Stampin’ Up! Happy Tails and Nine Lives for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Hey y’all – it’s Thursday, so it’s time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!!  Today’s a color challenge – and I’m excited to see what everyone comes up with!  I just know you’re going to see a ton of awesome-ness on the hop.

I – sadly – needed a pet sympathy card.  My friend had to put their older kitty, Sam, to sleep earlier this week.  Sam lived with them, because his human Dad had agreed to adopt another kitty – who has turned out to be…less than thrilled with being a sibling.  Definitely needs to be an only child! So…Sam went to live – with my friend.  He saw his Dad a lot, so he was quite happy.  And, he was a very nice boy.

Anywho…I needed a card for his Dad.  I combined the Nine Lives stamp set images with the right sentiments from Happy Tails – then added in some All My Love DSP.  Take a look-see:

Our color challenge this week was a bit of a…challenge!…given that I wanted the card for a man.

The Paper Players did a theme challenge this week – and it fit my card to a T!

I started with some Crumb Cake-based paper from the new All My Love DSP and matted it on Soft Sea Foam for the card front.

On a piece of Whisper White, I stamped the sentiment from Happy Tails in Soft Sea Foam and Lovely Lipstick.  Using my Stamparatus, I inked the word “heart” with my Lovely Lipstick Stampin’ Write Marker and then stamped it.  I cleaned the stamp, inked it with Soft Sea Foam – masked off “heart” with a piece of tape – and stamped the rest of the image.

I inked the little paw print from Happy Tails with Crumb Cake, stamped it off once and stamped it atop the “heart”.  Yea yea – I know.  I did that exact same thing before.  But – it’s just so…perfect!! 🙂

I matted the panel on Soft Sea Foam and adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

The circle element is from the new Wonderful Floral Framelits, cut in Soft Sea Foam.  My friend Sue Prather did a super-cool treatment using Old Olive Linen Thread (see that card right here) and I thought it was so clever that I blatantly copied it! 😉

I wound a long length of Linen Thread three times around the die cut, weaving it thru the slots, just alternating over and under.  Then I adhered the ends on the back with Glue Dots.

I stamped the three-heart image from the new Nine Lives set in Flirty Flamingo, then popped it all onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Now, Sam was a gorgeous Maine Coon.  And I really wanted to get the kitty image from Nine Lives to at least hint at his beautiful coloring.

I first stamped the kitty outline in Sahara Sand.  Then I added the splotches image in stamped-off-once Crumb Cake.  I used my Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend to color in the rest of the kitty – and to add some additional shading.  It’s not perfect, but…I tried!

I punched the kitty with the Cat Punch (annual catalog) and then added it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

Then I tied a Linen Thread double-loop bow and adhered it with a Glue Dot.

Finally, I colored a new Epoxy Heart Droplet with my Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blend and added it to the circle, and the card front was done!

On the inside, I added two sentiments in Soft Sea Foam – the top sentiment is from Nine Lives and the second one is from Happy Tails!  Then I added the Nine Lives hearts in Flirty Flamingo (hey – even MEN expect hearts-on-cards to be pink or red!).

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Soft Sea Foam mat and into my Crumb Cake card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Nine Lives hearts and Happy Tails paws across the front…

…and then I gave the envelope flap a little more All My Love DSP.

Et Voila!  Cats…dogs…carding together!  What will the world come to next??  Both Happy Tails and Nine Lives have great images and sentiments for all the times you need a pet – related card!  And how cool is it that Nine Lives works with the Cat Punch?!?  I hope you like!

  1. Such a sweet card! Love your kitty image, perfect way to use those colors! 🙂

  2. Oh, Mary, I am so sorry for you and your friend. Maine Coons are as beautiful as Tuxedos…especially this one. Sam had such a handsome face and wonderful markings. I’m sure your friend will love your card. It is so thoughtfully created. Your use of the colors is fantastic.

  3. Kate

Beautiful card for the sad need we know too well. I would say you captured handsome Sam’s Maine
Coon-ness and that will please his dad.

Boo, I’m sad for Sam and his dad. We have my late sister’s kitty who still wants to be an only child but she’s learning to live with others. Very pretty card, perfect touches.

  8. These cards are always tricky to make but this set is perfect for pet sympathy Mary and I love how you coloured your cat to ‘personalise’ him, so thoughtful. Thanks for playing along with us over at The Paper Players this week!
