that)
Third: Did I say that I love what you did with the PP kit???
Fourth: Gor-jus! Love the brown and pink.

    • Yep – he’s definitely voted most popular pretty much everywhere he goes! He and you daughter would probably love each other! Thanks so much, Julie! 🙂

  7. Pat Christ

Mary, your card is gorgeous, love the layout. And sweet Finn, of course he’s at the head of the class! 😍

  8. Kathy L

This is a beautiful version of pp kit! I love how you used both sides of the wood elements to bring more light color to the floral arrangement. Finn looks to be one of those “kids” who are up and eager to be off to school each day! Lucky you.

  9. Dee Kepler

You are a great inspiration to me. I love hearing about your doggie but your cards are so beautiful. I really appreciate the alternative cards for this pumpkin box and other kits you make!
