Stampin’ Up! Waves of Inspiration Sneak Peek Birthday Pelican for the Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Blog Hop

Good morning, y’all – welcome to another edition of the Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Team blog hop!  Each month we make projects centered around a theme – and this month our theme is Birthdays!  We can interpret that any way we want – so…be sure to check and see everyone’s projects – we’ve got a bunch of talented ladies hopping with us this month!

I’ve had a card floating in my head since I set eyes on the new Waves of Inspiration bundle – this is the new one that you’ll be able to pick up on 1 Mar – or right now if you join the team! – and so today I decided to get that idea on paper.  Take a look-see:

The quiet color palette is from the As You See It challenge this week.

And I also played along with the Just Add Ink challenge.

I started by putting a Basic White panel into my Stamparatus and then inking and stamping the cute pelican-on-a-piling image from Waves of Inspiration in Crumb Cake ink.  Being that this is a DistIINKtive stamp – I inked the stamp with the ink pad, then tap-tap-tapped it with a Crumb Cake-inked Sponge Dauber.  Before I pulled the panel out of the Stamparatus – I daubed more Crumb Cake ink onto the edges of the pilings on the stamp and stamped it again.  This just added a little more depth!

I saw a cute design idea from Sue Vine the other day – the hand-drawn frame.  She has a clever way to get it started!

I used a Stitched Rectangle Die as a sort of guide.  I placed the die onto the card front and then, using my fine-tip end of my Evening Evergreen Stampin’ Write Marker, I used the inside edge of the die to draw the first rectangle.  Then I free-handed a few more lines – mixing in a Soft Succulent Stampin’ Write Marker.  And I used the Soft Succulent Marker to add some jaggedy accents here and there.

Is it perfect?  Nope.  But…that actually is part of the look, at least it is for me.

Which is crafty code for…that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it! 😉

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Calypso Coral mat for the card front.

I tied a single-loop Linen Thread bow – that’s like a Double Loop bow – but…only go around four fingers four times – skip the second set of four loops around 2 fingers – and adhered it to the card front with a Glue Dot.

On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped the Waves of Inspiration sentiment in Calypso Coral.  I cut it out with one of the label dies in the bundled Waves Die set.

I cut a 1/4″ strip of some Calypso Coral paper from the amazingly gorgeous Waves of the Ocean DSP (also coming on 1 March – yeah!!) and slipped it thru the slots on the die cut – using a little Liquid Glue on the back of the label to hold it in place.  Then I snipped banner ends with my Paper Snips.

I used double-stacked Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the label over the card front and the Linen Thread Bow.

Because it just seemed like the right thing to do, I added a few Evening Evergreen seagulls from Waves of Inspiration here and there.

I stopped there.  I WANTED to add some of the wunnermus Rhinestone Waves Basic Jewels but…MINIMALIST!!  YOU, though, when you make this card – go willy nilly with the Jewels!!  They’ll be available on 1 March but, like the DSP and the Blue Foils, are only going to be available while supplies last! 🙂

For the inside, I once again stamped the piling-perched-pelican in Crumb Cake, using my Stamparatus, in the corner of a Basic White panel.  Then I used the OUTSIDE of a larger Stitched Rectangle Die to start a frame – using both the Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent Stampin’ Write Markers.  I also added some seagulls!

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Calypso Coral mat and into my Evening Evergreen card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the pelican – and a seagull! – plus some completely free-handed lines on the front…

…and more of the Waves of the Ocean DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love love LOVE this new Waves of the Ocean collection and am really excited for you all to be able to get it for yourselves!  The Waves of Inspiration stamp set and bundled Waves Dies will be available in the new 2022-2023 Annual Catalog – but…the rest of the collection (coming on 1 March 2022) will only be available while supplies last.  Which means..be ready on the 1st.  Or…you know.  Sign up to be a discount shopper (a Stampin’ Up demonstrator who isn’t interested in a business but is VERY interested in a 20-25% discount!) and…you can add them to your Starter Kit!  Or…buy it on your first order with your shiny new discount!

I hope you like!

  3. This is so not you but I absolutely love it!

  4. Karen Ksenzakovic

WOW!!! Awesome card Mary and I love that frame and the soft colors. Can’t wait to get my set, it was supposed to be here last week

    • stampsnlingers

Yikes! Hope the big brown truck shows up SOON! 🙂 Thanks, Karen! 🙂

  5. Very pretty card, Mary. I struggle with minimalist cards but you made it look easy. I especially like the frame idea.

    • stampsnlingers

They’re hard for me, too, for sure! Thank you so much, Leslie! 🙂

  6. Tara Carpenter

Well you may have just pushed me over to get this set… I love this card! TFS

  7. Gerri K

Mary, I LOVE this card! The pelican is the star of the card and I love that pelican.

  8. Lauranne Dulis

Love that pelican on the posts! Love the WHOLE bundle!!! Can’t wait to get my hands on it. Do you remember the Sail Away stamp set from a couple of years ago? There was a die with it that cut out a long, narrow piece of rope. It can, of course, be cut to a shorter length. I think that could be used to make a really neat frame around the pelican, too!

    • stampsnlingers

Ohhh! Yes, I think it would! Great idea, Lauranne! I’m so happy that I was able to pre-order it – just one of the perks of being a demonstrator! 🙂

  9. Karen Lang

Oh boy, do I ever like that free-hand frame for your pelican! Such a great design & nice looking card. I will have to give this a try! Thanks for all the chuckles, Finn fantasies, & card ideas!

    • stampsnlingers

I love this simple design and I’m trying to visualize how you drew the frame. I’m not getting it. Any chance you would do a quick video to better explain it? I’m a visual person. 🙂
