Stampin’ Up! Jar of Love Thanks

Hey, y’all!  Happy weekend – I hope you’re getting ready to do something fun.

Like….go see the new Star Trek movie?? 😉  I think (think!) I’m going to wait until I get home next weekend and go see it with Wayne.   But – there’s nothing that says I can’t see it twice, right?!? 😉

I’ve got a little card here today that I made with the Jar of Love stamp set.  Which I think is awesome.

Except for one image/sentiment.  And that one is a little…problematic.

At least it is for a woman living in the South.

Do you know which one I mean?

“Bless Your Heart”.

Now….in parts of the world above the Mason-Dixon line and west of the mighty Mississippi – that’s a very nice way to show your appreciation for someone.

Not so much down this-a-way!  Down here…it’s kind of what we say instead of….well.  You know!

So – what do I do?  I want to use that sentiment – I really like it (the face-value meaning, not the South’s double meaning!).  But…what if I inadvertently sent it to someone who knows what that means in the south??  Will they think I’m telling them to…well.  You know.

Whatcha think?? 🙂

Needless to say, I didn’t use that one in today’s card.  Take a look-see:

I played along with three – yes three! – challenges on this one.  The first, Freshly Made Sketches #246, helped me out with the layout.

The second one gave me my color Palette.  Take a look at Colour Q #351:

The final challenge cemented my plan to use the Everyday Jars Framelits.  TGIFC #65 invited us to cut something – either with a die or fussy cut:

Now – I gotta tell you.  This card bamboozled me.  I have no idea why, but it and I fought from the git to the go!  I couldn’t make anything work like it was supposed to,  it took me forever to have the end result jell in my noggin, and I kind of messed the heck out of it and wasted a bunch of paper! 🙁

But, in the end, I won the card-making battle! So – I’ll give you the steps and then you go forth and do it – but you don’t need to feel obligated to make the same mistakes I did, okay?

I started by embossing a panel of Whisper White card stock in the Brick Wall TIEF.  In my head, I wanted to scatter a bunch of the littlest flowers in Jar of Love across the panel and then emboss it.  I wanted them to be very light – just “barely there”.  So I inked the little flower up with Rich Razzleberry, stamped it off 4 times on my scrap paper, and stamped my panel.  Hmmm.  Well…okay.  Did it again.  And again.  But the more I stamped the worse the images got.  So I started on the back.

And when I got to where I hated that side…I tossed that panel and tried again.

Same result.

So I gave up and decided that a Freshly Made Sketches card would have lots of white space anyway.  That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

After I embossed it in the Brick Wall TIEF, I SNAILd it to a Bermuda Bay card stock panel.

For my jar, I used the medium sized jar image in Jar of Love – inking it in Bermuda Bay and stamping it off once before I stamped it on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Then I cut it with the matching die in the Everyday Jars Framelits.

I used some Gold for the handle – inking the image in Versamark and stamping it on Whisper White.  Then I sprinkled it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.  I cut it, too, with its matching Everyday Jars Framelits die.  While I had the embossing stuff out, I inked the burlap ribbon image in Versamark and stamped it across the jar, then heat embossed it in Gold.

I glued the embossed handle to the jar with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue and then popped the whole thing on my card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Make sure you get some little pieces under that handle!

My flowers are also from the Jar of Love stamp set.  I stamped some in Rich Razzleberry, some in Bermuda Bay and a few in Night of Navy.  Except for the little tiny flower, these are all two-step stamps.  I varied the colors by stamping off one or two times on the large (step 1) image and then stamping off one less time for the second step image.  All of them are cut with matching dies from Everyday Jars.  How handy is that – no fussy cutting anywhere to be found on this one! 🙂

I stamped the Jar of Love sentiment in Night of Navy on some Whisper White and punched it out with the new Classic Label Punch and edged it with my Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ Write Marker.  And then it was time to arrange my flowers!

I used my handy stylus on the backs of all the flowers and then, using Stampin’ Dimensionals and Liquid Glue, arranged them on the jar and the handle.  The sentiment is popped into the arrangement with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I added a pretty bow – made with four lengths of Gold Metallic Thread! – with a little dab of Liquid Glue.  To finish it all off, I added a small Rhinestone Basic Jewel to my flowers, and the card front was done!

For the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Jar of Love in Night of Navy on a Whisper White panel.  Then I added more of the flowers in Rich Razzleberry, Bermuda Bay and Night of Navy.  I had a few flowers leftover from cutting them for the front, so I added them over my stamped flowers with a little Liquid Glue.

I SNAILd the liner to a Bermuda Bay mat and then into my Night of Navy card base.  I’d hoped to use Rich Razzleberry, but….I didn’t bring any of it with me!  I had one piece in my scrap folder that was big enough, and I thought I was good to go.  Which I was.  Right until I trimmed 1/8″ off of the already-the-right-size piece of it.  So…I dropped back to the Night of Navy.  See?  I told you this one bamboozled me! 🙂

I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was….not done!  I stuck it on the wrong side of the card front.

Well, Bless My Heart…. 🙁

So – had to pull it all up (use your bone folder to slide under your panels – carefully!) and make a new card base.

And then the card was actually done!

By this point, I was really worried about how much I’d screw up doing the envelope.  I could see a Whisper White Medium Envelope going right into the circular file….but I got lucky!  I added more two-step flowers and some little bitty ones on the front…

…and some Bermuda Bay tiny flowers on the envelope flap – some full strength and some stamped one more time without re-inking.

Et Voila!  I really like how it turned out – even if it did take me a few tries!  The Jar of Love and Everyday Jars Framelits are an awful lot of fun – with so many different images and matching dies.  And how many stamp sets have flowers….and fish? 😉  Hope you like!
