Stampin’ Up! The Wilderness Awaits In The Meadow!

So – I love when someone asks me to make a card for them to give to someone special.  For me, it means that they really care enough to not want a cookie-cutter card from the grocery store aisle.  And that’s cool.  I also really like it – a lot! – when that request gives me an excuse to buy a new goody!  Like the card I have to share with you today.

My friend has a friend who’s been in the hospital – in and out – for the past several weeks.  A long time!  He’s a “dog guy” – I made the leap that he’s a “hunting dog guy” – since those are a lot of the kinds of folks she knows.  So she wanted a card with a dog and the outdoors.

Sadly – I had yet to purchase the The Wilderness Awaits stamp set.  I’ve been so busy acquiring Occasions catalog sets and bundles that I kept pushing that down my list.  So now was the perfect opportunity!  Once it arrived, I paired it with the In the Meadow set – which did come from the Occasions catalog and I very much hope makes it into the next Annual!  I added a few of the great sentiments from Greatest Greetings and….take a look-see:

This card also showcases two of my favorite 2014-2016 In Colors – Blackberry Bliss and Mossy Meadow!  They’re such wonderful colors for a quiet, woodsy “guy” card, aren’t they?  I’ll sure miss them when they’re gone….

I started with a panel of Crumb Cake card stock.  I laid in the mountains from In The Meadow first.  Before starting on the card, I made a mask – stamping the image on a sticky note (near the top so the sticky part would still be there once I cut it out) and then cutting out the top outline.

When my mask was ready, I first stamped the mountains in full-strength Early Espresso on the card front.  Then I laid my mask over that image and stamped two more times without re-inking.  Instant mountain range!

In front of the mountains, I stamped the pointing dog image from The Wilderness Awaits in Chocolate Chip ink.  I used my Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker to color the grassy ground at his feet.  And a little Hello Honey Marker to just barely touch the shading marks on the dog’s body.  Just wanted to give the impression that he’s a golden dog!

I went back to the In The Meadow set, and stamped one image – in Mossy Meadow – of the tree on the left side and then stamped it again without re-inking on the right side – letting the image fall off the panel.  Finally, I stamped some Mossy Meadow grasses all over – using the image from In The Meadow.

I used my watercolor-designated Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to add some Pool Party and Soft Sky horizontal streaks in the sky and some Mossy Meadow vertical streaks in the “grass” between the dog and the mountains.  And that finished off the picture!

I very lightly sponged the edges of the panel with some Soft Suede ink and moved on to the ribbon and sentiment.

The first part of the sentiment embellishment is Gold Metallic Thread – I just wound a few loops and lightly adhered the left side of the loops to the card front with a little bit of Liquid Glue.  Next, I laid a length of Blackberry Bliss 5/8″ Striped Cotton Ribbon across the lower part of the panel over the metallic thread loops – just securing it in the back with some scotch tape.

The sentiment, from Greatest Greetings, is stamped on a strip of Very Vanilla card stock, in Mossy Meadow.  I cut both ends with the Washi Label Punch, edged it with my Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Write Marker, and lightly sponged it with Soft Suede.  Then I stuck it to the card front, thru the ribbon, with an Antique Brad.  I used my 1/16″ Circle Handheld Punch to make a starter hole for the brad.

Then I SNAILd the panel to a Blackberry Bliss mat and the card front was done!

On the inside, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line-up and stamp two more sentiments from Greatest Greetings, both in Mossy Meadow, on another Crumb Cake panel.  I love the font on this stamp set! 🙂  Then I added the landing duck image from The Wilderness Awaits – I stamped it in Mossy Meadow.  Then I lightly embellished the duck with my Stampin’ Write Markers.  I used Mossy Meadow on the grasses, Night of Navy on the waterline, a little Soft Suede on his belly and wings, and a touch more Mossy Meadow on his head.  Finally, I used my White Stampin’ Chalk Marker to every-so-gently touch the ring around his neck.  I sponged the edges of the panel with a little more Soft Suede and SNAILd it to it’s Blackberry Bliss mat.

The card front is popped on with Stampin’ Dimensionals to finish off the card!

For the envelope, I used a Crumb Cake Medium Envelope and just stamped a few grass images from In The Meadow in Mossy Meadow on the front…

And added a liner cut with my Envelope Liner Framelits from a piece of Blackberry Bliss design paper in the 2014-2016 Designer Series Paper Stack.

Et Voila!  A great guy card – not froofy, no bling (my Clear Wink barely adds a shine – just the tiniest bit and not at all “girly”!), no frills – but darned attractive (see – didn’t even say “pretty”!).  Just another reason to grab ahold of as much of these great colors as you can before they leave us!  And – The Wilderness Awaits.  Oh, yes – a must have stamp set!  😉

Enjoy your Saturday and I’ll be back with an Easter Card tomorrow.
