Stampin’ Up! Window Box Thinlits Sneak Peek!

Before I get going… I need to say… A great icon has joined his brothers on the other side.  Godspeed, John Glenn, Godspeed. 🙁

Mornin’, y’all – the end of the week approacheth!  And so does Christmas!  Oh.  My.  Goodness!  Can’t believe it! Ain’t ready for it!  No way – no how.

I don’t even have my tree up.  Which is way late for me!

I confess I might – might – be a little worried about the fate of the tree and any ornaments at Aussie nose height (which is getting higher all the time!).  It’s going to be a trick this year!

Speaking of Christmas – check out my Christmas cactus.  It’s looking beutimous this year!

Finn cares not a lick about the cactus – other than enjoying the feeling of dining al fresco.  His only interaction with it is when he’s chasing a soda bottle around the kitchen and he slams into the table it’s sitting on.  Which is tall.  And sort of wobbly.  And going to come a cropper one of these days, I fear!

Yesterday, though, he was being a very good boy.  He helpfully picked up the scraps of card stock and DSP scattered under my table and then laid down right under my feet.  Cuz that’s handy!  Makes it a little difficult to roll to my Big Shot and cutter, don’tcha know?
But – we’re making progress towards my dream of having my loving dog sleeping peacefully at my feet while I make cards! 🙂

Yes, he’s resting his head on the cord going to my light.  Like a cord-mmok.  I don’t know why.  But he was quiet and not meddling so….who am I to judge?? 🙂

Speaking of cards, I didn’t make one for you today!

I made a box, instead – using the soon-to-be-available Window Box Thinlits!  Remember a few weeks ago I made this wedding card?

It used the 2017 Occasions Falling In Love DSP and Love Notes Framelits and the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits from the Annual Catalog.

Using the Window Box Thinlits, more Falling in Love DSP and a second sentiment from Sunshine Wishes, I made a coordinating box.  Take a look-see:

These Thinlits are really cool – and will let you do all sorts of fun things – especially when you combine them with the bundled Window Shopping stamp set.  When I got my Thinlits, I just jumped in and started trying to make a box.  I got two of the box pieces cut out – I knew that much! – and then I was sort of stymied.  So I went out and found the Stampin’ Up! video.  Let me help you out.  Here’s the video.  Watch it before you make your first cut.  Trust me on this! 🙂

So, after watching the video, I started my “real” box (the first one was practice!).  So, I cut the two basic box pieces from Very Vanilla.

My practice box taught me a trick – when you pick which piece to cut the excess tabs from (per the video!0, cut them from your bottom piece!

Once I’d identified the top, I ran that piece back thru the Big Shot with the floral hexagonal die in place.  I also ran it thru with the square floral hearts design die – cutting two panels.  As the video showed – I turned the die upside down and cut a single square panel in the bottom piece.

I knew I wanted to put something behind the cut-outs, but I wanted the inside of the box to look pretty, too.  So…I took a piece of the same Falling in Love paper that I’d used on the card, and adhered both box pieces to it with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  Then I trimmed off all the excess.  This completely lined the box, making the inside just as pretty as the outside!

At that point, I just put the box together like Donna showed us in the Stampin’ Up! video.  I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere everything.  That gave me time to be sure everything was lined up and in place.

With my box together, I made a topper.  I cut a piece of Vellum Card Stock with the main box die, and trimmed up just the top hexagon.  Then I cut 3/4″ from both sides to make a piece to place on top.  I adhered that to another piece of Falling in Love DSP, using my Fine-Tip Glue Pen – and only putting glue where I knew I was going to have embellishment on top, to hide the glue.

The sentiment is cut from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits – one from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and two from Soft Sky card stock.  Using Liquid Glue, I adhered them all in a stack.

I ran a piece of Very Vanilla 1/2″ Lace Trim across my top strip, adhering it with the Fine-Tip Glue Pen and trimming the edges.  Over that I added the stacked up sentiment with Liquid Glue.

I popped the finished sentiment strip onto the box top with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals on the ends of the strip.

To help keep the box closed and to finish it off, I ran another strip of the Very Vanilla 1/2″ Lace Trim around the box – running it under the top strip.  On the bottom, I used a little dab of Liquid Glue to adhere the lace to the box.  I tied the trim on the top and added a Falling in Love Embellishment with a Glue Dot.

Just cuz I could, I heat embossed a tiny sentiment from the matching Window Shopping stamp set in Copper on a piece of Very Vanilla and cut it out with the little tag die in the Window Box Thinlits.  I used a little bit of Liquid Glue and adhered it over the trim on the bottom of the box.  Finally, I added a Rhinestone Basic Embellishment to the tag to finish it off.

Et Voila!  I love how the card and the box coordinate – and I love love love this Window Box Thinlits die set!  I hope you like – and that you’ve put this on your “must have” list! 🙂

If you keep giving us sneak peeks as beautiful as this one, I will probably have to want everything in the catalog before it even comes out!!! Love the box, which is a gift in itself. I made some jewelry for my girls and would love to have this box to put them in for Christmas!!

    • I surely understand the predicament, Julie. Why do you think I’m a Demonstrator?!? LOL. Sign up! Get this set in your Starter Kit and have them in time for Christmas! Thanks, Julie! 🙂

  5. Elisha

Oh my goodness! What a gorgeous set-a real keepsake! Love it! And your Christmas cactus is beautiful too! I just put my tree up yesterday – it’s fluffed and has its lights on – today the ornaments- when the two 80lb. dogs come for Christmas (both with wagging tails) we’ll see how long it lasts lol!

    • Ruh-roh! The tree may just faint and get it over with! At least a giant wagging tail isn’t an issue with Finn. His mouth is plenty dangerous enough! Thanks so much, Elisha! 🙂

  6. Mom

    Dining al fresco…LOL!
    RIP. John Glenn.
Wee box very pretty in its near-origami-ness.

  7. Ellie Peckler

  8. Just a beautiful accompaniment to your lovely card! So, nice, Mary! Lots of pretty details, too!
