Stampin’ Up! Swirly Bird Goes Window Shopping

Good Saturday morning, y’all!  Hope you have a long weekend and perfect weather – like we do!  It’s just over 70 here and it’s not getting very cold at night, either.  My girls are a bit sweaty around the edges – and wishing the cold would come back.  But their parents are tickled to death – windows open in January!  Yes, ma’am!

In light of the pretty day – Finny had a play date yesterday with his friend Scout.  On this day, Scout came here for the party.  Once they were both loose, they started racing around like little twin dervishes.  Under the fence they went and ….splash!  Crossing the creek that runs down into the pond.  Galloped around the pond twice at full speed.  And then…

SppppaaalOOOOSh!

…Scout decided to have a cool-off in the pond.  Finn didn’t know what to make of that.  He waded in a little ways, but…not going all the way. Nope.  Not gonna do it.

But, folks – it’s really only a matter of time.  I give it a few more warm days and he’s going to be out in the pond himself. I’ve watched him the last couple of days going a bit further in each time.  He’s going to be a swimmer! 🙂

Now – my card has nothing to do with swimming.  I made a card today that would be great to give to a good guy-friend.  Or  – we’ve all got a female friend who gets a little pale if a dress is mentioned, or lace shows up anywhere.  I used some Urban Underground DSP, a little Swirly Scribbles and a bold sentiment from the Window Shopping stamp set.  Take a look-see:

My layout is a result of the sketch challenge at TGIF Challenges this week.

And the kind of…unusual?…color scheme is from the Color Throwdown challenge.

I started by SNAILing a piece of Delightful Dijon paper from the Urban Underground Specialty DSP to a Basic Black mat.  Over that, I adhered another piece of the DSP – also matted on Basic Black.
Next up is a Swirly Bird die cut in Marina Mist, adhered with some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

The sentiment, from Window Shopping, was stamped in stages.  First I stamped the “Thanks” in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Next came “Friend” on a Very Vanilla square.  I did all this with my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and sticky note masks.  Then I matted the square on Basic Black.

The middle portion of the sentiment is stamped in Marina Mist on a strip of Very Vanilla.  Then I used the little odd-looking die in the Window Box Thinlits to make the 3-D banner.  I edged the banner with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.  To adhere it to the sentiment, I used Liquid Glue under the ends and a Stampin’ Dimensional under the middle portion.

I popped the sentiment onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and added two small Marina Mist Enamel Shapes to balance the Swirly Scribbles die cut.  And that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I used several more strips of the Urban Underground DSP, matted on Basic Black, and adhered to a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.

I SNAILd the panel to a Basic Black mat and into my Marina Mist card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

For my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, I added some Swirly Bird swirls in Marina Mist across the front…

…and added more Urban Underground DSP to the envelope flap.  I used a large piece of the black design, then a smaller piece of Delightful Dijon.  And finally an even smaller piece of the Delightful Dijon.  They’re all adhered with Liquid Glue and then trimmed with my Paper Snips.

Et Voila!  For a man or a frill-hating woman, I think this fun little card from Window Shopping and Swirly Bird is a great one to tell someone how much you appreciate them!  Hope you like!
