Stampin’ Up! Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun!

Well, it’s Monday again, huh?  Sitting and watching the Olympic gymnasts while typing this on Sunday night – really quite amazing what those young ladies can do.  I mean, some of those back flips and double twister somersault twirly-doodles…crazy!  Impressive.  Hopefully they’re all drinking bottled water – and even brushing their teeth with it! Bleh…..

I think I just sprained my ankle watching Simone Biles do “The Biles” – a move so difficult and unique that they named it after her.  She’s remarkable!

And – now we’re seeing a Russian woman (yes, woman – she’s 41!!) who is competing in her SEVENTH Olympics!  Forty-one.  That’s unheard of.  That’s like…a 20 year old Thoroughbred running in the Breeder’s Cup.  That’s like… a 60 year old Quarterback in the NFL.  She’s got a kid the same age as the girls on the USA team.  Good on ya, Oksana Chusovitina!

Well, since I for sure can’t do any of those things they’re doing (at 16 – 41 – or….yea), let’s move swiftly to something I can at least sort of do – make cards!  This one is a Halloween card.  I used the Spooky Fun bundle and added a little Ghoulish Grunge! My sentiment is from Suite Seasons.  Take a look-see:

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
My layout for this one is inspired by the sketch challenge from CAS(E) This Sketch – #184:

CTS #184 Sketch
I started by SNAILing a piece of the Halloween Nights DSP to a Pumpkin Pie mat.

My central art is a Whisper White panel.  Using the spider web from Ghoulish Grunge, I stamped it twice in the top corners in Smoky Slate ink – stamping it off once before stamping the card.  Then I used the net (?) image and stamped it all over – also in stamped-off-once Smoky Slate.  Then I tore all the edges.

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I used a few images from Spooky Fun, stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink to mimic the players in the Suite Seasons sentiment I planned to use.  Bats for the Vampires, the witch and the ghosts!  Then I added the sentiment in Pumpkin Pie ink, and SNAILd the panel to the card front.

I pulled out the Halloween Scenes Edgelits Dies (the fence and the tree cut the card stock as edgelits – the remainder are framelits – and cut a Basic Black tree and a Smoky Slate fence.  For the decorations, I stamped the gravestones in Basic Black Archival Ink on Whisper White and the pumpkin trio in Tangerine Tango on Whisper White and cut them both with their matching framelits.

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I used Multi[Purpose Liquid Glue to layer on the pieces.  The tree hung over the edge, so I trimmed it with my snips.  I colored the pumpkins with my Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write Marker.  Then I added the little faces – with stamps also in Spooky Fun – and popped them on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Before I called it “done”, I stamped the Ghoulish Grunge spider web again – this time in straight Smoky Slate – letting it got clear to the edge of the card front.  I used my Smoky Slate Stampin’ Write Marker to fill in any gaps – and to “extend ” the web onto the Pumpkin Pie mat.   Then I added some silver star sequins with my Fine Tip Glue Pen – I had those leftover from the Tin of Tags kit I put together over the weekend.  You could for sure use the stars in the Metallic Sequins Assortment!

And that was it for the card front.

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
On the inside, I stamped the Ghoulish Grunge web again in the top corner of a Whisper White panel, in stamped-off-once Smoky Slate.  I added a Basic Black bat that I’d cut with the Halloween Scenes Edgelits die.  And

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Down in the bottom, I added some more of the pumpkins – cuz why the heck wouldn’t I?!? – then I SNAIL it to a Pumpkin Pie mat and into my Basic Black card base.  I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a pumpkin boys again on the front…

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and more of the Halloween Nights DSP for a custom envelope flap.

Suite & Spooky Ghoulish Fun 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  Halloween hasn’t been my favorite of the holidays since I got to be too old to trick-or-treat (which has been a couple of years now)!  But I do really like this bundle – Spooky Fun and the Halloween Scenes Edgelits really are a lot of fun!  And Ghoulish Grunge.  Yet another background/texture stamp set – that’s so darned perfect for Halloween cards that it’s crazy!  I see many more cards between now and 31 Oct with this one. Hope you like! 🙂

  1. Mom

I, too, glued to the games. Inspired, as always.

Wonderful spooky card! Happy to buy if you are selling…😃

  2. I love this Mary! Your card is just perfectly layered and your design is awesome. 🙂 I agree with you on the 41 year old lady…I saw her last night and she is pretty amazing!

  3. Ellie Peckler

Mary, I love this card. I know I’m repeating myself, but you are SO creative. How long did it take you to design the card and then create it? P.S. Chomping at the bit for the Holiday catalog. Could you please tell me when you are going to send to your customers?

    Thanks, Ellie

  4. Aww, shucks, Ellie! It means a lot to me that you think so! It didn’t take too awfully long – this was one that I sort of created as I went along – I’d get an idea in my head and then see if it worked or not! There are so many fun things in the bundle that I just kept “finding” elements to add! Catalogs should mail from the company this week! Like any day now! 🙂

  5. What a “fright” of a card 😉 Love all the different elements and even hiding elements – Great card!

  6. Thanks, Jaime! 🙂

  7. Oh, what a wonderful card! Great take on the sketch!

  8. Thanks, Leigh! 🙂

  9. quip1320

  10. Thanks! 🙂
