Stampin’ Up! Floral Statements and a Graceful Garden Thanks

Good mornin’, y’all!  It’s Friday!  I’d say…whooo-hoo!…but, I have to work tomorrow, so…kinda pointless!  I hope that you do not and that you’ve got something fun planned!

So, I saw a beautiful card over on Billie Moan’s Rambling Rose Studio blogsite (you can see that one right here) and I thought it was so beautiful that I wanted to give it a shot.

Well.  I did.  Give it a shot.  Let’s just say I’m not even on the target with Billie’s beautiful card.  But I did some Watercolor Pencil coloring with the new Floral Statements and Graceful Gardens and it turned out okay.  Take a look-see:

My layout was loosely inspired by the sketch at TGIF Challenges.

I made a mat for my card by stamping the new Burlap Background image in Crumb Cake ink on a panel of Crumb Cake card stock.  Then I tore the edges and sponged them with more Crumb Cake.

The art is from the Floral Statements stamp set – this is another one that I wanted the second I saw it!  I stamped it in Crumb Cake ink on another piece of Crumb Cake card stock.  Then I used my Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker to darken and emphasize the letters.

I colored the flowers with my Watercolor Pencils.  First, I colored them all in with the White pencil.  Then I added Calypso Coral or Melon Mambo, adding shading as I went along.  The leaves are done with the Old Olive Watercolor Pencil only – no first layer in white.  I touched up the flower outlines with my Soft Suede Marker.

Using my ruler and fine-tip end of the Soft Suede Marker, I added the “frame” around the flowers and sponged the edges with Crumb Cake.  Then I added a length of Old Olive 1/8″ Sheer Ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

I SNAILd the panel to the Burlap-stamped mat and adhered an Old Olive 1/8″ Sheer Ribbon bow to it with a Glue Dot and the card front was done!

On the inside, I made another Crumb Cake mat by stamping it with the Burlap image in Crumb Cake, tearing the edges and then sponging them with more Crumb Cake.  I stamped a few images from the Graceful Garden stamp set onto a second Crumb Cake panel, coloring them in the same manner as the flowers on the front.  I also added a Soft Suede “frame”.

My card base is Soft Suede – and I embossed the front of it in the Pinewood Planks Dynamic TIEF, just to add a little more texture to my card!  Then I SNAILd my mat and inner liner on the inside, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another flower from the Graceful Garden stamp set, in Crumb Cake, on the front…

…and some Graceful Gardens leaves on the envelope flap.  I left all these images in Crumb Cake so the flowers on the inside would pop even more!

Et Voila!  I was right!  This Floral Statements stamp set is flat out gorgeous!  One stamp – huge impact!  And the Graceful Gardens set complements it beautifully!!  Hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix…Wayne sent me a picture!

But it’s kinda sad. 🙁

Appears Finn has a hot spot.  Wayne thinks it’s ringworm, but…I’m pretty sure it’s a hot spot.

Regardless – Wayne’s putting medicine on it.

And Finn wants it off.

But it has to stay on.

Thus…

Poor puppy!

Seriously.  He’s got “poor pitiful me” down to an art form!!  🙂

  1. Oh, what a pretty card Mary! Your layering is perfect, the Burlap image under your focal panel looks amazing! And the framing adds so much to the flowers.

Poor Finn…at least it’s not the hard plastic cone. Ginny had one that she was supposed to wear for about 10 days, but she was so panicked over it that she just sat still and wouldn’t move! He does know how to put on the pitiful show. 😉

  2. What a fantastic job you did framing! Billie is pretty terrific and I have dogmarked some of her creations to try…just like I have with you. I hope to someday catch up with the two of you. Dr. Finkle thinks Finn’s problem is either caused by the pond or stress of having his Mom gone. I will pray that it heals quickly. Where on his body is it? It is a gloomy day here in NC. Yesterday was spectacular. Tomorrow at 6 AM we head for the Finger Lakes. We can’t wait to see my brother and sister-in-love. They live on Conesus Lake. It’s always a fun time where memories are made. Maybe I can get sis to make a card with me! Sorry you have to work Sat.

    • Thanks much, Karen! Hopefully one day I’ll be able to watercolor as good as Billie! It’s on his hind end – exactly where he lays on it. He swims – gets that undercoat wet – and it just stays damp. Classic hot spot! Enjoy your trip – even with the gloomy weather! Hope you get to do a little card making with your sister! Hi to Perry! 🙂

In your card today I see old fashioned with the burlap, elegance with the roses, and whimsy with the broken up thanks. I like it. I also learned something new after having dogs for years, had never heard of a hot spot before. Hope it heals quickly. Thanks to Wayne for sharing.

    • Thanks so much, Beki! Appreciate your kind words – and…you’re welcome for the dog-term education! It’s a multi-purpose blog! 😉

Poor Finn! Though he really does have the ‘poor me’ down!
I LOVE this card. The colors, the style, elegant rustic (is that an oxymoron?) look. Simply beautiful. I will have to try this. I did look at Billie Moan’s card too, and it it gorgeous, but in a totally different way.
Sorry you have to work tomorrow. I do too, but it is volunteer work….I don’t even get paid! Only 1/2 day though, so I can live with it.

    • Thanks so much, Julie – and I actually used your oxymoron when I posted the card to Pinterest! 🙂 He does put some poor pitiful me on, does he not!?? 🙂

  5. RitaR

Mary, not surprisingly, you knocked this one right out of the ballpark!! Tearing the edges of the “burlap layer” made it impossible to tell that this isn’t real burlap!! Wow! And your water colored blossoms are beautiful! Poor Finn …. don’t we suffer along with our pets when they are hurting?!! Hope he heals quickly with “Dr. Wayne’s” doctoring!

    • Thank you so much, Rita! Very kind, indeed! Yes – Finn will be fine – especially with Doc Wayne! And we’ll also have a few dozen new ailment remedies on the shelf to choose from in the future! 🙂

  6. Kathleen VanDeVeere

    I pick yours! Beautiful.
Poor Finnny. Vet weighed in yet? As we know, it’s all fun until someone winds up in a “collar”. 😢

    • You might be a little biased, but – thanks, Mom! 🙂 Nope – hasn’t gone to the vet yet. Trying some hot spot remedies first. Wayne bathed him with betadine and shaved the area some. And, of course, the collar!!

    • Kathleen VanDeVeere

You earned my bias a long time ago!

  7. Beautifully created, Mary!

  8. Elisha

Gorgeous card! That burlap background is perfection!! Poor Finn – the dreaded collar☹️. Hope tomorrow speeds by for you – ugh!

    • Thanks, Elisha – we’ve got some really great background stamps, don’t we?!? I got lucky – got the whole weekend off! Whoo-hoo! 🙂
