Stampin’ Up! Wood Rose Wonder Sympathy Card

Mornin’, y’all! Hope your day has dawned bright and clear! Had a nice – if incredibly short!! – visit with my friends last night.  The got a late start coming from Florida, ran into a giant traffic accident that lost them a couple of hours, and arrived here at about 730 – having to leave to meet friends at the airport at 830.  So…whirlwind visit indeed.  But still time for the two kids to pet the horses, feed them peppermints, meet Finn (who was gobsmacked and thrilled by the tiny humans at his house!), ride around the back pasture with me on the 4-wheeler and sit in the Bobcat for a while.  And then they were gone! 😔  Hopefully they’ll come back when they can “have 3 sleepovers”.

And waffles for breakfast!

So – my card for today is for a more somber occasion.  Another friend just lost his daughter from complications from COPD.  Same age as I am.  Very sad.  I obviously needed a card to send.   I decided to use the beautiful Rose Wonder stamp set and coordinating Rose Garden Thinlits and I paired them with the Wood Textures DSP.    Take a look-see:

I wanted a card that had a rustic element – they’re horse people like us – but some femininity, too.

I chose a wood pattern in the Wood Textures DSP that has a gray hue to it for my card front.  Using the large die in the Rose Garden Thinlit die set, I cut out my focal point from some Smoky Slate card stock and used Liquid Glue to adhere it to the panel.

Then I repeated the die cut two more times – once from Blushing Bride and once from Powder Pink card stock (avail 1 June).  Using various pieces of the die cut, I adhered them into the large flower with little dabs of Liquid Glue.

I used one of the sentiments in the Rose Wonder stamp set and stamped it in Basic Black Archival Ink in the corner of the panel and SNAILd it to a piece of Powder Pink card stock.  Now – full disclosure here.  I’m not exactly sure where my brain was – but I cut the panel to 4 7/8″ long (instead of 5 1/8″) – and didn’t realize it until right at this point in the construction of the card! 😳

I decided that, instead of starting completely over, I’d….call an audible.  Which means I made my card base a little smaller than normal.  So it’s like A2-lite sized!

On the inside, I stamped a second Rose Wonder sentiment in Basic Black Archival Ink on a Whisper White panel.  Over that, I added the small flower from Rose Wonder in stamped-off-once Powder Pink ink (avail 1 June).  You can barely see it in the picture!

I SNAILd the panel to a Powder Pink mat and into my Smoky Slate card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a few more of the Rose Wonder flowers in full-strength Powder Pink ink on the front…

…and I used a little more of the Wood Textures DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Pretty quick and easy – more persnickety than anything, with the paper-piecing of the rose.  But worth it, I think, for the pretty result.  I love the rose against the woodgrain!!  I see a great year with this Wood Textures DSP Stack!!  Hope you like! 😊

Finn-Fan Fix…

Okay, y’all.  I’m going to show you a picture.

Please do not be afraid.

This is my new dog.

Cujo.

Right??  Scary as can be, isn’t he?

Of course, he’s smiling!  It’s something he (and his sister, actually.  And his mother!!) just…do!  It’s a submissive gesture.

But I was spot on with the camera, and…Cujo!!

Pretty good for an iPhone, huh?!? 🙂

He was so excited to see them.  We did keep him on the leash for a bit, cuz he outweighs both of the tiny humans and we feared in his exuberance (and desire to herd them around!) that he’d knock them down.

Once he chilled a little, we let him loose.

He likes tiny humans!!  They pick up sticks!!  And they RUN all over the place (moms don’t run around near enough)!!!  He had a big time and was sad when they left.

He’s conked out now while I’m writing.

Herding kids is hard work!  Almost as hard as herding cats!
