Stampin’ Up! Magic Hallows Night Sneak Peek

Good morning!  Hope you had a great weekend and are ready to face the week!

So – I decided to switch gears a little and give y’all a sneak peek of a new suite in the Aug – Dec 2020 Mini Catalog geared towards Halloween! It’s called the Magic in This Night suite and it’s fun, you guys!  I used the Hallows Night bundle and some spooky-elegant paper from the Magic in This Night DSP. Not to mention the cool Cobwebs 3D Embossing Folder.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one was – sort of loosely! – inspired by this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I started by embossing a piece of Whisper White card stock in the new Cobwebs 3D Embossing Folder and matting it on Cajun Craze for the card front.

Using the largest circle Stitched Shapes Die, I cut a circle of elegant Magic in This Night DSP and adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

Next up, I cut some new Black Glitter Paper (this stuff is gorgeous – and super easy to die cut, y’all!) with the fun “lace” die in the Halloween Magic Dies (this is bundled with the Hallows Night stamp set!) and adhered the die cut to the card front with Liquid Glue.

Using my Stamparatus, I stamped the pretty label frame image from Hallows Night in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  On the inside, I stamped the sentiment in Cajun Craze.  Then I cut the sentiment with the smaller label die in the Halloween Magic Die set.

I used my Light Cajun Craze and Light Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blends to color the flowers and leaves, and popped the sentiment onto the card front.

A single Iridescent Pearl finished off the front of the card!

On the inside, I added a second sentiment from Hallows Night in Cajun Craze on a Whisper White panel.  I adhered a Cajun Craze-matted piece of the Magic in This Night DSP across the bottom.  Finally, I cut a not-at-all-scary little bat from new Black Glitter Paper and adhered it with a bit of Liquid Glue.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card front was done!

The front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope got a pretty, stylish bat in Tuxedo Black.  I used my Stamparatus, and only inked the smaller of the bats on the stamp…

…and more of the Magic in This Night DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Now – I know not everyone loves Halloween – but…this Magic in This Night is a fun Suite and it’s got some really great images and sentiments – and cool die cuts!

And the Magic in the Night DSP is gorgeously not-spooky in Cajun Craze, Blackberry Bliss, Pretty Peacock, Black and white!

I hope you like – and will take a look at my Special Bundle #6 – It’s Too Spooky! Great way to get some fun tools into your stash AND save some money at the same time!

Finn Fan Fix

Finn is taking a much needed rest – that bath wore him plumb out! 🙂

I’ve got some really gorgeous white hydrangeas that finally decided to bloom, so I’ve been cutting a few here and there these past couple of weeks.

Here’s my latest bouquet – brought it in the house on Friday.

Yesterday morning, when I went out to the kitchen to get my coffee – I noticed….

…a visitor.  Not moving.

I wasn’t sure how I’d missed seeing him while I was getting the flowers in the vase, but….chocked it up to…old eyes?

After I got off the treadmill and back in the kitchen…he was….not where I’d left him

Which is when I realized he wasn’t dead – as I’d feared – rather, he was in some sort of pollen-stupor.  Or something.

I could see him moving inside the petals and he was being pretty chill.  As Finn knows – I’m pretty quick to take a picture.

Or a video!

I admit I was pretty intrigued to see his face – tell me he doesn’t look like he’s got a little duck bill!! 🙂

Once I’d had my fill – I carefully carried the stem outside and “planted” it for a bit in the outside bed.

Took him a few hours, but…he finally departed the fix and I returned my stem….sans pollinator!…to the vase in the kitchen!

The adventures of life in the country!

  1. Hoping that I haven’t left this comment twice…I got the frowny face with a gray screen when I submitted it last time. Anyway, we both must have had Halloween on the brain today! Love your card. Glad that you found your winged friend before he got loose from the flower in your house. Hopefully he found a new flower outside quickly. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

Nope – I think the frowny was accurate – only got one comment! I left a similar one with you! LOL! Thanks, Amy! And yes – I hope he’s flitting about doing his pollinator thing! 🙂 Wonder if he misses me… ROFL!

  2. I am not a fan of Halloween but your card is a very nice un-scary one. Your flowers are gorgeous. Have the beest day ever.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks! And yes – I totally see what you did there! 🙂

  3. Charlotte Hutcheson

Mary, loved the video and I am so proud of you for not killing the beautiful bee…we need them all for the pollination of our food supply. I loved the inside sentiment from that stamp set. Stay cool, my friend.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Charlotte! Would never have occured to me to kill him – he wasn’t even a little scary. Just totally cute! 🙂

  4. Wow! Very interesting video. I never saw a bumblebee with a ‘duck bill’ before. When I saw that I thought, “It looks like a duck bill”, then I read your comment below. 😉 Great minds and all that!
There are hundreds of kinds of bees, but I think this is an American Bumblebee. Here is a link you might find interesting. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/1/110104-bumblebees-bees-decline-fungus-mystery-science-animals/
As for your card, it is a very LOVELY Halloween card. Oxymoron?
I am not a big fan of Halloween, but I do like this stamp set, and the DSP is pretty nice too.

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – great minds, indeed! Thanks for the article and the photo. It’s fun to have him identified. And I hope he does NOT have the fungus…and that he’s off somewhere pollinating everything! Thanks so much, Julie! 🙂

  5. Gerri K

    Mary,
That is the coolest video ever!!! I assume that is a bee? If so, you sure grow em big in Georgia! And yes, he has a duck bill.
Love the card! I especially like the sentiment label and stamp that goes with it. Also cool!
    Thanks for sharing.

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – he’s an American Bumblebee – according to a photo/article from Nat Geo that my friend Julie sent me! Cool, right? Thanks so much, Gerri – it’s a fun set! 🙂

  6. Ah yes, the elusive duck-billed bumblebee! Frequently sought, but rarely seen. 😁

  7. Connie Kissel

Absolutely fascinating video Mary. Quick draw you are. He has a duck bill for sure. To bad he fell asleep.

    • stampsnlingers

I think he was in a pollen-coma! I found out – thanks, Julie Johnston! – that he’s a for real American Bumblebee!! Thanks, Connie! 🙂
