Stampin’ Up! Peaceful Nativity Rejoice for Christmas – and a Blog Candy Winner!

Oh.  My.  Goodness.  It’s DECEMBER, y’all!  Can you believe that?  Which means less than a month away from Christmas!!

And – we’re less than a month from the Reason for the Season  – which I am really celebrating with today’s card from the Peaceful Nativity Bundle and some shiny Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from this week’s FUSION challenge – the sketch side!

I started with a piece of non-foil paper from the Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP that I matted on Crumb Cake for the card front.

The next layer is a second (foiled) piece of Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP, actually the reverse side of the first piece!  I matted it first on some Bronze Brushed Metallic Cardstock then on a piece of Crumb Cake.  I adhered the matted panel to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I inked up the manger and stable-front images from the Peaceful Nativity stamp set in Early Espresso and stamped them on Crumb Cake, then cut them with their matching die in the Nativity Die set.  While I was cutting, I cut five palm trees and the stable “walls and back” using the appropriate dies in the set.

I colored the palm trees with my Dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend and Mossy Meadows Stampin’ Blend Combo – then I adhered four of them to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I colored the die cut stable walls and back with my Dark Crumb Cake Blend and adhered it with Liquid Glue.

I colored the thatched roof of the stable-front with my Bumble Bee Stampin’ Write Marker and popped it over the first stable die with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I colored the Nativity using the Dark Crumb Cake Blend for the manger, Light Soft Suede Blend for Joseph’s robe and hair, Light Blackberry Bliss for Mary’s robe, and the White Stampin’ Chalk Marker for the swaddling.  I colored Joseph’s staff with the Early Espresso Stampin’ Write marker and the hay in the manger with the Bumble Bee Stampin’ Write Marker.

I popped the nativity onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

With the large star die in the Nativity Dies I cut a star from the Mango Melody section of a piece of Rainbow Glimmer Paper and adhered it with Liquid Glue.

I tied a Linen Thread Double-loop bow and adhered it with a Glue Dot.

On another piece of Crumb Cake, I stamped the Peaceful Nativity sentiment in Early Espresso and cut it with the smallest rectangle die in the Stitched So Sweetly die set.

I stacked three Stampin’ Dimensionals on the bottom right corner of the sentiment, placed a Glue Dot on the linen bow – and adhered the sentiment over the bow.  And…the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a second Peaceful Nativity sentiment in Early Espresso onto a Very Vanilla panel.  Above the sentiment, I stamped the large star from Peaceful Nativity in Mango Melody.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Crumb Cake mat and then into my Night of Navy card base, adhered the card front with Liquid Glue and the card was done.

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got five of the large Peaceful Nativity stars on the front in Mango Melody….

…and more of the Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  The Peaceful Nativity stamp set, with the bundled Nativity Dies, has all the components for you to create gorgeous nativity scenes for your Christmas cards!

Finn Fan Fix

Winter has come to Georgia.

Yes – last night was a hard freeze – down to 25F.

Yea yea – I know.  We’re wussies.  Y’all who live up in the great white frozen tundra just….shush now!

We live in the SOUTH – on purpose!  25 is TOO cold.  Sleet coming down is yucky.

Only the Finnster and the pony-girls are happy.  Mama… not so much.  😉

In preparation for the Big Freeze – I pulled all the remaining peppers and tomatoes out of the garden.

It was a pretty bountiful “last harvest”!

We also turned out my two potato bags.

I think the picture tells the story. 🙁

Pretty stinkin’ sparse.  I mean – that was IT!  We had lots of leaves and it looked like it had gone great guns.

But…nope.

Also?  They don’t taste good at all.

Darned good thing we weren’t counting on a bountiful potato harvest to see us thru the winter, huh?

Pretty disappointing.

    Beautiful card, Mary.

  2. Your card is beautiful Mary! Love the layering and the manger scene. Bummer on the potatoes…glad that you got quite a haul from the rest of the garden! 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Me, too! THOSE were quite satisfying for sure! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  3. Love your card Mary, as always. You can go ahead and make me 25 of them in your spare time!😂 Your potatoes are the most expensive in the grocery store. We laugh when we see bags of the little potatoes we always threw away growing up in the country. My granddad always said they were good for nothing. Wouldn’t he be surprise to know his culls are the most expensive these days.😀 Was Finn not helping gather the vegetables or was he cozy by the warmth of the fire

    • stampsnlingers

Nope – HE loves the cold weather. Can’t hardly get him to come in! And yes – it’s funny that the not-really-hardly-ready-to-harvest potatoes are the high dollar ones these days! Thanks, Shirley! 🙂

  4. Karen L

I don’t remember seeing “potato bags”! What the heck are they?? Yep, it is a mix of regret to see the warm weather leave & excitement for the cool & snowy weather to arrive. We live in a 4 Season state…..MN. Beautiful holiday card.

    • stampsnlingers

They’re big porous cloth bags from some Garden supply store that lets air in and water out. So…they do a good job. My potato starts were not great so….you know the saying. Garbage in…garbage out! I’m glad that you like the snow, Karen! 🙂 Thank you so much! 🙂

Love your nativity scene! Dang – another bundle I need to get that I hadn’t planned on.
About your tomatoes – for years, I picked the last ones and wrapped them in newspaper. They were OK, but tasted closer to a store-bought tomato. Then, a friend said they were better if you cut the whole plant off at the base and hung them upside down in a basement or garage. Yup – this seems to be the best way to harvest the last few. Have you tried that? Hmmmm . . . I guess I should have told you this yesterday . . .
I have no clue why the potatoes didn’t taste good. It just doesn’t make any sense. Do you have any idea?

    • stampsnlingers

LOL! Yep – too late to do that now! We’ll see how they go – they’ll likely end up as sauce anyway (at least most of them!). The potatoes were started from grocery store ones that had grown eyes. So…it was a crap shoot anyway. I was sort of shocked that they didn’t taste good – I don’t really know how to ‘splain that one! 🙁 Thanks so much, Angie! 🙂

  6. What a stunning card! I LOVE it! That is what a Christmas card should be.
As for the veggies….you gotta take the bad with the good, but it is a good thing you weren’t counting on potatoes to get you through the winter! My mom said that one year during the depression about all they had to eat was potatoes, so I guess their yield was better than yours!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you – I agree! 🙂 And I’ve had pretty decent potato years – way better than this one. I think the problem was that – even knowing better! – I used grocery store potatoes as my seed potatoes. First – and last! – time for that! 🙂

  7. Lovely Chrismas card Mary. That blue and bronze is a stunning combination. Thanks for joining us at the Fusion Card Challenge this fortnight. Tristan DT.

Thanks so much, Tristan – appreciate you stopping by!!
