Stampin’ Up! Garden in Bloom Hello and Blog Candy #1 Winner!!

Yikes – can you believe it’s Friday already?!?  Crazy how fast time is flying by!  Seems like I look up and it’s Monday, blink and it’s Friday.  How about you guys – is the summer flying by for you?

My card today was inspired by two different challenges.  After you finish here, do take a minute to go over to their blogs and check them out, okay?

The design comes from Freshly Made Sketches, #198:

The color palette was inspired by Pals Paper Arts Challenge #260:

With those two starting points and the desire to add a “Hello/Just Because” card to my stash, here’s what I came up with.  Take a look-see:

I started by running a Whisper White panel thru the Big Shot in the Brick Wall TIEF.  Then I realized that I’d MEANT to do my stamping first!  So, with fingers crossed, I went ahead and added my stamps – all from the Garden in Bloom set.  I stamped the line drawings for the butterflies in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then added the second step stamp in Mint Macaron on two of the butterflies.  The third butterfly, I realized that I needed to do the lighter color first (and that Pool Party was lighter than Mint Macaron!!) so that’s what I did – used Pool Party for the wing fill-in stamp.  Then I used Mint Macaron for the final step.

And THEN I realized that the other papers I’d pulled out to use…..used Very Vanilla, not Whisper White.  Sheesh. 🙁  I spent a little time trying to tell myself it would look just fine – Whisper White with all the Very Vanilla in the DSPs…..and then I just sighed and realized I needed to start it over.  So, I did…. but I DID do it “right” on this go!  I stamped my Garden in Bloom flutterby’s FIRST – in Tuxedo Black.  And I did the second step stamp in Pool Party and the final step in Mint Macaron.  I’m nothing if not trainable!

I re-did my Brick Wall TIEF and then I SNAILd that to a piece of Pool Party card stock.  The three center-of-the-card elements were next, starting with the largest, bottom rectangle.  That’s a piece of the Pretty Petals DSP Stack, SNAILd to a piece of Tip Top Taupe card stock and then SNAILd to the card front.  The next layer up is a Mint Macaron piece from the 2015-2017 In Color DSP Stack on a mat of Pool Party card stock.  Before I stuck that one down, I added some 1″ Dotted Lace Trim.  It’s two layers – the bottom is Mint Macaron and the top is Tip Top Taupe – both are secured on the back with tape.  Then I used some SU! Dimensionals and some SNAIL to adhere the middle layer.

For the top layer, I stamped some flowers from Garden in Bloom onto a piece of Very Vanilla, in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Then I filled them in with Pool Party for the petals and Mint Macaron for the flower centers.  I SNAILd it to a Mint Macaron mat and then adhered it over the other two elements with Dimensionals and SNAIL.

The butterfly is a two-piece little guy.  The bottom ‘fly was born of the smallest die in the Butterflies Framelits Dies in Tip Top Taupe.  The top layer is cut from the same pattern of the Pretty Petals paper that I used on the bottom rectangle, and is cut using the smaller die in the Bold Butterfly Framelits.  I layered them together with Glue Dots and then attached them to the card front.  Then I added some Pearls Basic Jewels – did you think I wouldn’t!?

The sentiment is three-layers of Hello You Framelits die cuts in Tip Top Taupe.  Do not forget your waxed paper.  DO NOT FORGET YOUR WAXED PAPER!!  Questions? 😉  The three cuts are glued together with little bits of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  And then attached to the card front with the same glue.  Remember – you don’t need a lot of this glue – it’s stout, and you don’t want it squishing out between your layers or under your sentiment!

I popped the card front onto my Tip Top Taupe card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals, then moved to the inside.  Actually, I completely forgot about the inside!  I gussied up a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope with another Garden in Bloom flower and a couple of butterflies – all in the same color scheme as I’d used on the card.

Then I stuck the card into my really high-tech “photo booth” and started taking the pictures for this post.  And discovered my blank, neglected inside…… so, I put some of the Pretty Petals paper onto a Tip Top Taupe mat and SNAILd it to my Whisper White liner.

My.  Whisper.  White.  Liner.  In my Very Vanilla-centric card.  Tried again to tell myself it would be okay.  Sigh….of course it wasn’t okay!  So….pried my decoration off my stupid Whisper White liner and re-SNAILd it to my VERY VANILLA liner.  Good grief!

But, finally, I could say….Et Voila!  I think, regardless of how many re-do’s I had to do cause I was being all scatter-heided, it turned out right pretty!

See below for all the card cuts and products used in this card.

Stampin’ Up! Items Eligible For Sales Tax Holidays!

Did you know that some items in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog are classified as school supplies and qualify for the no-sales-tax benefit? The states typically define school supplies as “any items normally used by students in a standard classroom for educational purposes.”  Eleven states participate in the annual Sales tax Holiday in July/Aug:  Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Stampin’ Up! has created a spreadsheet listing the exemptions per the state statute based on item description and price. This spreadsheet lists the applicable items from the 2015-2016 annual catalog.  Please take a look for your states dates – and pay close attention to that.  All orders have to be submitted in the system within each date range for your state – no exceptions – per state statute.

Let me know if you have any questions, be sure to download the spreadsheet to see the specific items that are available tax free!!
