So, yesterday wasn’t Christmas and today doesn’t herald news of a new tiny human joining us on the planet, but….I did Christmas yesterday and I’m doing a Welcome, Tiny Human card today. Don’t ask me why, cause it’s really pretty obvious. I got a big box of goodies on Monday from SU! and inside were (among other things 😉 ) the Kind Koala stamp and the Something For Baby stamp (with the bundled-for-15%-off matching Framelits called Baby’s First). Since they arrived in the same box, I needed to use them together.
That makes sense, right?
Completely logical.
Right?
Well, anyway, I did use them together – and here’s the result. Take a look-see:
The design for the card was inspired by Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #278. Head over there and play, okay?
My card isn’t an EXACT match to the sketch, but it’s where I started and I think it’s pretty close. I wanted to do a gender-neutral card (since it wasn’t made for any specific purpose, I figured it would be good to have a card ready for anything. Not for a new puppy, maybe. That would be weird….). So, I went with the classic gender-neutral colors of yellow and green or, in SU!-speak: Daffodil Delight and Pear Pizzazz! I SNAILd a piece of the Pear Pizzazz paper from the Subtles Backgrounds Designer Series Paper to a mat of Daffodil Delight. Then, I hemmed and hawed about the card base color. Finally decided to keep it simple and have my third color just be white. So, I started work on my sentiment circle. I cut a 3 1/4″ circle with the Circles Collection Framelits and then stamped my new Kind Koala in Memento Black Ink. I touched up his schnoozle and ear-balls with a little Pink Pirouette using my Stampin’ Write Marker. Then I stamped the sentiment from Petite Pairs, also in Memento Black. With that ready to go, I SNAILd it in the right spot on my card front.
I cut a strip of Pear Pizzazz card stock and embossed it using the Happy Heart TIEF. That’s adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals across the card. I made the strip longer than I needed, and then trimmed it to fit with my snips – that’s just easier for me and I think it makes for a tidier end result!
I finished the sketch elements with a 1 1/2″ strip of the new Everyday Chic DSP that I banner-ized with my Banner Triple Punch. Have I mentioned how handy that thing is?!?! Serious. SNAILing the banner under the embossed strip was the next step. I toyed with maybe coloring in a few of the hearts with Daffodil Delight and Pear Pizzazz – but decided to let the black and white work with the sentiment and left it alone.
For the little baby decorations, I used the Something For Baby stamp set. The rubber ducky and the tiny socks are stamped with Daffodil Delight. The other toy – what the heck is that called? I remember seeing them in stores and I probably even played with one, but…name? No clue! I colored it with the Daffodil Delight and Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write markers. Then, after I stamped it, I used my Blender Pens and the cover of my ink pads in the same colors – cause I didn’t get as solid a stamp as I wanted. Then I cut them in the Big Shot using the matching Baby’s First Framelits. They’re adhered with Glue Dots. I did trim the socks with a little Pear Pizzazz with my marker.
Kind Koala karries a kute balloon. See what I did there?!? I decided at the beginning of making my card that I was going to make the balloon go off the circle. My original thought had been to do some masking and stamping in more Memento Black. But, I realized I could make it a lot kuter (I’ll stop now) if I 3-dimensionalized it. So I stamped one of the Petite Petals in Memento Black onto a Daffodil Delight card stock scrap and punched it out with the matching (bundled!) Petite Petal Punch. I also punched a Petite Petal from a piece of Pear Pizzazz (that was too easy). I layered the flowers with a glue dot, and then used a glue dot on the back to wind some Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine.
And then I got ANOTHER idea – I didn’t cut the twine short behind the flower – I let it dangle down as the string. Which I stuck down with the teensiest dots of Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
And THEN….I thought “what if the string kept going all the way to the bottom of the card!??!”. And so it did. Stop the Madness!! 😉
I rounded everything out with a Pearl Basic Jewel in the center of the flower and a few tiny hearts that I punched out with my Hearts Border Punch.
I adhered the completed card front to a piece of the new Thick Whisper White Card Stock, et voila! The card front was done!
The inside is beyond simple. A quick Daffodil Delight ink-and-stamp of the Something For Baby rubber ducky and then the corresponding Tiny Human sentiment from Petite Pairs in Memento Black Ink was all it took!
And that did it! What do you think? Suitably cute and welcoming? I kind of love that Koala!

News about Watercolor Wishes – as predicted, this kit has hit the backorder list. SU! tells us that the quantity they had in stock, estimated to last 13 weeks, sold out in TWO weeks. They did anticipate this, and have ordered massive new quantities, with expedited shipping from overseas, but….there’s no word yet about it’s availability. My suggestion? If you want this kit, get your order in and get in the queue for backorder fulfillment!
Thanks for stopping by – see you tomorrow!
