Stampin’ Up! Forever Blossoms with Video Tutorial for the Paper Players

Hey y’all – it’s Sunday, which means I’ve got another fun challenge for you from the Paper Players – it’s a Color Challenge from the talented JayDee this week and it’ll for sure jump-start your creative mojo!  I hope you’ll come and play along.  🙂

If you were able to join me last night for my Facebook Live video, I appreciate you spending some of your weekend with me!  If not, but you’d like to see the replay on YouTube…here ’tis!

The color palette for our challenge didn’t really “scream” one thing or another when I saw it – which meant it was wide open for me!  I finally decided to play with a sponging and silhouette technique – using the pretty floral from the Forever Blossoms stamp set.  Take a look-see:

And here’s this week’s Paper Players Theme challenge!  Hope you’ll join the fun and show us your projects!  I can’t wait to see what you create!  🙂

The layout is from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

This is really easy so – I hope you’ll try it!

I started with a Whisper White panel for the card front.   From a second, identically sized, piece of card stock, I cut a Stitched Nested Label – this one is 4 1/4″ from tip-to-tip.

Using repositionable adhesive (like this one), I tacked the die cut panel to the Whisper White panel.

With sponge wedges, I sponged the middle of the opening with So Saffron.  I used Seaside Spray on the top and bottom.  Go easy – start lightly and off the edge with your sponge.  🙂

When I had the color to the depth that I wanted it, I picked up my mask and used a rubber eraser to remove the little adhesive dots.

I placed the panel in my Stamparatus and used it to stamp the big floral image from Forever Blossoms in Granite Gray.  I stamped it a couple of times to get the image as dark as I wanted.

I stamped the Forever Blossoms sentiment in Gray Granite and then added some faux stitches around the shape with my Gray Granite Stampin’ Write Marker.

I matted the panel on So Saffron for the card front.  With my Dark So Saffron Stampin’ Blend, I colored three Pearl Basic Jewels and adhered them here and there.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Forever Blossoms in Gray Granite on Whisper White.  I added part of the large floral image in Gray Granite – and lightly colored just the middles of the flowers with the Dark So Saffron Blend.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a So Saffron mat and into my Seaside Spray card base, popped the card front on with Stampin Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got the Forever Blossoms image again in Gray Granite and So Saffron on the front…

…and some Seaside Spray 2019-2021 In Color 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Mark the day – no layering, no bows, minimal bling! – is this REALLY a Mary card?!?  Yes – ’tis!  I love how this Forever Blossoms stamp set worked for the silhouetted image – perfect without die cutting or adding any “extras” to it.  It’s just that gorgeous of an image!  I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Finn waiting for me to get done cleaning the barn in the morning…

Are you coming in the house with me?

Huh?

Oh – Nah – I’m good.

Just enjoying the morning!

And – before I go – a picture of the marigolds I started this year – they’re growing great guns in the garden

Sooo pretty!

  1. Such a beautiful card! Love the sponged area and the clean design!! Stunning! Well…Finn does have a nice comfy seat in the shade and he’s up so that he can keep an eye out for the intruders and squirrels…looks like the perfect spot for a busy guard dog. 😉

He who owns the high golf cart is the sure winner. Pretty sure Sun Tzu said that… 😉 Thanks Amy! 🙂

  2. Susan K

Happy Easter. Beautiful card. I love your collage cards but this single layer sponging and silhouette is warmly and welcoming.
Finn is the poster boy for laid back and chilling out. I’m impressed with your pretty marigold! Must be that good dirt!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – the dirt is the real deal, for sure. Thanks so much, Susan! 🙂

  3. I absolutely am in love with this card and Finn! I’m not a fan of marigolds but this one is really pretty. Happy Easter to the Deatherages.

    • stampsnlingers

That’s sort of how I feel about marigolds – I need them for the garden but they’re for sure not my first choice. These, though – I really love!! Thanks, Karen – Happy Easter back to the Finkles!!

  4. What gorgeous sponging and shading! You’ve nailed this technique! Lovely florals as well! Happy Easter!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, LeAnne! Happy Easter to you, too! 🙂

  5. So soft and pretty! Have a Happy Easter!

  6. Gerri K

    Mary,
Watched your fb live last night. I just love his card. It’s very soothing. I enjoy the live tutorials more than ever now. It’s the closest thing to getting out and visiting people.
    Hope you enjoy your Easter.

    • stampsnlingers

Right? As close as we can get right now! Thanks so much, Gerri! 🙂

  7. You did mention the pretty marigolds in your video. They are pretty. My son-in-law loves marigolds. I usually buy a flat of them for him. He puts them everywhere. Finn does certainly look like he is enjoying the morning. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. May have to CASE this one too. Sometimes certain old techniques get overlooked in the quest for the NEW. Love this card, even though it isn’t your usual style.
    Happy Easter and Stay Well.

    • stampsnlingers

I like these – the plain yellow or orange ones…not so much! 😉 Thanks much, Julie – appreciate the kinds words! 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Karren – appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  11. Stef Perry

Your ink blending is perfection, Mary (my favorite trick is to end up with unwanted green when trying to blend those two colors LOL!) and the flower looks gorgeous stamped across the corner of it! Beautiful card!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – yeah. Always a problem! There might or might not be a little green lurking in there! 😉 Thanks much, Stef! 🙂

  12. Mary
I just love how you left the flowers neutral and showcased the colors. Fabulous CAS design, too. Gorgeous card
