Stampin’ Up! Holly Berry Delicate Ornaments

Good morning!  Did y’all get to see the Super Duper Super-est Moon last night?  That’s not the real technical name, obviously.  It’s called a Beaver Moon for some reason.  If you didn’t get to see it, you can still take a gander tonight!  It’s worth the look, I promise. 🙂

For all y’all that have kids – you know the phenomenon I’m about to describe.  The kid (or puppy) starts to get tired.  Feels the dreaded sleepiness coming on.  And begins to fight it.

With everything they’ve got.  Until….bamm!  Asleep.

Finn’s version of that is to gallop around the kitchen chasing a soda bottle.  Or surfing the counter and forcing a parent to tell him “no – off!”.  Leaping up on any available lap.  Or….playing with the rope toy….

Sometimes he ends up asleep upside down!

However he winds up – you can almost set your clock by him.   When he becomes the most annoying, we just tell ourselves he’s fighting a powerful weariness and just doesn’t want to succumb and sleep.  Cuz…he doesn’t want to miss a minute of his puppy life!

He’s also a little….goofy… in his kennel sleeping habits.  I won’t say more – the picture says it all…

So, while he sleeps, I card-make!  Today’s is a super quick and easy Christmas card, using some Holly Berry Happiness and the Delicate Ornament Thinlits.  Take a look-see:

My layout is courtesy of the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge for this week:

And my color palette plays into the The Paper Players challenge.

pp321-sketch
To begin the card, I cut a Whisper White panel for the card front and a Stitched Shapes Framelits oval for the sentiment.  I stamped the sentiment from Holly Berry Happiness in Real Red on the oval.

Using a little dab of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, I secured the oval in place on the card front.  This is just a temporary stick-on, so don’t use too much glue, folks, or it’ll be really hard to get it off when it’s time! 🙂

Using the two-step holly images in the Holly Berry Happiness set, I stamped the outline image in Emerald Envy across the card front, turning the stamp to change the orientation of the holly sprig, and making sure to get some holly on the sentiment oval.

I came back and stamped the second holly image in Mint Macaron.  Then I added some berries in Real Red – these are also two-step images.  For the “fill-in” image, I stamped it off once before stamping the card.

When you do this technique of stamping layered pieces, you’ll likely see some “gaps” where the stamp doesn’t get all the way stamped right at the edge of the oval.  Not to worry – that gap is covered up by the mat! I picked the oval up and matted it onto a scallop-edge oval, cut with the Ovals Layering Framelits, in Emerald Envy.  Then I popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The ornament is cut with the Delicate Ornament Thinlits – the top piece in Red Glimmer Paper and the solid backer in Emerald Envy.  I adhered them together with Liquid Glue.  Then I laid the ornament on the top of the card and adhered just the bottom half with Liquid Glue.  I trimmed the excess – carefully! – with my Stampin’ Trimmer.  Then I adhered the remainder – which is the top of the ornament – at the bottom of the card.

I SNAIL the panel to an Emerald Envy mat and that was it for the card front.  I hemmed and hawed a bit about adding some more…something….but decided to leave it as it is!

For the inside of the card, I stamped a second sentiment from Hollly Berry Happiness in Real Red in the center of a Whisper White panel.  At the bottom, I added another of the two-step holly sprigs and berries.

I SNAILd the panel to an Emerald Envy mat and into my Real Red card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a Holly Berry Happiness sprig on the front…

…as well as on the envelope flap.

Et Voila! A little “double-time” treatment, using the wonderful Stitched Shapes Framelits.  And the Delicate Ornament die cuts really shine in the Red Glimmer Paper, don’t you think?  Hope you like! 🙂

  1. Beautiful card Mary! I love the pretty holly stamped behind the sparkly ornaments. Perfect! As for the dog and the sleeping habits…well, ours does the same thing. If you put a pillow on the floor or in the kennel, she will lay down right next to it (but not touching it) and sleep on the hard surface. Dogs are weird!! 🙂

  2. So pretty Mary! I love the glitter paper with your design and how you stamped the holly is perfect!

  3. Mom

Holly right up there with pines. Very nice!

    Sleeping dogs good!

  4. Debra Anderson

Love your unique way of using the ornament die cut! Thanks to you and all fellow demonstrators who include the measurements with their posts. It sure makes it easier if we feel a CASE coming on.
Finn’s antics are almost identical to our Aussie. They sure enjoy laying upside down. What a hoot to watch. Ours really has a lot of fun with a soda bottle as well. We realized early on that a water bottle didn’t have a chance. The 2 liters last a tiny bit longer. Finn is blessed to have a whole farm to roam. Ours has to make do with a small back yard and walks around the block but you can’t miss what you’ve never had,(unless that is what he dreams about when he whines in his sleep). Lol!

    • Thanks so much, Debra! And you’re welcome for the measurements. No point re-einventing the wheel a hundred times! I don’t think he’s dreaming of what he doesn’t have when your guy is whining. Probably “seeing” cats walk across his path showing no respect!! 🙂

  5. Really beautiful card, Mary! I love all of that holly, and the ornament is lovely that way! Beautiful inside and out, too!

  6. Ellie Peckler

Mary, this is such a pretty card. I like how you used real red and emerald green. They are such happy colors. Speaking of happy, Finn must be one happy pup having you for a parent! – Ellie

    • Thank you so much, Ellie! The Emerald and Real Red are perfect for Christmas! And he is a happy pup – and I can only hope we have something to do with that! 🙂

  7. Great take on the sketch!

  8. This is a great way to use our colors as well as the sketch! Very pretty and unique! Love all the holly! Thanks for sharing this and playing with the Players this week! Always love to see your creations in the gallery!

  9. Beautiful holiday card! Love the ornaments! Glad you shared it with the Paper Players!
