Stampin’ Up! Large Letters Outdoor Adventure

Mornin’, y’all – how’s your week going?  I’ve seen some things from folk around the country making me think – enviously! – that Fall is happening somewhere!  If that’s you – congratulations.  We’re still waiting.

I have a friend (yes, I really do!) who was my “rock” on all my adventures in California.  Without him, everything I was able to accomplish there…well.  Wouldn’t have happened!  He was a work acquaintance who rapidly turned into a good friend.  He’s the guy who brought tomato bags and plants and we planted tomatoes when I was there in the summer – cuz he knew I was missing my garden.

He mailed me cheese curds from WI – cuz he knows I like them.

He sends me links to stuff he knows I’ll be interested in.

He retired.  For real.  Oh – he’d threatened it before, but…like me…just never pulled the trigger.

Well – the trigger is pulled, the chamber is empty and he’s gone!  Moved to his log house on a lake in Wisconsin.

I’m trying to be happy for him.  Actually, I really am happy for him.  He worked hard and long and it was time for him to reap the benefit.

But…unless I pull my own trigger, I’ll be right back there in CA in a couple of years, without his help or his friendship.

So – my happiness is qualified by my selfish wish that everything would just stay the same, dang it! 😉  Cuz it’s going to be really hard without him.  And nothing will be the same there, ever again. 🙁

He arrived in his new spot this week – in fact today his furniture should be arriving!  I’m sending him a welcome home card.  I made it with the Large Letters Framelits, and some images from the Always an Adventure stamp set.  Take a look-see:

The design of this one is loosely based on the sketch from The Paper Players.  Sketch #314:

pp-314-sketch
Obviously, I turned it on its side…

I started with a piece of Serene Scenery DSP.  To decorate it, I first cut two pieces of Warmth & Cheer plaid DSP with the Outdoor Adventure thinlits.  Then I layered them at the bottom of the card with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  I did snip one of the trees and move it over to the far left and adhere it by itself, just to even things out!

Across the top, I used the little “welcome” sentiment from the Live, Love, Grow stamp set, and stamped it all over in Island Indigo.

And screwed up two of the stamps.

Time to regroup.  I was further along than I like to be to start over, so….

Clouds!  Clouds would be good.  I stamped some Always an Adventure clouds in Island Indigo on Soft Sky card stock and cut them with their matching dies in Outdoor Adventure.  Then I adhered them across the “sky” with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, making sure I covered up my boo-boo’s! 🙂

The sentiment is cut from Island Indigo card stock, using the bold Large Letters Framelits.  The plain letters were a little boring, and they had to overlap, so I needed something to help them stand out from one another.  Enter…the Woodgrain TIEF.  I ran the letters thru in the TIEF – turning the “O” and the “E” so that they….wait for it….went against the grain of the “H”, “M” and “!”.

LOL

I just cwack myself up sometimes!

Anywho – then I adhered them to the card front.  The “H” and the “M” and the “!” I stuck directly to the card front with Liquid Glue.

The “O” and the “E” are popped up with Dimensionals.  You can also see that I offset them down just a tad….

I wrapped a length of Garden Green Baker’s Twine (Baker’s Twine Trio pack in the Holiday Catalog) and one of Linen Thread around the bottom of the panel, securing them in the back with scotch tape.  Then I used a couple of Glue Dots to stick down two Mini Pinecones.  Finally, I tied a little bow with the baker’s twine and the Linen Thread, and adhered it over the top with a dab of Liquid Glue!

Then I SNAILd the whole panel to a Daffodil Delight mat and the card front was done!

For the inside, I cut another piece of the plaid Warmth & Cheer DSP with the Outdoor Adventure Framelit, and adhered it across the bottom of a Whisper White panel with some Liquid Glue.  Then I added some more Always an Adventure clouds in Island Indigo across the top.

I SNAILd it to a Daffodil Delight mat and into my Island Indigo card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a few trees from the Always an Adventure set in Garden Green across the front (some are stamped off once) and some Island Indigo clouds…

…and added one last little piece of plaid Warmth & Cheer DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I like how all the elements came together on this one – sort of pulled from here and from there and from this and that and the other!!  I think it’ll make him smile when he gets it.  Hope you like! 🙂
