Stampin’ Up! Just Add Color and a Touch of Lemon Zest!

Happy Hawwmp Day, y’all!  We’re in test mode now, so working from the hotel for a few days.  Can’t say I mind – no makeup.  Don’t have to “do” my hair!  I’ve got my computer and good internet, so working is easy (heck – it’s just like being at home!!).  And have a whole desk full of stamp sets and all the goodies.  On top of that, it’s raining steady outside thanks to TS Cindy – so it’s a perfect week to have some “stay home” time!

You guys would be proud of me.  Well – maybe.  Yesterday, to mark the first real day of testing, I bought donuts.  The good kind.  The “maple bacon” kind.  I bought two dozen.

Guess how many I ate?

Yep.

ZERO!!!

I ate yoghurt.  And a banana.  And pretended it was a maple bacon donut.  And relished the fact that I had to go buy smaller jeans on the weekend!

So…when I go on that Stampin’ Up! cruise to Alaska next year…yep, I’ll be thin(ner!).  See?  That’s positive thinking, huh??

But – for now, I think you came for a card, not a diet update! LOL

If you like to color – and who doesn’t?? – then the Just Add Color Specialty DSP that I used today will be right up your alley.  Do you like tea?  Maybe with some lemon?  Well then, my added touches from the Lemon Zest stamp set will be just right.  Take a look-see:

My layout was inspired by the sketch over at CAS(E) This Sketch:

I started by embossing a piece of Whisper White card stock in the new Layered Leaves Dynamic TIEF and then matting it on Melon Mambo card stock.

Next up, I made a little bit of lemon-y “DSP” by stamping the lemon slice image from the Lemon Zest stamp set on another piece of Whisper White.  I stamped the image both full strength and a second time without re-inking.  My sentiment – also from Lemon Zest, is stamped in Melon Mambo.  It’s also matted on Melon Mambo and then popped over the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For my “tea set”, I colored a tea pot and a couple of cups on a piece of the Just Add Color Specialty DSP with my Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Sweet Sugarplum, Flirty Flamingo and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Markers.  Then I fussy cut them and adhered them on the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals and Liquid Glue.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I stamped another Lemon Zest slice twice in Daffodil Delight ink, without re-inking between stamps.

I SNAILd the panel to a Melon Mambo mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more of the lemon slices from Lemon Zest across the front…

…and a virtual Lemon orchard on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Tea for Two!  With lemon, of course, courtesy of the Lemon Zest stamp set.  And adult coloring books are so “in” right now – this Just Add Color is perfectly on-point!  And this isn’t the only design in the set, either.  It’s got a tropical design, an undersea scene, a city scape and a gardening-themed design, too.  Fun fun!  Hope you like!

  1. Great take on the sketch!

  2. Love it! Great use of that new paper, love the clean design. 🙂 And maple bacon is about the only donut that I wouldn’t eat…so I’d have been right there with you eating the yogurt and banana! 🙂

    • Oh my gosh – that’s TWO of you who wouldn’t eat maple and bacon!! Whaaaaaaa?!?!? I’m mystified – it took even single ounce of willpower I possessed! Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  3. Very cozy card…great coloring. I need more practice with markers but you certainly don’t! I would pass on the donuts too but only because I don’t like maple and bacon 🙂 So happy for you that you were able to downsize 😉 Any news about the “hot spot”?

    • The vet was out to see the horses – he didn’t think it was ringworm (although he DID think it was on the pony. :() So he shaved it with his good clippers so that Wayne can treat it easier. It’s on the mend!! as for not liking maple and bacon….hmmmm…… Thanks so much, Karen – this is a fun paper for sure! 🙂

Cool card! I like to color, but not sure I want to color cards. HMM….this makes me re-think that. I like lemons better than limes BTW! 😉

    • LOL! Well, I figured you’d prefer the lemons! I don’t want to color EVERY card I do – but it’s a fun option! And I love the images that are just waiting to be fussy cut and put to work! Thanks, Julie! 🙂

    TEA POTS!!!
    HI Mary,
I’m amazed at how much of your supplies you took with You!
    Love, love, love the card!
Have a good rest of the week and hope to see you on Sunday night.

    • Yea – it’s a little cray cray – but…it’s why I LOVE trips I can drive to! And why I love this hotel chain. They ALL have these great desk areas. And it’s so nice to just have all my stuff. Thanks much, Paula! 🙂

  6. Barb

So cute! Great idea to pair the lemons with a teapot! And I must “weigh in” on the maple bacon donuts…👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻. Love all donuts EXCEPT those. Isn’t that funny?? Sounds like great stamping weather….enjoy!!!

    • Noooooooooo!!!! Not another maple-bacon hater!! What’s the world coming to?!? 😉 Thanks, Barb (even if you’re wrong about the donuts – it appears you’re in good company!!). And it is good weather for stamping!! 🙂

  7. Kathy L

Hi Mary, love your lemony tea card. At first I was totally confused about where the teapot and cups came from, but after trying some heavy thinking (not an easy job!), I figured it out. Whew!
Hope you’re riding out the rain from that TS. And I have to confess I’ve never had a maple bacon donut..but since plain maple donuts are my favorite, and I like bacon, I figure I’d be in with the eat-em-all-up group. Stay safe.

    • Hey Kathy! Thanks so much – I guess I wasn’t too clear on where those little images came from. Sorry! 🙁 I AM glad that someone is finally with me in the maple-bacon donut camp!! 🙂

  8. Mom

Very nice. Wish we could share a cuppa!

  9. donna mikasa

Wonderful take on the sketch and I love that you decorated the envelope too!
