Stampin’ Up! Torn Corners Count My Blessings

Happy Tuesday!  Hoping that your week is going well.  Mine is…going.  Fast.  I’m going to look up and it’s going to be Saturday and I’ll be packing to go!  But I’m trying to consider that that just means it’s going to be closer to being over AND closer to seeing my friends (and the new Occasions catalog) at OnStage!!  And then…coming back home!

Yea.  That’s how I’m going to look at it.  Pull up my big girl panties and JUST DO IT!! 🙂

Today, though, let’s talk cards, shall we?  I made another card using the Count My Blessings stamp set.  Take a look-see:

Now – this isn’t my usual color scheme – I used them to play along with the Global Design Project challenge – but I keep forgetting that the deadline is in Australia time.  So…Tuesday there is Monday here and I keep missing it! 🙁

The sketch, though, that inspired my layout comes from the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge.

And I also played along with the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge – straight down the right side!

I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock and, using the leaf image in Count My Blessings, stamped all over it with Lemon Lime Twist ink.

For my four layers with the rounded corners – I decided to tear the edges.  The bottom layer is Calypso Coral card stock.  Next up is a piece of Painted Autumn DSP – and I sponged the torn edges with a little more Lemon Lime Twist.  Then comes another piece of Painted Autumn DSP and finally, a piece of Whisper White.  I adhered each piece with Liquid Glue – and then trimmed the excess with my Paper Trimmer.  For the the last layer, the Whisper White panel, I stamped the Count My Blessings flower on before adhering it.

To stamp that flower, I used a couple of techniques I learned from Amy Koenders.  First I inked the stamp with Peekaboo Peach ink.  Then, I used a sponge dauber to add some Calypso Coral around the edges of the flower – giving it a little depth.  For the leaves, I used my Blender Pen to pick up the Peekaboo Peach ink – making way for the Lemon Lime Twist (the Blender Pen sort of works like an eraser!).  I added the Lemon Lime Twist by coloring them directly with my Stampin’ Write Marker.  Then I “huffed” on the stamp and stamped it on my Whisper White panel.  And adhered it with the Liquid Glue.  Finally, I Fast Fuse’d the card front to a Lemon Lime Twist mat.

My sentiment, also from the Count My Blessing stamp set, is stamped on Whisper White in Calypso Coral ink.  I cut it out with an oval Stitched Shapes Framelits die and matted it on a Lemon Lime Twist scalloped oval, cut with the Layering Ovals Framelits.  I used Liquid Glue to adhere them together and then popped them on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a single Rhinestone Basic Jewel and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped another of the Count My Blessings flower images in Lemon Lime Twist across the bottom of a Whisper White panel.  Then I used my Peekaboo Peach Stampin’ Write Marker to dab color on each flower.  Finally, using the fine-tip side of my Calypso Coral Marker, I added just a touch of that to each flower, too.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Lemon Lime Twist mat and into my Peekaboo Peach card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Count My Blessings flowers in Lemon Lime Twist, Peekaboo Peach and Calypso Coral across the front…

…and a little more of the Painted Autumn DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  While this isn’t exactly my cup-o-tea in the colors department, it’s definitely a cheerful and fun card, yes?  And the Count My Blessings stamp set is certainly gorgeous, no if’s, and’s or but’s about it!  Hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix

Finn will, occasionally, stand up from his nap, stretch and come over to where I’m either working on the computer or at my stamping desk.

He stops in front of me, looking at me expectantly.

Sometimes it means he needs to go out.

More often – if means….Hug.

And I usually accommodate him – cuz…who doesn’t appreciate a good fur-hug in the middle of a stressful day?

Not easy to take a selfie with 65 pounds of wiggly Aussie half in and half out of your lap!

Consider yourself hugged! 🙂

  1. Pretty card Mary! Love the colors and your design is fantastic. 🙂

  2. Great card, Mary, love those torn edges and the stamped leaves on the background. 🙂

  3. Genius! I also know for sure why I didn’t like MY card the other day…these colors (excluding LLT) are NOT my cup of tea. Aside from that, you sure do know how to think outside the box! My intuition tells me it won’t be long before some challenge blog will ask you to be a permanent fixture on their Design Team. Finn is so sweet … you can call a boy that, can’t you?

    • Of course! I call him that all the time! He might cringe a little, but…he’ll have to deal with it cuz it’s true!! Thanks much, Karen. Don’t know about a Design Team – but I appreciate the kind words! 🙂

  4. Very pretty take on the sketch!

  5. Thanks for the Aussie hug!
Nice card. I like the way you used those colors. It wasn’t easy for me either. I guess that is why I like the challenges…gets me out of my rut a little bit. Interesting sketch, and you did it well. I like the torn edges and using the DSP. Count my Blessings is a great stamp set and really under-used.

  6. Kate

Hugged is good almost no matter how you come by it.
    Nice tropical looking card.

  7. I love love love lo ve love that card. The colors are beautiful!!! I love the layers. It is awesome.. Awww a Finn hug… Thats awesome!!!! Sweet doggy! =)

  8. Robbie Miller

Love the card … especially the torn edges … I like that look !!
Also, thanks for the hug … I needed that this morning 🙂 !!

  9. Susan K

Every time I see a card using that stamp set, I wonder why I don’t have it–you must not have done a bundle on it! 😉 Those torn edges are cool and the colors work perfectly! I like! Like the hug and your haircut too!

  10. I love your take on the “rounded corners” for our challenge! The torn edges add a nice texture to compliment the other crisp images. I’m sorry you missed GDP this time but am sure glad you played along with us at Tic Tac Toe Challenge!
