Stampin’ Up! Sweetbriar Rose Just a Note

Do you ever have one of those days where it seems all your creative juices have just dried up?  That was me today!  I sat down at my table and….sat. And looked at my stamps.  Admired my new Combo ink holder.  Checked my e-mail to see if my new Ribbon Holder had been delivered – not yet, but by the end of the day, so….checked out all the ribbon I planned to put in it when it arrived.  Made sure I had a place to put it.  Looked at the three or four challenge blog e-mails I had.  Nothing came to my head.

I tried faking it.  You know, fake it till you make it?  I made a couple of dry embossed panels with sponging and stamping in the TIEFs.    One may make an appearance at some point – but one…oh my.  It went from Big Shot to trash can – didn’t even need to think about it.  No fixing it – no salvaging it for something sometime.  Just…toss!

Finally, I got a teensy inkling of what I could put together.  I’d gotten the Mojo Monday challenge – a Tall and Skinny Challenge – and a Stamp, Ink, Paper challenge – a color challenge.  I looked over at my scrap box and saw a piece of Early Espresso that was left over from when I was playing with my Simply Scored Board for Monday’s card.  The Stamp, Ink, Paper colors were….EARLY ESPRESSO, Blushing  Bride and Gold.  I took it as a sign from above.  And I was off!  Well, more …like I was…..off?

Somehow the Sweetbriar Rose came into my head when I thought of the Blushing Bride and Gold together.  Take a look-see:

As I mentioned – I used the Mojo Monday #421 Tall & Skinny Sketch challenge and the Stamp, Ink, Paper #20 Color Challenge.  Head over to both sites when you get done here – see what everyone’s come up with!

MM 421 Sketch

SIP 20 Sketch

I started by SNAILing a piece of Blushing Bride card stock to a mat of Gold Foil.  Then I pulled out the already-cross-hatch-dry-embossed scrap of Early Espresso card stock and figured out what I wanted to do with it.  Unlike the leaf embossing I did on Monday, this one had contrasting embossed stripes – some going one way, others crossing those in another direction.  And – some were embossed on one side and the others were opposite.  Kind of a different look!

So – I used the corner rounder punch on the opposite side of my Envelope Punch board, and rounded the two corners to correspond with the sketch.  Then I just SNAILd it to a Gold Foil mat, that had had its corners rounded in the same manner.  I SNAILd that to the Blushing Bride card front.

I made the “ribbon” by cutting a strip of the Gold Foil and then running it thru the Big Shot in the Woodgrain TIEF.  I snipped the end at an angle and then SNAILd it to the card front.

At that point, I decided I wanted just a little more….something…on the card front.  So, I added some “stitches” with my Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker.

The final element was the art piece.  I cut a 2 3/8″ circle from my Canson 90b Watercolor Paper with my Circles Collection Framelits dies.  Then I stamped just a portion of the Sweetbriar Rose image with Versamark ink, sprinkled it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and heated it up!

I colored the rose with my Blender Pens – the roses are Pink Pirouette, shaded with Blushing Bride, and the leaves are Pear Pizzazz, shaded with Mossy Meadow.  Then I SNAILd it to it’s Gold Foil mat, which I’d punched out with my 2 1/2″ Circle Punch.  I popped it on the card front with Stampin’ DImensionals.

For the sentiment, I went to my Watercolor Wishes sentiment stamps.  I stamped the words in Early Espresso on a piece of Blushing Bride card stock.  I used my Banner Triple Punch to cut the two ends, and then adhered it to a strip of Gold Foil, on which I fussy cut the ends to match the pink banner.

I SNAILd that to the circle, added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel to the center of the largest Sweetbriar Rose and two to the sentiment banner.  I popped the whole thing on my Tall and Skinny Early Espresso card base, and the front was done!

For the inside, I kept it very simple, but I actually did a THREE layer inner liner.  It’s Gold Foil, Blushing Bride and Whisper White.  I added the Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker “stitches” and that was it!

Sweetbriar Rose Just a Note 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

This card necessitates a custom envelope, so I made one from a piece of Whisper White Envelope Paper.  I added 1/8″ to the measurements on the Envelope Punch Board – per the instructions I give you here in my Tutorials.  After I made the envelope, I also made a custom liner for it – using a piece of Blushing Bride paper from the Subtles Backgrounds DSP Stack.

I embellished the front of the envelope with more of the Early Espresso stitches.

Et Voila!  It turns out that sometimes you can fake it until you make it.  I ended up being pretty happy with something I wasn’t sure I was ever going to get made! 🙂

Hey – tomorrow’s another of the Happy Stampers Weekly Blog Hops!  This week is a Sketch Challenge – be sure to come over and see what we all did with this:

P.S.  My Ribbon Holder from Stamp-N-Storage did arrive!  And it’s all decked out now on top of my Combo Holder – I’m still deciding the best way to organize the different ribbons so it’s not all color coordinated or anything yet.

Now….just need something for the 3000 embellishment containers and my surprisingly growing collection of Washi Tape! 😉

UPDATE:  I’m really happy to tell y’all that this card was a Design Team Pick for the Stamp, Ink, Paper challenge!  Whoo-hoo….and thanks to the nice folks over at SIP! 🙂
