Stampin’ Up! Get Well Melon Mambo Soup!

Well, it’s happened again.  Monday!  Back to work…

It was a most beauteous weekend – Wayne’s got 3 of the 4 veggie beds done.  We opened windows and enjoyed the warm day – right up until some neighbor decided to burn last Fall’s leaves! 🙁

And I made some cards!  One of them is ready to hit the mail at the very next sign of a flu outbreak!  Or just someone having a case of ADR.  That’s vet-speak for Ain’t Doin’ Right!  But it could surely be

…wait.  On the tv right now is a lady who own 55,000 pairs of salt and pepper shakers!  That’s 110,000 shakers (you’re welcome).  Oh.  My.  Lord!  Her husband has built lighted glass-front cabinets all over their house.  And he’s added more house to put cabinets more in.  Makes me tired just looking at it.

…sorry.  Anyway.  ADR.  Usually a diagnosis for animals – but could also be applied to people, yes?  So – if you know someone who’s got a little ADR or even something more concrete, take a look at Get Well Soup!  This is an ala carte (one stamp) stamp in the Annual Catalog.  I used a little It’s My Party DSP to jazz it up.  Take a look-see:

Now – this is a great stamp to make a quick and easy-peasy get well card.  Just stamp – color (with a Wink of Stella maybe??) – and send.  Or…you can step it up just a notch with a quick and easy technique called paper piecing.  I saw a post from Dawn Olchefske the other day where she’d done some paper piecing with this set.  Which reminded me that I’d done it once before and had planned to do it again.  You can see that first card here – that time I made it into Ice Cream – not soup!

So – here’s how I did this one.  I used a Whisper White Note Card and its matching envelope.  For the card front, I took a smaller panel of Whisper White and punched the corners with my 1/2″ Circle Punch (not a lot of over-thinking, just kind of lined them up and punched!).  Then I matted it on a panel of Melon Mambo card stock.

To make the center art, I stamped the Get Well Soup image in Basic Black Archival Ink.  I stamped it three more times – once on a piece of Melon Mambo card stock, once on a piece of Crushed Curry Regals DSP Stack paper (the one with the flowers), and once on a Melon Mambo design from It’s My Party DSP.

To paper piece, you cut various parts of the image from different papers and re-assemble them over the main image.  So…for this card, I fussy cut the soup bowl from the star-covered piece of It’s My Party DSP.

I cut the back of the bowl from the Melon Mambo card stock stamped image – and the “soup” from the Crushed Curry.  I thought the Crushed Curry and flowers looked a little like Chicken and Stars soup! 😉

Then I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to re-assemble the soup bowl on the image that I’d stamped on the Whisper White card front.  The Liquid Glue gave me a few moments to ensure I had everything lined up – the spoon and the little “steam” flourishes, specifically.  And that was really all there was to it! 🙂

I added a Melon Mambo 7/8″ Scallop Circle over the black heart on the soup bowl with Liquid Glue – and then popped a Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper heart (from the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack) over that with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Oh, and I colored the little hearts on the spoon with my Melon Mambo Stampin’ Write marker.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I used my Hearts Border punch to make a line of little hearts on a strip of Melon Mambo card stock and then used some Multi-Puprose Liquid Glue to adhere it to another panel of Whisper White.  Then I matted it on Melon Mambo and thence into my Whisper White Note Card.

I added the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and that was it.

For the matching envelope, I added a Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper heart – cut with my Sweetheart Punch – and edged in Melon Mambo, as well as a few of the hearts that resulted when I cut the inner liner strip…

…and then I added a liner with another piece of the It’s My Party DSP that I cut with the medium-sized Envelope Liner Framelit!

Et Voila!  Get Well Soup – make it simple or notch it up a little!  I think this is a fun, cheery card – and just about the only way to mail chicken soup to a sick friend! 🙂  It’s a great stamp to have in your tool box.

And speaking of great stamps for your tool box….

  1. What a cute card Mary! Love the paper piecing technique with the image, perfect! 🙂

  2. Too, too, cute! And I may have a case of ADR all the time! 🙂

  3. Mom

Perfect to accompany an offering of chicken soup for someone ADR. Or, yes, even ice cream. Do spare me the cases of salt and pepper shakers, but I could use some specialized book and yarn spots.
