Good morning – I hope that you’re enjoying your week! It’s almost over. Be brave!
This weekend, my best friend is getting married in Nebraska. My hubs and I aren’t going to be able to get there for it – and I’m sad about that. But, it is what it is, and I know she understands why. As a consolation prize, I’ve made her a batch of chocolate dipped Espresso Chocolate Chip Biscotti. Which she asks me for every time I see or talk to her! Their wedding invitation said “No Gifts” (this is a second marriage for them both) but I figure cookies isn’t really a gift….right? 😉
And – of course, I made her a wedding card!
I used the pretty wedding-oriented stamp set called For the New Two and a little Timeless Textures. And First Sight, also from the Occasions catalog. Take a look-see:
This is a color scheme that doesn’t seem like it ought to work, and yet it really really does! Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Sahara Sand and Perfect Plum. Sahara Sand??? Whaaaaaaaat? Yep.
I played along with the Stamp, Ink, Paper Challenge #41, which was a theme challenge this week. And the theme was…Weddings!
I first made my little squares – cutting three pieces of Sahara Sand and matting them on Perfect Plum. Then I stamped the heart image from First Sight, in Perfect Plum, on all three.
I made the card front by inking the filigree image from Timeless Textures (please, Stampin’ Up!, please bring this one back!!) with Versamark Ink and stamping it all over a Smoky Slate card stock panel. Which I then SNAILd to a Perfect Plum mat.
The sentiment is from the For the New Two stamp set. I stamped it in Perfect Plum on Sahara Sand and then punched both ends with the Ornate Tag Topper Punch. I made its mat by cutting a slightly wider piece of Perfect Plum and punching it with the Ornate Tag Topper as well. Then I SNAILd the two tags together.
To assemble the card front, I wrapped a piece of Sahara Sand 7/8″ Lace Trim around the matted card front, securing it in the back with scotch tape. Over that I adhered a Gold Metallic Foil Doily with a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. I secured the sentiment tag over the doily by running Linen Thread thru the holes in both ends of the tag and wrapping them around the card front. I did three wraps, spreading each one out in a fan, and then secured the ends in back with more tape.
I secured the top-most stamped and matted square to the card front with SNAIL. The next two are adhered with a combination of SNAIL and Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the card, and a Botanical Garden Jewel to the sentiment tag (with Glue Dots), and the card front was done! 🙂
For the inside liner, I used another piece of Smoky Slate, and stamped the filigree image from Timeless Textures in Versamark across the bottom of the panel. I added the First Sight heart in Versamark at the top. In between, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line up and stamp the sentiment from For the New Two in Perfect Plum.
I love how the filigree image looks in Veramark on this pretty Smoky Slate card stock – I think it looks like brocade, don’t you? 🙂 I matted the panel on Perfect Plum and then SNAILd it into a Basic Gray card base. Then I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.
For the envelope, I started with a Whisper White Medium Envelope and stamped the First Sight heart twice on the front in Perfect Plum….
…and added a liner from a Perfect Plum design from the Regals DSP Stack, cut with my Envelope Liner Framelits.
Et Voila! A beautiful and elegant wedding card that anyone should love to receive! Easily made with the right tools, yes?
Only one thing.
It’s completely and totally wrong for my friend! Absolutely. Completely. Wrong.
It’s lovely. I would love to get it. But a card should reflect the recipient as much – or more – than it reflects the sender. At least I think so!
So. This one is going in the stash, to be pulled out for a more “right” recipient. I made a whole ‘nuther card – lots of the same elements, but much more “her” – for the bride-to-be-this-Saturday.
Tomorrow’s Happy Stampers Blog Hop Day – being Thursday – and I’ll share with you the card that really is right for my friend! 🙂 Hope you’ll come back.
