Mornin’, y’all! Hope you’re ready for something fun on your Saturday! I’m a temporary bachelor today – Wayne’s on his way to Arkansas. He’s swinging by Hot Springs to pick up his mom, then they’re heading to Ft. Worth, TX to see his grandmother (her mother). She’s 97 and not doing so bueno these days. So…time for a visit. I’m holding down the fort – well, with Finn’s expert assistance, of course!
It occured to me this afternoon that it’s been a while since I did an easy and quick card using a single stamp set. So I decided to remedy that today, using the pretty Swan Lake stamp set in the Occasions catalog. Take a look-see:
I played along with two challenges with this one. The first, from CAS(E) This Sketch, helped with the layout.
And my color scheme comes from the My Favorite Things Color Challenge.
As I said, this one was quite simple and quick to put together!
I started by cutting two identically sized pieces of Very Vanilla card stock for the card front. This is important. They must both be Very Vanilla. (Of course, I’m kidding – the mask can be whatever color you want – I have no idea why I specified Very Vanilla!)
I took one of the panels and, using the next-to-largest die in the Lots of Labels Framelits set, cut the middle out of the panel – effectively creating a mask. Then I used some sticky notes to hold the “real” card front panel (which really does need to be Very Vanilla!) in place on my work surface and placed the mat right over the top, also adhering it with sticky notes.
I used a wedge of Stampin’ Sponge and sponged inside the mask with Marina Mist ink, leaving it darker at the edges. When I had the color like I wanted it, I just carefully lifted up the mask! Then I matted the panel on a piece of Basic Black card stock.
Using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I stamped the little cattail image from Swan Lake in Basic Gray Archival Ink. Then I added the sentiment – one that I really love! – also in the Basic Gray.
I lightly colored in the image with my Marina Mist and Smoky Slate Stampin’ Write Markers, added some Pearl Basic Jewel Embellishments, and the card front was done!
On the inside, I added the second sentiment from Swan Lake in Basic Gray on a Very Vanilla panel. In the bottom corner, I stamped the second little pond image in Basic Gray and colored it with my Smoky Slate and Marina Mist Markers.
I matted the panel on Basic Black and into my Marina Mist card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done! 🙂
For my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, I added more Swan Lake flowers on the front…
…and on the back of the envelope.
Et voila! One pretty stamp set – Swan Lake – yields a perfectly simple and beautiful thank you card! Hope you like!

FINN-FAN FIX….
Finn likes to play Frisbee. Especially with his dad. Cuz his dad runs and dodges and stalks and grabs and pounces.
Mom is kinda boring cuz of how she thinks it sucks to trip and fall and maybe break her leg again. Those first two times sucked.
Mom’s a wuss. She’s pretty good for cooking and snuggling and foot-laying-on, but….Frisbee? Not so much.
Dad, though…now, he knows how to play a good game of Frisbee!
Boys – they soooo stick together!

Love your clean and simple design! The colors are perfect with the lake image. 🙂
Thanks, Amy! 🙂
Finn looks quite big in this pic AND so cute! Your card may be simple, but it’s very lovely. I always think your envelopes are the greatest!
Thanks so much, Karen! I was tickled with how it turned out. And yes – he’s pretty big!! 🙂
Such a delightful card! Amazing what you can do with one layer/one stamp set! So pretty! Our frisbee flingin’ formula is: With two frisbees in hand, mom stands at the top of the hill and throws one frisbee – Killi brings it back and must drop it before the second frisbee is thrown☺️ Wears him out lickety split with no broken legs lol! Enjoy your Saturday!
Yep – that’s exactly how this mom plays Frisbee! Which is fun – but nothing beats a good game of try-to-grab-it-out-of-my-mouth!! Thanks, Elisha! 🙂
Very serene and pretty card, Mary.
Very not-so-serene…but handsome…boys. Sticking together!
Wishing Wayne a good trip. Safe.
Yea – they’re pretty fun to watch!! Thanks, Mom! 🙂
What a sweet card! I enjoy the envelope designs you share, too. For me, decorating the inside of cards and envelopes to match is one of the most enjoyable parts of card making. While you’re a bachelor, perhaps you and Finn can make up for the time you were traveling and you two were missing each other!
We’re doing some snuggling, that’s for sure, Rita! I, too, like the fact that we can make the “whole” card coordinate! Thanks so much! 🙂
Your masking technique is flawless! What a pretty CAS card for today! Love it!
Thanks, Jari! 🙂
