Stampin’ Up! Easter Message Dogwood

Happy Hawwmp Day, y’all!  How’s things?

My card today draws from one of my two favorite trees in the world – the Dogwood.  At this time of year, our dogwoods are in full, spectacular bloom.  And, against all the green of the woods, they look like white Christmas lights glowing.

I love them.  And cherish the time they’re blooming each year – always grateful when I get to be home while they’re doing their thing.  And, since they make their big showing just about in time for Easter, I figured I’d play off that today.  I used the Easter Message stamp set and the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set and matching punch.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from The Paper Players this week.

And the colors were inspired by the Stamp Ink Paper challenge.

I started with a piece of the chalkboard-y paper from the Urban Underground Specialty DSP and stamped the lily from the Easter Message stamp set in Whisper White Craft Ink around the edges of the paper.  When it dried – and that takes a few minutes and maybe some help with the Heat Tool! – I used my Pear Pizzazz and Pink Pirouette Stampin’ Write Markers and went over the white images – creating a colored chalk effect.

I adhered a Lace Doily with the Very Vanilla side up with some Liquid Glue.  Next, I cut a Stitched Shapes circle from Very Vanilla and a Circles Layering Framelits scalloped circle from Elegant Eggplant, adhered them together and then adhered them to the card front, overlapping the doily.

My central art piece is from the This Christmas DSP (I kind of liked the symmetry to using a Christmas paper here!).  I inked the Cross from Easter Message in Versamark and then inked it with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and stamped the DSP panel.  Then I sprinkled it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed the image.  Using the black under the Gold Embossing Powder kind of “antiqued” the gold.  Then I SNAILd the panel to an Elegant Eggplant mat.

I used Blender Pens and the ink from the lids of my ink pads to color the image.  The vestment is colored with Elegant Eggplant, the rope at the juncture of the timbers in Soft Suede and the Cross itself in Early Espresso.  When it was all colored, I popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment is from Easter Message and is stamped in Elegant Eggplant on a Very Vanilla strip that I snipped into a banner.  I used Stampin’ Dimensionals on both ends and some Liquid Glue in the center of the strip to adhere it to the card front.

The dogwood blossom is made with the small petal image in the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set – stamped in Pink Pirouette on Very Vanilla and then punched with the Blossom Builder Punch.

(Note:  these two items are available in a bundle for a 10% savings.  If this stamp set and punch carry over into the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog, the bundled price will go away.  So – if you like it, grab it now!).

I used a Sponge Dauber to add some more Pink Pirouette around the edges, curled the petals a little with my Stylus and then adhered them into their “cross” shape with Liquid Glue.  I made the center with stamped-off-once Pear Pizzazz and then added the stamens with the Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write Marker.  The center is popped onto the flower with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

I admit I got a little ate up about this blossom, y’all.  Not even gonna tell you how many of them I made before I got this one.  Let’s just say it was several more than “one”!

Using a couple of Glue Dots, I wound some Gold Metallic Thread around behind the flower, adhered it to the sentiment banner with Liquid Glue and the card front was done.

On the inside, I added the second sentiment from Easter Message in Elegant Eggplant on a Whisper White panel.  Over the top of that, I stamped the lily in stamped-off-once Smoky Slate ink.

I SNAILd the panel to an Elegant Eggplant mat and then into a Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another of the stamped-off-once Smoky Slate lily from Easter Message on the front…

…and added a little more of the musical paper from the This Christmas DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I think Easter Message is the prettiest stamp set – with simple, gorgeous images and perfectly perfect sentiments.  Easter is approaching quickly, so be sure this one is in your tool chest, okay?  Hope you like!

FINN-FAN FIX….

Well, folks.  It’s happened.

The pond-bee has been drowned-ed.

Turns out that, while the pond-bee will, indeed, float….that’s not necessarily a guarantee against drowning.

If the retriever of the pond-bee gets distracted – it happens! – then…

Finn dropped the pond-bee.  Then he bounced off to check out something he saw out in the pond.

A stick.  Looked like a big one.

See it out there?  About 2 feet beyond his schnozzle?  He’s as far as he can go and still touch the bottom.  And he was stuck there!

I don’t think he’ll stay stuck for long.  I’m betting we’re not too many days away from actually swimming!

Once he realized he couldn’t get the stick – today! – he remembered the pond-bee.

And bounced back over to it – and pounced on it.

Weeeeellll….turns out if you pounce the pond-bee flat down into the mud…

Yea.  You can’t get it.

You can sort of see it there – middle of the picture.

We may see it again when the pond level goes down.

In the meantime, guess I need to hit Pet Smart and find another $2 frisbee! 😉
