Stampin’ Up! Better Together Birthday Shutter Card

Good morning, y’all!  If you’ve come over from Amy Koender’s blog – welcome!  If you’re one of my regulars – welcome back! 🙂

Today’s card is another shutter card – I made it to share with our Amy’s Inkin’ Krew meeting later today.  About 7 of us will gather round, eat some good food from Panera Bread and have a little business meeting.  Then three of us will share a project and we’ll all put them together.  Jari Francis, Sue Prather and I will be “card-making-in-public”.  Which I sincerely hope won’t be like doing math in public! 😉

I’ve made a few shutter cards for you – and I’m going to be revising my tutorial.  I think I’ve found a little easier way to get the inside sentiment installed – I’ll share that in this post and then update the Tutorial.  Stand-by for that, okay?

This one today uses the beautiful new Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper and a new stamp set called Better Together.  Take a look-see:

Better Together Shutter Card 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I started by making a Basic Black gate card base – 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and score and fold at 2 1/8″ and 6 3/8″.  Then I cut two pieces of the Floral Boutique paper and matted each of them on a piece of Night of Navy (it’s hard to see – but there really is a navy blue mat!).  I SNAILd them both to the front gate panels of the card.

Better Together Shutter Card 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the inside, I made Basic Black shutters.  The center panel of the card is another piece of the DSP, matted on Night of Navy.  Then I used the new Circles Layering Framelits to cut the 2 1/4″ scallop-edged window out of the middle.  And it was time to make my sentiment circle, which is where I deviated from the Tutorial directions.

I cut a Whisper White circle and a Night of Navy mat and SNAILd them together.  On the Whisper White sentiment circle, I stamped Happy Birthday from the new Better Together stamp set in Night of Navy.  I laid the center panel – with the window cut-out – in place and then set the sentiment circle under it.  I lightly traced around the sentiment circle (so I could adhere it right back where I wanted it).  Then I used a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to get it stuck down.

Better Together Shutter Card 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I put Stampin’ Dimensionals across just the top and bottom of the center panel and adhered it over the sentiment circle.  Finally, I placed the shutters, using Tear & Tape Adhesive, just like it says in the Tutorial.  And that did it for the shutter!

Better Together Shutter Card 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

For the belly band and the front decoration, I used a 1″ x 11″ piece of Night of Navy and loosely wrapped it around the card to find the right length.  I used a few Glue Dots to hold it together.

For the sentiment, I used the Layering Circles Framelits again and cut a scalloped Night of Navy mat and a straight sided Whisper White circle.  I stamped the second sentiment from Better Together in Night of Navy.

The flowers and fern leaves are cut from Whisper White, Basic Black and Night of Navy, using the Botanical Builder Framelits.  The white flowers got a little sponging with Pink Pirouette and some edge sponging with Night of Navy.

 Better Together Shutter Card 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I stuck the sentiment circle onto the belly band and then added all the flowers and leaves with Liquid Glue.  A few Pearl Basic Jewels in the flowers finished off the card.

Better Together Shutter Card 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I used a little Night of Navy to add the large flourish image from Flourishing Phrases on the front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope.

Better Together Shutter Card 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

…and made a custom flap with another piece of the Floral Boutique DSP.

Better Together Shutter Card 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Voila!  I love this new Better Together stamp set – it’s just full of sentiments – and isn’t the font pretty on these two stamps?  I’m really glad that it was one of the first stamp sets I got from the new Annual Catalog! 🙂
