Stampin’ Up! Number of Years Shutter Fold Birthday Card!

Home! Had a good flight (other than them running out of food before they got to us!) and a great last chat with Amy.  What a wonderful 5 days with her – we had a really good time.  OnStage 2016 was fun – we ate some great meals (at the hotel, surprisingly – if you ever go to SLC – try Spencer’s Steak House.  Fabulous!) – chatted and laughed and really just had fun!

And, man am I glad to be home!! 😉

But, for today – I have a super fun card to share with you.  It’s called a Shutter Fold – cuz the inside opens and closes like a camera shutter!  And it’s really not too hard to make, either.  I’ve posted a Tutorial here.  So, on this post, I’m going to show you how to decorate today’s card – not how to build the shutter card itself, okay?

This one is destined for my wonderful hubby’s 60th birthday which is fast approaching.  I’ve used some of the fun It’s My Party DSP and added the obligatory “60” with the Number of Years stamp set and the matching Large Number Framelits.  Take a look-see:

Fun, huh?  But…the real fun is on the inside!

See?!?  When you open the card up, the shutter opens – like a camera shutter – to reveal the hidden sentiment!

Like I said, the mechanics of the card are explained in the Tutorial.  I first saw this kind of card over on Sandi MacIver’s blog – you can see it right here!

I started with a Gate Fold Card in Basic Black.  Using a 5 1/2″ by 8 1/2″ piece of card stock, I scored and folded it at 2 1/8″ and 6 3/8″.  For the front “gates”, I SNAILd two rectangular panels of the It’s My Party DSP Stack onto mats of Melon Mambo and then to each of the front sections of the card.

On the inside, I SNAILd another panel of the It’s My Party DSP to a Melon Mambo mat and then cut a 2 3/8″ hole in that panel with my Circles Collection Framelits die.  I saved that circle to use to decorate my belly band! 🙂

Then I popped the now-holey panel into the center of the inside of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals –  across the top and bottom only! I followed the Tutorial to build and insert the shutters.

My sentiment is from Sunburst Sayings, and I stamped it in Basic Black Archival Ink on a 1 7/8″ circle of Whisper White card stock.  I surrounded it with Crushed Curry stars from the same set and matted it on another circle of Melon Mambo!

Then I put some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue on the back of the circle, took a deep breath and held my tongue just right, and carefully slid the sentiment behind the open shutter.  Then I kind of quickly wiggled it around to be sure that it was centered in the shutter and straight!  It works – trust me! 🙂

I decided it would be fun to do a little more decorating on the inside, so I inked up some balloons from the Balloon Celebration stamp set.  I did a couple of large ones in Melon Mambo and Mint Macaron and a small one in Crushed Curry, then I punched them with the matching and bundled Balloon Bouquet Punch.  These are three step stamps – so stamp the full balloon first, then the shade image (that’s the sort of “half balloon” image with all the dots), then add the balloon outline with your Basic Black. 🙂

I also thought it would be fun to have a heart balloon – that’s a thing! – so I stamped the Love You heart from Bear Hugs in Melon Mambo and cut it with it’s matching die from the Bear Hugs Framelits.

From there, it was just a matter of adhering everything to the inside of of the card – and making sure none of my little balloons interfered with the closing of the gate. 🙂

That took care of the card, so I got busy with my belly band.  The strip is 1″ x 11″, and I wrapped it loosely around the closed card to get a good “measurement”, and closed it with some Glue Dots.

                           

Using the circle that I’d cut from the inside panel, I SNAILd it to another, slightly larger, circle of Melon Mambo.  Then I cut a big Star with my Star Framelits and stuck it all together.  For the sentiment – such as it is – I stamped the 6 and the 0 from the Number of Years stamp set in Versamark Ink on a piece of Melon Mambo card stock, sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.  Using the matching Large Number Framelits, I cut them out and adhered them to my circle.

I overlapped them a little to add just a touch of “cute”.

Okay.  Really?  They were a little big for my circle.  But it ended up cute, right? 🙂

And folks – that was it for the card.  This is a really easy fun fold – but it looks totally complicated and hard.  Watching it open and fold is just the tiniest bit addictive.

For the Medium Whisper White Envelope, I decorated the front with more Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo and Mint Macaron balloons from Balloon Celebration.  Just for ducks, I also stamped the Let Us Celebrate balloon string in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  And a few Sunburst Sayings stars in Crushed Curry.  AND a few glued on stars – cut with the little star punch in the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack.  Hey – it’s a party-on-an-envelope!

The inside got a quick liner cut with my Envelope Liner Framelits from another piece of the It’s My Party DSP.

Et Voila!  I think this is going to be fun to give him – the black seems sort of “the thing” for 60, but it’s not all somber like he’s got a foot in the grave.  60 is the new 40, right?? 😉
