Stampin’ Up! Large Numbers Balloon Celebration Birthday

‘Sup, y’all?  I hope that you’re getting ready for a fun and relaxing weekend!  I’ll be busily trying to get ahead on cards for the week – I’ll be out of town Monday thru Thursday!  And, for these short trips, I don’t take supplies and tools – I’m always so tired at the end of the work day that I don’t even have the energy to stamp. 🙁  I have to take cards ready to blog (oh – and I need their pictures with me, too!).  So….busy weekend!  But that’s a good kind of work, yes? – stamping and making cards.  Poor pitiful me! 😉

Today’s card is a birthday card.  For a little boy who’ll be turning one in a week.  Yes, I said one.

I’m pretty sure he’s going to have zero appreciation for this card.  Heck, he probably won’t even care about his present.  Maybe he’ll eat cake?  Ice Cream?  What do one year olds even eat, besides baby food?!?  Well, that’s for his parents to worry about – just like this card is really for his parents! 😉

I used the fun Large Numbers Framelits and its matching and bundled stamp set called Number of Years.  I added a few Balloon Celebration balloons and pulled out some Cherry on Top DSP.  Take a look-see:

As you can see, I did another kind of fun-fold.  This one’s called a collar fold.  And I wanted – in the very worst way! – to have a little Bow Builder bow on this card.  I even made it!  But nothing I did made it work.  Cause I also wanted the “1”.  So, I finally accepted the inevitable and set the little bow aside.  I’ll use it some time or another.

By golly!

For this card, I got my color inspiration from the latest Pals Paper Arts color challenge #291:

PPA291 Sketch

These aren’t colors I normally pick to put together, so this one took some effort for me!   I started by pulling out my Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush card stock.  Then I looked around for a DSP that uses these colors.  And, lo and behold, I came upon the Cherry on Top DSP Stack!  So I pulled out two pieces that worked with my color scheme.  I used the candles design for the card front – and I just cut a slit (about 1 5/8″ long) at the mid-point of the long side (so…2 5/8″ from the end).  I scored from the edge to the end of the slit on both sides, and folded the “collar” down.  I also rounded the tip using the outside corner rounder on my Envelope Punch Board.  Then I used a little SNAIL to secure the collar to the card front.

I made a smaller piece out of the second Cherry On Top paper to place behind the card front.  I lined things up and stamped the word “Happy” from Number of Years in Watermelon Wonder.  Then I SNAILd it to a Cucumber Crush mat and then added the collar-folded card front over that.

I realized that it would be fun to make the “1” into a candle – like the kind of candles you can get at the grocery store.  So, I used the die from the Large Numbers Framelits Die set to cut the number from a piece of Cucumber Crush paper from the 2015-2017 In Color Designer Paper Stack.  For the flame, I stamped the flame image from the Build A Birthday stamp set (Annual Catalog) in Crushed Curry on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I just fussy cut it and then secured it to the back of the large number “1” with a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

Large Numbers Balloon Celebration 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I popped it onto the card front with some Stampin’ Dimensionals.  For the Birthday banner, I stamped the Number of Years banner and little flag images in Pool Party and then added the sentiments (“birthday” and “st) in Watermelon Wonder.  Then I cut them out with the matching dies from Large Numbers Framelits.

I used some Stampin’ Dimensionals and Liquid Glue to adhere the banner over the number “1” and Liquid Glue to slide the “st” flag under the collar.  Then I added a balloon from the Party Wishes stamp set (Occasions Catalog).  I stamped it in Cucumber Crush on a piece of Whisper White and then punched it out with the balloon punch from the matching, bundled Party Punch Pack.  I used a little bit of the Liquid Glue to stick it to the banner.

Large Numbers Balloon Celebration 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I stamped all the balloons from Balloon Celebration – using the outline image and the shadowing image.  I did two in Watermelon Wonder and one in Cucumber Crush.  I punched them out with the Balloon Bouquet Punch.  I stamped some strings – I did the two on the left as “plain” strings and the one on the right is the “Let Us Celebrate” string – onto the card front and then added their balloons.  I used Liquid Glue to add the Watermelon balloon on the left side and Stampin’ Dimensionals for the other two.

I tied three little double bows of Gold Metallic Thread and stuck them to each balloon with a dab of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.   Then I brushed one of my watered-down Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush pens over the balloons and the candle flame.  And that was it for the front of the card.

For the inside, I stamped the sentiment from Party Wishes in Watermelon Wonder.  Then I added a Pool Party balloon and string from Balloon Celebration.  I brushed the balloons and the sentiment with the Clear Wink of Stella brush.

Large Numbers Balloon Celebration 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I added a vertical strip of the Cherry On Top DSP, matted on Cucumber Crush, to the side of the Whisper White liner, then I SNAILd the whole thing to a Cucumber Crush mat.

Then I added the liner to my Watermelon Wonder card base and popped the front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals – and the card was done!

For the envelope, I decorated the front of a Whisper Whie Medium Envelope with three Balloon Celebration balloons and strings – one in each of the color challenge colors, brushing each of them with the Clear Wink…

…and then I cut a liner from the Cherry On Top DSP with my Envelope Liner Framelits.

And look how cute the #imbringingbirthdaysback stamp is – done in coordinating Pool Party! 🙂

Et Voila!  A perfect little Happy First Birthday card for a little dude who’ll probably just drool on it.   But, I think his parents will like it.  At least I hope so!  And I hope that you like it, too! 🙂  And, the fun thing about this card is that if you just cut different numbers – you could make this for an older child or an adult!

There’s still time to leave a comment over on my post from last Wednesday – and get yourself entered to win the Botanical Blog Candy!

Enjoy your day.  Don’t forget to “Spring Forward” all your clocks when you go to bed tonight! 🙂

  1. How cute Mary! Love that little #1 candle, so sweet! I’m sure that he’ll love it…or at least his parents will. 😉 Have fun stamping this weekend!

  2. Mom

Nice 1st birthday card! And I suspect it will be accompanied by ice cream and cake. Those first bites of chocolate are memorable…😃…even at one year.

Cute, Cute Card! I want to know about the “watered-down” wink of Stella?? What’s up with that……I didn’t find any info on why this is?? Can you explain? Thanks.

  4. Oh sure! I’d read somewhere on the internet that when your Wink starts to run out, you can open up the barrel and add a little water. So I did – and now I use that to “watercolor” with – picking up the ink from the lid of an ink pad or from an acrylic block. Check out this post….
