Stampin’ Up! Penned and Painted for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop.  If this is your first hop, thanks for coming.  We’re just a group of ladies who love Stampin’ Up! products and like making pretty projects with them.  Each week, we all play along with a common sketch or color challenge.  You get to hop thru all our blogs and see how many different ways we’ve all interpreted the challenge!!  If this is not your first time here, then welcome back and we thank you for spending some time with us! 🙂

This week, we had a sketch challenge.

I decided to make my diagonal element a little differently and I used a couple of techniques, all working together, to craft my card, using the lovely Penned & Painted stamp set.  Take a look-see:

Penned & Painted Just a Note 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I used layering, masking and a sort of modified spotlighting technique to create this card.  Let’s get started, shall we? 🙂

First I cut three rectangular panels from Shimmery White card stock.  I stacked them up on my work surface, using a tiny little piece of SNAIL between each piece to hold them in place.

I started by stamping the smaller flower image from Penned & Painted, in Stazon Jet Black ink around the panel – making sure to get a few images that went off the edges.

Penned & Painted Just a Note 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
While I had the stamp out and inked up, I stamped an image onto two sticky notes and fussy cut them.  I laid my masks over the flowers on the card and then stamped the large flower around the panel – overlapping the first flower and – again – being sure to go off the edges a few times.

Once again, I stamped a sticky note with the image and fussy cut it.

I then did the leaves.  Using the two different masks, I masked off the flowers and added the leaves outline image from Penned & Painted.

Once all the outlines were in place, I used a piece of thin Envelope Paper and laid it across my stacked panels – to act as a guide for the diagonal element of the sketch.  Everything above the paper got colored – everything below it remained black & white.

Penned & Painted Masks - Stamps-N-Lingers

I used my masks again and the second and third images for the two flowers in the Penned & Painted set.  I used Blushing Bride for the large flower – I didn’t have to stamp off or anything, just the way the images are made got the depth of color I needed.  On the smaller flower, I used Sweet Sugarplum.  For those, I did stamp off once before stamping the card.  The leaves are done in Pear Pizzazz – I stamped the “veins” image straight, and the “filler” image was stamped off once.  Each flower got a Crushed Curry center with the stamen image in the stamp set.

I decided to add the little ladybug from the same set, so I stamped him a few times all over.  Then I stamped him 5 more times on scrap Shimmery White, colored three of them with my Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker and fussy cut the body/head.

Penned & Painted Just a Note 3 - Stamps-N-LingersOnce all my stamping was finished, I carefully pulled the layers apart and SNAILd them to their Basic Black mats.  And then I SNAILd them all together (the only trick here is to be sure to keep the panels all right side up!).

I took my little fussy cut ladybugs and popped each of them in place on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I also gave them all a quick brush with my Clear Wink of Stella.  You can see that their legs and antennae are on the card front….

Penned & Painted Just a Note 9 - Stamps-N-Lingers
The sentiment is from Watercolor Wishes, stamped in Stazon Jet Black ink on Shimmery White and cut with the smallest straight-side oval in the Ovals Layering Framelits.  It’s matted on the smallest scallop-sided oval in the set, cut in Basic Black.  Then I popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and that was it for the card front.

Penned & Painted Just a Note2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the inside, I repeated the flowers and leaves outlines, using my masks, in the top and bottom corner on a piece of Shimmery White card stock.  I colored the flowers and leaves on the top corner, using the same colors and stamping off as I did on the front.  To mimic the front, I left the images in the bottom corner black & white!

Penned & Painted Just a Note 5 - Stamps-N-LingersI SNAILd that panel to a Basic Black mat and into my Pear Pizzazz card base, popped the front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

The Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got a quick repeat of the colored flowers on both the front…

Penned & Painted Just a Note 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and the back!  Ask me why there’s a flower in the bottom corner of the back of the envelope and not on the flap?  I think you probably know… 😉

Penned & Painted Just a Note 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  I’m kind of loving this Penned & Painted stamp set – the flowers are gorgeous and the way the “fill” images work makes the flowers look watercolored.  Imagine the color possibilities!? 😉
