Stampin’ Up! By The Tide Hello!

Well, it’s Thursday already.  Again!  My, how time flies!  Speaking of time, this post will be my 95th since I started blogging back at the beginning of the year.  That means an annivesary approacheth!  Number 100.  That will be next Tuesday, if my count is right.  To mark the occasion, I’ll be giving away some blog candy!  So be sure to check back – the blog candy may not be RIGHT on the exact day…..!?

I decided for today’s card share to try out my new set (new to me, not to the catalog!) By the Tide.  I originally got it so I’d have something fishy to make cards for my bass-fishing hubby.  But, I’m pretty sure that bass – regardless of the size of their mouths or their propensity to spots or stripes or whatever  – don’t live in the same place as coral and sea-shells.  So, this is quite obviously not a lake bass.  But, it’s definitely a fish – might be a SEA bass, I suppose!  So, when it comes time to make a card for Wayne, hopefully he’ll squint his eyes a little and pretend it’s his kind of bass….. 🙂 Take a look-see:

The card design was inspired by Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #279.  Be sure to check out their blog and sign up to play, too!

The first thing I did for this card was to stamp the bass-ish fish in Crumb Cake ink on a piece of Crumb Cake card stock.  Then I did some coloring with my Stampin’ Write markers.  I used some Calypso Coral, a little Crushed Curry, some Crumb Cake and some Sahara Sand.  I just colored until it looked like a bass.  Surely some kind of bass has a pinkish belly!  Then, using my current favorite tool – my SU! Paper Snips – I cut him out.  And set him aside for later!  I just put him on the table, not in a live well, or anything….

I prepared the background image on the card front, starting with a piece of Crumb Cake card stock.  I made multiple stamps across the piece, using various stamps from the By the Tide set, in Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand.  Then I did some really light sponging around the edges with Sahara Sand.  When I was happy with it, I SNAILd it to a mat of Calypso Coral.

The art work consists of two circles – one a mat of Mossy Meadow cut with my Circles Collection Framelits,  and the top a piece of Crumb Cake punched with my 2/1″ Punch and  stamped with the coral image in…well, Calypso Coral.  Just seemed right!  The two circles are SNAILd together and then wrapped three times with some of the new Thick Baker’s Twine in Calypso Coral.  Then the entire layered piece is popped onto the card front with Dimensionals, and then that card front Dimensional’d to my Mossy Meadow card base.  I attached the bass-ish fish with a couple of Dimensionals over the top of the Baker’s Twine.

The sentiment is on a triple-layer banner starting with Mossy Meadow, then a Calypso Coral layer and, finally, a piece of Crumb Cake.  I stamped some of the script stamp from the set onto the Crumb Cake piece – I didn’t re-ink it after I’d finished the card front, so the writing is very light, indeed!  I stamped the sentiment in Calypso Coral – it comes from my fave set Watercolor Wishes!  With everything all SNAILd together, I stuck both ends into my Banner Triple Punch to banner-ize it.

I ran a double thickness of Linen Thread thru a Coral button from the Subtles Designer Buttons collection, and did a quick half-hitch knot.  That stuck me as being ever-so-nautical!  Then I used a Glue Dot to attach it to the sentiment banner.  Since the banner is half on the art circle and half off, I used both SNAIL and Stampin’ Dimenstionals to adhere the banner to the card.

That finished off my card front, so I moved inside.  I used some more of the By the Tide coral in Calypso Coral to decorate a piece of Crumb Cake and then SNAILd it to the inside of the card.

Just to round everything out, I stamped some more Calypso Coral coral onto a Medium Crumb Cake Envelope, et voila!  A complete underwater ensemble!

  1. Awesome card Mary! I love the touches of Calypso Coral…I’m sure that whatever fish this is has a pink belly. 😉 Great design!
