Happy Friday, y’all! I’m counting down the days until I head out again – so am enjoying as much “at home” time as I can! Today was exciting – I got my hair cut.
No – that’s not the cause for excitement! When I got home – I had a box sitting by the gate that said “Stampin’ Up!” on the side! Oh my goodness, what fun THAT was to open! Stamps, and paper, and punches, and inks, and embellishments and more stamps and framelits…..wow. I surely did enjoy pulling those things out of that box!! 🙂
I spent a little time making a card with some of the new goodies, but my share for today is one I made a couple of days ago – you’ll maybe recall that I’m busily getting ahead on cards so I can keep the blog posts going next week…
So, this one is a masculine birthday card – I get asked for those every once in a while, so I figured I’d try to come up with one! It uses Sky is the Limit (this is a Sale-A-Bration stamp set that’s only available until 15 Feb!) and a sentiment from Guy’s Greetings (a fun set from the Annual Catalog). Take a look-see:
My card design was inspired by the fun sketch from RetroSketches. Challenge #196 looks like this:
I started by matting some Perfectly Artistic DSP (SAB – also only available until 15 Feb!) on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock. For the vertical element, I matted some of the fun new Going Places DSP (Occasions) on Very Vanilla. I made sure to crop the DSP so the airplane blueprint would remain visible when the card went together! I SNAILd that to the card front.
For the sentiment banner, I pulled out a little more Very Vanilla card stock. Using the airplane from Sky is the Limit, I inked it up in Crumb Cake ink – then stamped it off once. Then I stamped the banner one time on the right side, moved to the left and stamped again (no re-inking) and then moved left and did it one final time. Creating some movement in the airplane.
The sentiment itself is from the Annual Catalog set called Guy Greetings. I could have used the sentiment from Sky is the Limit – it’s a really nice birthday sentiment – but I just wanted something a little more…formal looking. A little more scientific looking – to pair with the blueprint design of the paper. Does that make sense? The font on the Guy Greetings sentiment did that for me! I inked it up in Lost Lagoon and stamped it on the banner.
I SNAILd the banner to another strip of Perfectly Artistic DSP and then I punched the ends with my Banner Triple Punch. Finally, I SNAILd it to the card front.
For the round elements, I used two of the least-flowerdy Antique Brads that I have in my stash. First I punch two circles from Perfectly Artistic DSP with my 7/8″ Scallop Punch. I stuck the brads thru the circles, and used some Glue Dots and a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere them onto the card front. And that was it! I forced myself to not brush anything with Wink of Stella, or stick any pearls or rhinestones anywhere! 😉
For the inside, I started with a panel of Very Vanilla, and stamped a few Sky is the Limit airplanes across the bottom. The pilot’s giving you all a wing-wag! That’s him saying “‘sup!” to y’all! My Lost Lagoon Stampin’ Write Marker gave his propeller a little color and life.
Then I SNAILd the panel to another piece of Perfectly Artistic DSP.
I SNAILd that into my Basic Black card base and popped the front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals. And the card was done!
For the envelope, I – obviously! – used some more Perfectly Artistic DSP to create a liner for a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, cut with my Envelope Liner Framelits…
…and then I added another plane on the front…..
To do that, I inked the stamp with Crumb Cake ink, stamped it once on the right side of the envelope – and then two more times without re-inking. I touched up the prop with the Lost Lagoon marker, too. Easy peasy!
Et Voila! A birthday card that I think would appeal to any guy! Are you so impressed that I didn’t add any bling? Are you aware of how hard that was for me?!? 😉
Hope you’re having a great week – and looking forward to a greater weekend!

I really like those colors…and the whole plane thing, complete with schematic, is great. I can imagine many occasions and folks for whom it would be perfect!
Love the card Mary! Always good to see ideas for a male card and I especially liked to see how you decorated the inside. Thanks for sharing
