Stampin’ Up! Feathery Friends Sneak Peek

Happy Saturday, y’all!  Winter appears to be making one last ditch effort to freeze us out here in GA.

Well – freeze may be a bit of an over-statement.  It was 44 here on Friday.  But compared to the almost-90 two days before….it feels like winter! Windows closed again, heat instead of A/C.

I kind of rebelled and did a spring-y card with a new Host-Exclusive set called Feathery Friends.  I showed this one on my Facebook Live video yesterday.

Oh – you didn’t see it?  Well….that might be cuz I screwed up and did it on my personal page instead of my Stamps-N-Lingers business page.  Sheesh, Mare….

If you missed it – and would like to see the goodies in my second pre-order box, you can see it right here on YouTube….

Anywho – check out a super simple, single stamp set card from Feathery Friends.  Take a look-see:

The layout was inspired by the challenge this week at CAS(E) This Sketch.

And I used the color combination from the TGIF color challenge.

I started with a Very Vanilla panel and heat embossed the Feathery Friends flower image in Copper.

Then I used a combination of Blender Pens (picking up ink from the lids of my ink cases) and Stampin’ Write Markers to color the image in Emerald Envy, Crushed Curry and Flirty Flamingo.

Using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I added the sentiment (which I absolutely love!!) from Feathery Friends in Flirty Flamingo.

To finish off the card front, I added a few Crushed Curry Glitter Enamel Dots and SNAILd the panel to a Flirty Flamingo mat.

I really hemmed and hawed – cuz I wanted to use the bird image on the front – even heat embossed one of the birds in copper and fussy cut him!  But I decided to leave the floral image as the main event on the front and add the bird on the inside.

I heat embossed him in Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder in the corner of a Very Vanilla panel.  Then I colored him with my Crushed Curry and Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Write Markers.

I SNAILd the panel to a Flirty Flamingo mat and into my Emerald Envy card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another Copper-Embossed Feathery Friends bird on the front…

…and then I heat embossed in Copper a few of the other flower images in the Feathery Friends stamp set on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love the images in this stamp set – they’re fun to color and oh-so-pretty!  Hope you like!

We were only allowed to pick two out of the six Host Sets in the new Annual Catalog and it was a very hard choice!  But I settled on this one and the Background Bits stamp set (be sure to watch the video to get a glimpse of that one!).  Of course – you guys could also be having to make this hard decision….join me right now, and you can fill your Starter Kit with goodies from our pre-order!!  Give me a shout here – and let me get you hooked up! 🙂

Finn-Fan Fix…

Today, Finn had a visitor.

Who brought hot dogs cut up into little pieces.

We asked a dog trainer friend of ours to come help us learn how to use an electronic collar with Finn.  We wanted to be sure we were training him correctly with the collar.

So – let’s be clear, cuz I can hear you all gasping in horror and shock and getting ready to un-subscribe to the dog-abuser’s blog!

The collar has multiple settings.

On “1” – which is where we use it, I can’t feel it at all.

I thought it wasn’t working.

But – Finn feels it – and can hear the tiny hum, I suppose.  And it annoys him.

The purpose of training him is to teach him how to turn the annoying hum off.

Answer?  Come back.  When you come back – the humming stops.

Instantly.

That’s an artifact from training horses.  Apply some pressure and instantly remove it when they make even the slightest attempt to do what you need them to do.  And a horse learns it pretty quickly.  An Aussie will learn it at the speed of heat.

So please.  Don’t hate me.  Don’t unsubscribe.

We’re doing this to ensure that the single most important command in any dog’s repertoire (COME or HERE!) will be obeyed every time.

No mater what.

It could save his life one day.

Learning it, though, is hard work.

This is him right after we got done.  He can hardly keep his eyes open.

I’m flopped in the chair.

It’s hard work for mom, too.  And I didn’t even get hot dogs!! 😉

  1. Awesome card Mary! Love the clean design. Cute picture of the worn out puppy too! 🙂

  2. Nicely done. The bird looks like it almost has a paisley wing. The copper really sets everything apart (if that’s the correct term). Train up a dog in the way he should go and when he is trained, he will not depart from it. (Karen’s loose translation of Proverbs 22:6)

    • I hope your Karen-translated Proberb is correct!! And yes – the wing on both bird images in the set look like paisley. I think it’s too cute. Thanks so much, Karen! 🙂

  3. Elisha

Great card, Mary! I love the way the sentiment is nestled in the curve of the flower – perfection! I’m sure Finn will catch on fast – he’s so smart😀 We are chilly here in Ohio too – after LOTS of rain – glad I haven’t planted my veggies yet😉

    • I’m glad that it didn’t get any colder than it did so my veggies came thru fine! Hope you guys came thru the ton of rain okay! Thanks so much, Elisha! 🙂

  4. Susan K

Such a cute stamp set. I’d want that precious bird on the front too but it works great inside as well. Hope Finn adjusts quickly.

    • I know he will – probably quicker than I do. He’s way smarter than I am!! Thanks so much, Susan! 🙂

  5. Kathleen VanDeVeere

Very nice card…although, I am SO over “amazing” and “awesome”.
Yes, “come” is critical. And hard. And if a hot dog and a little hum will get it, que sera. Turning off my horror gasp. 😃

  6. Really pretty, love the coloring! And the bird on the inside is adorable!

  7. Pauline Silano

You’re right, it’s for their safety. My granddog has one to keep him in his yard. It’s totally not as bad as it sounds. I didn’t know there was a system for coming when called. I love hearing about Finn and the daily happenings. Today’s card is awesome – all your cards are!

    • No – the name is so much worse than the actual thing. It’s important to teach them how to make it stop. So you train with them on the leash, activate the collar when you say come and the instant he starts towards you, you turn it off. Animals learn from the RELEASE of the pressure (in this case turning off the collar). The quicker you are the quicker they learn! LOL – end of dog training lesson on the card-making blog!! Thank you so much, Pauline!!

  8. RitaR

Looking forward to watching your video! I really like your Feathery Friends bird and I love your copper embossed images and your coloring! I totally agree with you about the electronic collar training …. might save the life of your furry friend one of these days. I wonder if Finn likes hot dogs as much as our collie does? Surprisingly, our collie prefers little pieces of hot dogs over all other meat treats.

    • LOL – well, he was pretty interested in the hot dogs – he’s got a very large food drive, but…THESE were really yummy, apparently! He and you Collie must be on the same wave-length! Thanks much – and enjoy the video, Rita! 🙂

  9. Beautiful take on the sketch!

  10. juliejphoto

Looked at that set and thought, Nah, I can live without it. May have to re-think that. Nice clean, cute, again, card. Love the colors and the copper.

    • Yep – it should be on your list! Think of the coloring you could do with these pretty little birds. Thanks much, Julie! 🤗

  11. juliejphoto

Oh, yes, forgot to mention the Finn. A little annoyance here perhaps saves a much bigger pain later. I am not unsubscribing! And neither should anyone else. The shock collars do not hurt them.

    • I’m glad to hear it, Julie! I’d never do anything that would hurt him! Well. I did neuter him…. 😏

  12. I’ve loved this sense I first saw it May 2nd. LOL! I really do like this set, you can color it and dress this set up with sentiment according to your holidays. A mufti-holidays stamps set! I know everyone, don’t hate! I’m joking, sort of! It’s up to you how you use it. Just enjoy creating with it, no matter the time of year.
Thank you Mary, for my Finn-fix! I needed today! He’s so cute!

    • Yes, ma’am! It’s a good one, alright! I’m glad we’ll have it around for a year! Thanks so much! 🙂
