Stampin’ Up! Detailed Floral Phrases Thanks!

Hello Monday and welcome to another week of card-making fun!  Oh – and work.  Always work!  Is it really any wonder that’s a four-letter word?? 😉

I hope that you all got your hubbys/dads/grand-dads suitably feted yesterday – we went and had dinner with our friends and it was a lot of fun.  We got to meet their newest addition – Jax – who is a son of their lovely lab Luke.  I know he was named as a tribute to his grand-dad, Black Jack – so it’s nice that they’re on their third generation of a really nice line of dogs.  He’s a chip off the ole block, for sure – quiet and calm.  Smart as a whip! And, of course – he’s as cute as he can be!!

Now that you’re filled with “awwwwww” – let’s talk cards!  Today’s card looks like I spent hours.  And hours!  But that’s the beauty of this fun new Thinlit – the Detailed Floral Thinlits.  Just three pieces in the set and bing-badda-boom!  Instant wow!  And so many things you can do.  For this one today, I combined two of the dies with a sentiment from the coordinating stamp set called Floral Phrases – and added in a pretty paper design from the Serene Scenery DSP stack.  Take a look-see:

I started by running a panel of Pool Party card stock thru my Big Shot with two of the large dies from the Detailed Floral Thinlits set in place on the panel.  Now.  I don’t have the Precision Plate and I’m not sure that I’ll get it.  I will, however, be getting the new Big Shot Platform (item #142802, on page 190 of the new catalog).  It’s been re-designed (beyond the removal of the old tab system) to help the Big Shot cut evenly across the entire rolling surface.

Big Shot Education time-out:  All Big Shots tend to cut better on the edges – where the rollers lay.  So – that’s why sometimes you’ll see that thinlits or framelits perhaps don’t get cut quite as well in the middle.  Well, the new Platform has a slightly convex center, applying a little bit more pressure in the middle – and thus helping to cut all your dies more evenly.  Will be especially useful for these detailed sets.

Big Shot Education time-out complete!

Anywho – I had no issues getting my cut paper out of the die or getting all the little pieces out (I did run it back and forth several times – full disclosure!).  Once I had it all out, I stamped the sentiment from Floral Phrases in the center of the panel – left conveniently untouched!  I stamped it in Island Indigo.

I used some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the pretty panel to a piece of the Serene Scenery DSP Stack – the one that looks like cirrus clouds in a dark blue sky.  And then I added just a few small Pearl Basic Jewels to the panel and the card front was done!

On the inside, I used a piece of Whisper White card stock and SNAILd it to a Pool Party mat.  Then I used a piece of card stock that I had from a previous card cutting excursion and used it as a stencil.  I taped the stencil in place with Sticky Note Tape and lightly sponged the rose with Pool Party Ink – then a little Island Indigo in the center.

I SNAILd that into my Island Indigo card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

I repeated my Detailed Floral Thinlits rose stencil on the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope – this time I tried highlighting all the pieces and parts by outlining them with my Island Indigo Stampin’ Write Marker.  Different, but I kind of like how it turned out – I may do the same to the inside stencil before I mail it.  You tell me – which do you like better?  With…or without the outlining??

…and I used a second design from the Serene Scenery DSP Stack to make a custom Envelope Flap (note to self: buy another stack of this pretty paper post haste!!).

Et Voila!  This gorgeous thinlit set reminds me of Scherenschnitte – literally “scissor cuts” in German – done by folk with truly mad fussy cutting skills.  So….I get to reap the reward with none of the work!  Yup – my kind of crafting! 🙂

A cool feature of this Thinlit set is the third – and smallest – of the dies.  See it there in the middle?

Detailed_Floral-85

When you add it to a piece of card stock – with or without one of the other dies – it cuts the card stock all the way across (unlike these that I used today).  And it gives you a beautiful edge – mimicking the edges of the large dies.  Like this card (that you can see on page 76 of your catalog!) – which used all three dies in the set!
