Stampin’ Up! Gather Together Moose with Video Tutorial for The Paper Players

Hey y’all – it’s Sunday, which means I’ve got another fun challenge for you from the Paper Players – it’s a sketch challenge from Anne-Marie.  I know it’ll give your creative mojo a bump, so I hope you’ll come and play along with us!  🙂

If you were able to join me yesterday for my Facebook Live video, I appreciate you spending some of your weekend with me!  If you weren’t able to watch the live version, but you’d like to see the replay on YouTube…here ’tis!

Now – the stamp set, dies and PUNCH are all “new” in the Aug – Dec 2020 Mini Catalog but…these are some of your favorites from last season’s holiday catalog!  I speak, of course, of the Gather Together stamp set, with the coordinating die set – Gathered Leaves.  And – they came back as a BUNDLE! Which means you’ll still be able to get them at the 10% off savings!  WHOOO-HOOO!!!  I’ve also used the sweet little Moose Punch on this one.  Take a look-see!

And here’s our Paper Players sketch challenge badge!  Come play!

And – I think this could be a Thanksgiving card real easy, so I’m playing along with the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge!

I saw a cool technique for masking a big ole pile of leaves and then watercoloring them at Beth’s Paper Cuts – and I loved it so much I gave it a go.  Beth used the new Loyal Leaves set – which I don’t have.

Yet! 😉

So I did it with my old friend the Gather Together oak leaf!

The video is the best way to see how to do it – but in a nutshell – I made three sticky note masks of the leaf image and then, using the masks and Stazon Saddle Brown ink, stamped the leaf all over a piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.  The goal is to make them look like they’re all piled up!

Once the ink was dry, I used the larger pointy brush in the new Water Painters to color the leaves.  I colored them in Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze and Cherry Cobbler.

Then I cut the image with a large Stitched Rectangle Die and cut a smaller rectangle from the middle.

I cut a large Stitched Rectangle Die from a piece of Cajun Craze Regals 6″ x 6″ DSP and adhered the larger watercolored piece to it with Liquid Glue.  Then I used some Stampin’ Seal+ to adhere a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon at a diagonal.

And yes – I realize (now. Again?) that this wonderful ribbon is retired.  I have GOT to take it off my shelf! 🙁  So sorry, you guys!

Next – I popped the center rectangle back in place with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped the large Gather Together leaf in Stazon Saddle Brown ink on another piece of the Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and colored it in Cajun Craze with the Water Painter. Then I cut it with the coordinating die in the Gathered Leaves set.

I cut several leaves from Crushed Curry and Cherry Cobbler card stock – spritzing the card stock with my mister first – and lightly curled them with my fingers.

Finally – I stamped the Gather Together sentiment in Early Espresso on Watercolor Paper and cut it with a Stitched Rectangle Die.

I built my collage – starting by adhering the die cut card stock leaves with Liquid Glue.  Then I added the stamped and colored leaf with a couple of Dimensionals.

The sentiment is also popped on with Dimensionals.

I added a double-loop Linen Thread bow with a Glue Dot – then popped the Early Espresso Moose Punch over that with Dimensionals.

Finally – I colored some Rhinestone Basic Jewels with my Dark Cajun Craze Stampin’ Blend to adhere here and there – and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped the large leaf in Early Espresso ink and colored it with my Light Cajun Craze Blend.  Tip:  Do not use Stazon when you’re coloring with Blends – they do NOT like each other one teensy bit! 😉  I added some dots around the edges of the leaves with my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Cajun Craze mat and into my Early Espresso card base and to add the card front as well – and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another couple of leaves on the front…

…and a little more of the Cajun Craze Regals 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila! Ahh – this card makes me feel all cozy and fuzzy!  I love Fall!  And I LOVE Fall cards – which means that I was thrilled no end to see the return of the Gather Together Bundle!  And Mr. Moose is such a cutey – I’m pretty happy to see HIM back, too!  I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Well – Spa Day happened.

And it was…okay.

Well – probably I thought it was more okay that the Finn-ster did.

He’s just not that bigga fan, you know?

I gathered up the goodies in my Thirty One Small Utility Tote.

Then decided I’d best add a little sumpin’-sumpin’ to sweeten the deal!

FYI?  The old blow dryer doesn’t blow NEARLY enough to make any sorta dent.  So – it was a wasted tool. 😉

Here’s the spa we took him to – yeah, kinda bare bones.  But no one has to wear a mask, so…there’s that! 😉

My back DID think it would have been better about a foot higher.  😉

We washed and scrubbed…and rinsed copiously!

Looks a bit like a drowned rat.  I was shocked at how much DRY FUR was still under that sopping topcoat! 😳😳😳

So we rinsed some more.

And then we sprayed with Show Sheen (like de-tangler but for horses and dogs) and then we brushed.

And…brushed.

And then?  We brushed.  I had the undercoat rake and Wayne had a slicker brush.

We brushed for WAAAAY longer than my back OR his patience was happy with!

Finally – we lifted him out of the tub – yeah, this spa doesn’t have a ramp! – and stood him in front of the big fan to help him dry.

I’ve just washed my hair and I can’t do a THING with it!

We also used the big blower – which he didn’t love – but…it’s about the only way to really rid him of the excess hair!

Back in the house – he FLOPPED in front of the A/C vent.

Wayne said he has “poodle butt” now (the curly-ish hair right in front of his tail is sticking straight up!)…so he tried to smooth it down!

Dad’s kinda weird.

This whole bath-thing is why Finn is happy he’s not a show dog.  Or even a therapy dog.  You know how many baths THEY have to have!?  Yikes!  😳

  1. He may not have liked the process any more than you and Wayne did, but I’ll bet he felt better. Great card again, as usual, and fun video. I MAY try that technique. It makes a lovely card, but I am a bit lazy to go to that much trouble.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Julie – it’s a lot of coloring, no doubt! But – might be worth a try! 🙂

  2. Beautiful card! Great video last night too! 🙂 Poor Finn…baths are rough on a guy. And Ginny wants to know what’s wrong with having poodle butt?? 😉

    • stampsnlingers

Nothing is wrong with poodle but. On a POODLE! Or a DOODLE! Not on an aussie hiney!! ROFL! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  3. Your card is delightful! The pretty fall leaves make me think of cooler days! And I am sure Finn felt cooler after his spa day, LOL!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, LeAnne! He has sworn that he will NEVER admit to feeling better! 🙂

  4. Faith Simpson

Poor Finn…..I feel about the same way trying to do my hair at home…..only I like it done really often and actually AT the salon…..which isn’t happening of course…..
Facebook live was fun……beautiful card, and I think that’s the best leaf set ever.

    • stampsnlingers

Right? I am so ready for a day at the salon/spa/massage envy! Finn – on the other paw – is hoping that salon/spa day does NOT happen again any time soon! Thanks, Faith – yes. This is one of the best group of leaves ever – especially the die set!

  5. Love the story, pics and your card. Sorry I couldn’t stick with you last night. My son grilled an amazing dinner!

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – it sounded like y’all were fixin’ to eat GOOOOD!! Thanks for watching, Karen!! 🙂

  6. Rita

It’s so nice to see beautiful autumn cards …. looking forward to the more comfortable weather, aren’t you?! Your photos of spa day remind me of the time we took our full-sized Collie, Bandit, to the groomer and when we came to pick him up we found a very tired dog and a very exhausted groomer both lying in the grass trying to recover from the extreme physical exertion! It’s not a task to be undertaken by the faint-hearted! LOL All of us but Bandit had a good laugh at the scene in the grass … I don’t think he was amused … but, like Finn, he was beautiful and smelled so nice!!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes! It’s exhausting for all involved. But – so necessary. My next dog is going to weigh 8 pounds and have VERY short hair!! ROFL!! And yep – very ready for some cooler autumn days! Thanks much, Rita! 🙂

  7. Linda Callahan

Love the moose with the leaves!

  8. Paula Poindexter

    Again, great card Mary!

Water (puddles, rain, lake, pond) good!
Baths are not! My Lab hated baths with a passion worth fighting for. Finn was a good boy!

    • stampsnlingers

He is good – he doesn’t fight – just looks pitiful even as he enjoys the massage and the pampering!! Thanks so much, Paula! 🙂

  9. Kathy Hamrick

Oh my Mary – once again great inspiration – why had I never thought to use that moose with Fall colors instead of the winter things?!!! and ofcourse any story with Finn is enjoyable – even if it isn’t really enjoyable for him.!

  10. Finn and his spa! I had afghans and the only way I could bath them was to get in the shower with them and yeah…it does take a strong (and much younger) back to handle all that! He looked great at the end of it though!

The textures on your card are fabulous, Mary. I love that you used the moose punch on the front – it really does look as though he’s going for a fall walk through the forests on Minnesota. Wonderful take on the sketch
    hugs
    jaydee

    • stampsnlingers

Oh my goodness – I can hardly imagine the amount of HAIR! Yikes! Also – it made my back hurt just thinking about it! Thanks for the nice words, Jaydee!! Appreciate you coming by!:)

  11. Joanne James

That leafy background is amazing Mary! I love the autumnal colours. All that layering and the moose is a great finishing touch. A fabulous card (and I still have some of that ribbon trim too 😉 )

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Joanne! 🙂 Appreciate you coming by! 🙂

  12. I love fall cards and yours is a real beauty, Mary. The “pile” of leaves turned out great, then adding more, along with Mr. Moose, to anchor your sentiment really was perfect! Poor Finn may not have enjoyed his spa treatment but he sure looked handsome afterwards!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Stef! Love the moose and the leaves together! And thanks – we think he’s a handsome boy, for sure! 🙂

  13. Oh Mary, I love all these gorgeous leaves! I love Fall and all the regal colors! That moose looks amazing standing amongst them! I love it!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Claire! Love the moose!! 🙂

  14. Ann Wilcox Schach

So awesome, Mary! I love the design of this card for sure. You can’t beat a moose and leaves combo. Poor Finn! Yep…this is why I show “wash and wear” Boxers, and why my therapy dog is a Boxer! Although I will say, more than once ringside I have applied a wet towel on a Bernese Mountain Dog my handler was showing to combat “poodle butt”. lol

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – Poodle Butt on a poodle is great – but NOT on an Aussie or Bernie, for sure! I do miss the wash-and-wear nature of my previous labs!! But – wouldn’t trade Finn’s sweet face for anything! Thanks so much, Ann! 🙂

  15. Oooh, this puts me in the mood for Fall…said as it was almost 100 degrees today. We can dream, right? I love the rick colors and how you paired that moose with the leaves. So creative, as always!

    • stampsnlingers

Yea – I’m ready for some cooler weather – for sure. Heck – at this point I’d be happy with less humidity!! Thanks so much, Anne Marie! 🙂
