Stampin’ Up! Lift Me Up and Away Thanks Sneak Peek!

Well, good morning from Atlanta!  Flight home was uneventful and I was met with a very very happy puppy!  Almost wiggled his little nub plum off!  Was awfully good to see him!  And awfully good to be home.  And to some rain!  Thank the Lord. 🙂

So – quick little funny story.  When I checked into my hotel yesterday, the little kid (okay – kid is relative) behind the desk handed me my key folder saying “now this is your room number and this first number here is the floor you’re on”….

Uhm….hello?  Is that something new?  Are there hotels where it might say 325 and yet you’d be on the 18th floor?  Hmmm.

It just made me chuckle after my 2 hour semi-white knuckle (there were cows quite literally sleeping ON the road.  A 65mph road!  Can’t imagine having to do that at night!) drive back to Salt Lake. 🙂

My card for today is a second sneak peek at the soon-to-be-available Lift Me Up bundle – that comes with the Lift Me Up stamp set and the Up & Away Thinlits and will save you 10%.  Take a look-see:

I used a new technique that I saw over at SplitCoast Stampers.  Jeanne Jachna did a great tutorial for making a Twine Inlay.  You can see it right here!

I started with a piece of Danson 90lb Cold-Press Watercolor Paper that I colored with my Aqua Painters, using Marina Mist and Pool Party inks.  I just swiped back and forth, first with Marina Mist, using a relatively dry Aqua Painter – filled with rubbing alcohol.  Then I came back over the top with Pool Party and that was all it took!

I cut the large intricate balloon from the Up & Away Thinlits.  I’d planned to use it later in the card, but I changed my mind.  So, it’s awaiting another use on another card…. 🙂

Per the tutorial, I laid my paper over another piece of card stock – I just used a piece of Very Vanilla – and traced the outline of the cut out.  Then I used Gold, Basic Black, Night of Navy and Elegant Eggplant Solids Baker’s Twine and laid them across my design.  I used just Basic Black and Elegant Eggplant for the “basket” – and I went horizontally across that portion.  For the balloon itself, I when vertically and I alternated the Eggplant and Night of Navy with the Gold.

When I had all my Baker’s Twine laid out, I popped my watercolored card front onto the twine-covered panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and then SNAILd all that to a Marina Mist mat.

I decided to use a plain Very Vanilla balloon to cover my twine.  It’s got a lot of coverage and I wanted the twine treatment to be the star.  So I cut another intricate Up & Away balloon and used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere it over the twine and back into the cut out.  I laid it on my work surface and stacked a couple of acrylic blocks on it to be sure to get good stick-on-ness.

My little sentiment clouds are from the Lift Me Up stamp set, stamped in Elegant Eggplant (x2) and Night of Navy (x1) on Very Vanilla.  Then I cut each of them out with the cloud die from Up & Away.  I also cut three clouds from Gold Foil and used some Liquid Glue to adhere the sentiments to their gold foil cloud mats.

Once the balloon was dry and good and stuck, I popped the cloud sentiments onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

And forced myself to stop and call the card front done!

On the inside, I taped off a 1/2″ strip at the bottom of another piece of watercolor paper, and inside the tape, added more of the Marina Mist and Pool Party watercolor.  Over that, I used Liquid Glue to add three lengths each of Night of Navy, Gold and Elegant Eggplant Baker’s Twine.  I carefully snipped the ends of the twine, and made sure there was enough glue to hold them down.  On reflection – if I did this again, I’d wrap the twine around and secure it with scotch tape.

Do as I say – not as I did, okay? 😉

I SNAILd the panel to a Marina Mist mat and into my Very Vanilla card panel, then SNAILd the card front on and the card was done! 🙂

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got a flurry of Lift Me Up balloons in Pool Party and Marina Mist, plus some Pool Party little clouds on the front…

…and a veritable storm of fun little clouds in Pool Party on the envelope flap.  See the streaks?  I got a little carried away stamping and got some…extra ink where I didn’t want it.  So I owned it like a Boss and used my Pool Party Stampin’ Write Marker to add more streaks.  Just like I meant ta do it! 🙂

Et Voila!  This technique is fun – just take your time and make sure you get good adherence of your twine to the double-sided tape that you use.  I might use Fast Fuse instead next time – give that a shot, why don’t you?  This is such a fun bundle, too – with great little sentiments and so pretty images!  Hope you like!

Fun card. And, yes, thankfully your up up and away has landed safely and you are home with the furry kid. I can only imagine his exhuberance…and the heart cockle warmth it brought to you.

  3. I am impressed with your baker’s twine covering skills! Wow, that looks neat underneath your balloon! Cool card! 🙂
