Stampin’ Up! Sky’s The Limit Sunburst Congrats!

Happy Saturday!  Today’s share uses a stamp set that’s not so much available – Sky Is The Limit.  I try really hard to not use retired and discontinued things, but the card I made – the reason for the card! – just needed the images and sentiment that I used. You’ll see why in just a second!

I made this card to give to a young lady who just graduated from Delta Flight Attendant training.  She’s Chris’ girlfriend – has been for a long time! – and so is definitely part of the “family”.  We went over and had a celebratory dinner with her, and her parents and grandparents (and Chris’ parents, of course) last night, so I wanted to give her a card.  Cuz…duh.

So – I needed an airplane.  Sky Is The Limit was the only one I had.  Easy decision!  I added a Sunburst Thinlit die cut, and a couple of sentiments from the Sale-A-Bration set called Perfect Pairings.  Take a look-see:

I started by cutting a panel of Pool Party card stock and one from the Wildflower Fields DSP.  Then I ran that one thru the Big Shot with the Sunburst Thinlits die.  I SNAILd the sunburst panel to the Pool Party Panel.

For the art piece, I cut a So Saffron mat with my 2 1/2″ Circle Punch and a 2 3/8″ circle from a piece of Color Me Irresistible Specialty DSP.  I lightly sponged the edges of the Color Me Irresistible circle with Pool Party ink.  Then I SNAILd it to its So Saffron mat.

I made some clouds by stamping several of the cloud/cupcake frosting image from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set in Pool Party on Whisper White card stock.  Then I punched them out with the Tree Builder punch that goes with it and gently sponged their edges with a little more Pool Party ink.  Isn’t it cool how everything just works together? 🙂

Finally, I inked up the airplane image from Sky Is The Limit with Versamark ink on a scrap of Whisper White.  Then I sprinkled it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  After I fussy cut it out, I used my Night of Navy and Real Red Stampin’ Write Markers to barely color in the airplane (Delta colors, you know).  I also really really lightly sponged a little more Pool Party (I mean – lightly,  I didn’t even re-ink the dauber) “behind” the plane, so that it looked more like the sky behind it.

Then I started layering the clouds onto my circle – I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue and added two clouds, then the airplane – angled so it looks like it’s playing with the clouds (which is a complete blast, OBTW!) and then I popped the last cloud on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from the Perfect Pairings stamp set (which you can still get FREE for a couple more weeks!), is stamped in Basic Black Archival ink on Vellum card stock and then punched out with my Scallop Circle Punch.  Just a hint – after you stamp on the vellum, you’ve got to give it a little time to dry, or hit it with your heat tool.  Don’t get too anxious to touch it or do anything else with it until it’s good and dry – you’ll smear it and have to start over!  This sentiment is actually two stamps in the set.  That’s what’s so cool about this set – you can mix and match to say almost anything!

I used about 7 little tiny strips of Stampin’ Dimensional – stuck on the back of the vellum, lined up inside individual letters, so that you can’t see it! Persnickety – but worth it!

Once everything was in place on the circle, I used some more Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the whole thing in the center of the Sunburst die cut – and the front was done!

For the inside, I took a Whisper White card stock panel and stamped a sentiment from Sky Is The Limit in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Then I stamped the “cloud” image over the top of it – I used Pool Party, and stamped it off once on scrap paper before I stamped the card stock.

Across the bottom, I used another strip of Wildflower Fields DSP, layered with more So Saffron, and ending with some of the new Pool Party 3/8″ Glitter Ribbon.  Then I added the white panel to a mat of the same Wildflower Fields DSP and SNAILd the whole thing into my So Saffron card base.

I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done.

The Medium Whisper White Envelope got a few of the stamped off once Pool Party clouds – I put them in the center of the envelope (and after I took the picture, I wrote the newly minted Delta Flight Attendant’s name right in the middle of the clouds.  See what I did there?  She’s going to be flying….thru the clouds….so I put her name in the clouds.  Get it?) I added the Sky Is The Limit airplane in Basic Gray Archival Ink in the corner…

…and I added a liner with the Wildflower Fields DSP, that I cut with my Envelope Liner Framelit!

Et Voila!  A card so suited for a new flight attendant that I don’t see how I could have not used this great stamp set!  I hope that you got one when they were available!  If you didn’t…keep checking back here.  I’ve got a couple extra sets and I’d bet money one will be in a Blog Candy give away one day soon! 😉
