Well, no Martian for us yesterday. Planning on it today, for sure! We did get to Costco – not to worry, they have a FEW things left! Our “real” Costco was summarily changed to a “business” center (read – “faux Costco!) last year. Now to get to the “real” one, we have to GO NORTH. And it’s just about that traumatic that it has to be all caps! It’s a significant emotional event for us on a normal day. Add in rain. Add in freeway construction. Add in a couple of accidents. The final tally yielded a day that was nightmare-fun-nightmare! But, the difficulty getting there means that when we DO go….well. We make it worth our while, if you catch my meaning! Let’s just say – it’s helpful to have a mini-van…. 😉
Anywho – today’s share is a Fall-y card that uses one single stamp from Lighthearted Leaves – and the “grateful” thinlit from the Seasonal Frame Thinlits dies. And the glorious and wonderful Kraft Corrugated Paper!! Take a look-see:
Sorry for the glare – I couldn’t get rid of it and still light the card. Professional photographer I am not! 🙂
The design layout was inspired by the CAS(E) This Sketch Challenge #144. They always do fun sketches and their design team always makes beautiful interpretations of said sketches – so be sure to check them out, okay?
As you can see, I stayed pretty true to the sketch! I started by stamping 9 of the smalles leaf images from Lighthearted Leaves. I first stamped them in Cajun Craze, on a panel of Crushed Curry. Then, I stamped them again, this time with Versamark. Being photopolymer, it was pretty easy to get the second image lined up with the first one. I sprinkled the Versamark with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed them. Just to give them a little bit of shine.
I cut them all out with the matching Leaflets Framelits, and adhered them to a panel of Kraft Corrugated Paper with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. Then I SNAILd that panel to a mat cut from a Gold Foil Sheet. You can see that my frame is a little bigger than normal – just trying something a little different. Not sure I like it – and will probably stick with my thinner matting. Oh well, you don’t know until you try, right? 😉
The sentiment is three die cuts of the “grateful” thinlit from the Seasonal Frame Thinlits dies. I did two cuts in Cajun Craze and glued them together with the Liquid Glue. The third cut was from Crushed Curry – and I adhered the Cajun Craze layers just slightly offset on the Crushed Curry – to create a lighter shadow.
I didn’t like how the sentiment looked against the leaves, so I needed to give it a background. Nothing seemed right – none of my dies. Not a plain rectangle or oval from card stock. It finally hit me! I took a short length of the 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon, cut the seam off the edges, and then pulled about 5 threads from each side to make a frayed edge all the way around. When I adhered the sentiment to it with Liquid Glue….it was just right!
Before I stuck it on the card front, I added small Pearl Basic Jewels to each of the leaf centers. Then I stuck three Glue Dots onto the card front behind where I was going to put the sentiment. I used those to let me wind some Gold Metallic Thread around to make a ….well, I guess it looks like a nest or something! And then, I said to myself “Self? Why don’t you use some of the burlap threads that you pulled out and saved?” And myself thought that was such a good idea that that’s what myself did! I made a few loops with the burlap thread and even let a few just stick straight out. Crazy!
I adhered the sentiment over my nest of Metallic and Burlap threads using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I used more Dimensionals to pop the entire card front onto my Cajun Craze card base and the front was done!
The inside is just a piece of Very Vanilla SNAILd to a mat of Gold Foil (smaller frame width – I wanted to leave as much note-writing space as possible!). Then I stamped a couple more of the leaves in the bottom corners in Cajun Craze. I colored the outside of the leaves with my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker.
The Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got a few leaf stamps as well. Two on the front….
…and one across the back flap!
El Voila! A Fall-y card, from just one stamp set and a couple of Thinlits! Hope that you like it and will give this combo a try. I love the shiny of the gold foil as counterpoint to the rustic corrugated paper. Add in a few pearls and some Gold Metallic Thread and….well. It’s all about the accessories, right?
I’ll be back in your inbox tomorrow – Monday (yuk) – with another project to share!
Don’t miss out on the Weekly Deals – do you remember that those White Perfect Accents can be colored with any alcohol-based marker (think Sharpie or Copic) to make them any color you want? Well. You can! 😉
