Stampin’ Up! Love At First Sight

Happy Hawmp Day!  Three more days till I’m homeward bound – trying to get ahead on cards so I can ship stuff home!  Yikes.

My card today is a reprise of a layout I did last week – even uses the same framelits, the awesome Botanical Builder.  But, the color scheme is wildly different and the purpose of the card quite blatantly Valentine’s Day – to which end I used the First Sight stamp set from the Occasions Catalog.  Take a look-see:

Love at First Sight 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

If you don’t remember the card that looked a whole lot like this – except for being completely different, here ’tis and here’s a link to its recipe:

Botanical Builder Sunburst Sayings 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I built both these cards for my friends to use when they came over again last Saturday for some stamping and socializing.  The earthier colors of the card from last week were perfect for one lady, but not quite so much for another.  So I modified the layout so they could both play with the flowers from Botanical Builder, but also get a card that they were going to love!  Kelly is a pink-and-blue kinda girl, so…these colors were totally in her wheelhouse.  And – the card turned out to be a perfect hit with my friend at work – to whom we’d promised to make a Valentine’s Day card.  So – pretty much a home-run! 🙂

For this particular card, I started with a piece of White Corrugated Paper.  I ran it thru the Big Shot inside the Happy Heart TIEF and then I matted it on Basic Black card stock.  I’d decided that Melon Mambo, Black and White would be the foundational colors for this card.  Why?  Well….pink!  And – I have the 3/8″ Striped Satin Ribbon in Melon Mambo and Black here with me – so my ribbon question was already answered!

Using my Brayer, I inked up the embossing side of my Happy Hearts TIEF with Melon Mambo ink and ran a square of Whisper White card stock thru the Big Shot.  I carefully peeled open the TIEF and discovered that I didn’t have as much – or as even – color as I wanted, so I just Brayered more ink on and ran it thru again.  Easy Peasy.  It, too, is matted on Basic Black.

Love at First Sight 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The sentiment, from First Sight, is stamped in Melon Mambo on a square of Whisper White card stock, and matted on Basic Black.  I love how the black sort of anchors the white and the bright Melon Mambo with the splashes of Bermuda Bay!

I built my “cake” – SNAILing the matted Melon Mambo embossed square to the White Corrugated paper card front.  Then I layered my ribbon across that, securing it in the back with scotch tape.  Using a Stampin’ Dimensional on the top and the bottom of the matted sentiment square, and some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue in the center, I adhered that over the top of the ribbon.  And then it was time to play – and frost the cake!

I cut a bunch of flowers from the Have a Cuppa DSP Stack – it’s perfectly suited for my color scheme – and some Basic Black card stock, using the Botanical Builder Framelits.  Then I did a bunch of dry-fitting and playing around until I got a floral arrangement that I liked.  Once I did, I built some of the flowers, using Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the layers together.  Once I had the two largest flowers built, I turned them upside down and, using a few Glue Dots on the back, stuck on several little strands of Gold Metallic Thread.  I didn’t worry about how long they were at this point – I’d be trimming them down to size later.

Love at First Sight 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I started layering flowers onto the card, using my Fine-Tip Glue Pen and Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  The top/center flower is popped up a bit with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

As a final touch, I added some Pearl Basic Jewels to the flower centers and a couple three on the sentiment square.  Then I trimmed my little Gold Metallic Thread ends down and set the whole thing aside!

Love at First Sight 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

For the inside, I SNAILd a Whisper White panel to a Basic Black mat.  I first stamped “Be Mine” (from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set) in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Then I used my Melon Mambo Stampin’ Write Marker to color just the word “forever” from the First Sight sentiment stamp and, using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, stamped it right under the first image.

Love at First Sight 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I completed the inside liner by stamping the little bird from First Sight, in Bermuda Bay, and the pretty heart image – also from First Sight – in Melon Mambo.  Then I SNAILd that into my Melon Mambo card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

The Whisper White Medium Envelope got a little love with another Melon Mambo First Sight heart on the front…

Love at First Sight 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

…and then it got a liner.  Now, since this is a pretty thick card already, I didn’t want to add any more to the envelope.  So…I used ink, baby!

Love at First Sight 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Little Melon Mambo hearts and Bermuda Bay bird -all over the inside flap.  Easy.  Thin!  And cute, too!  Another  win-win.

Et Voila!  The same exact layout, using similar elements – just showcases the incredible crafty flexibility inherent in these Stampin’ Up! bundles and papers and stamps!  Gotta love it.

Interestingly, both ladies CASEd my two cards – but they each put their own spin and “touch” on their cards. Neither of them looked exactly like mine – they both were exactly “theirs”!  Too fun.

Have a great day!
