Stampin’ Up! Ornate Style Sneak Peek for the Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Blog Hop

Good morning, y’all – welcome to another edition of Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Team blog hop!  Each month we make projects centered around a theme – and this month our theme is Celebrate Spring!  We can interpret that any way we want – so…be sure to check and see everyone’s projects – we’ve got a bunch of talented ladies hopping with us this month!

Park.  Territorial.  Burpee’s.  Johnny’s.  Those names sound familiar to you?  Well – if they do, then you understand the terrible and wonderful temptation that comes every spring in the mailbox.  SEED CATALOGS!  Filled with page after page of flowers and vegetables and herbs, just waiting for a gardening genius like myself to plant them and bring their bounty to life.  When the catalogs arrive, I am suddenly and acutely struck with a GREEN THUMB fantasy.  In this fantasy – I plant all the beautiful flowers I see in all the seed catalogs.  They’re all in JUST the right place to get the right sun, I’ll weed them every day, water when they require it, deadhead to ensure bountiful flowers….on and on and on.  And – I’ll cut bundles and oodles of beautiful blooms that I will then artfully arrange in one of my many shabby chic farmhouse-perfect flower holders that are stored in my perfect pantry…..

And then?  I realize…I better put my spring flowers on a card.  Cuz…THAT, I really CAN do.  And that’s what I did for you today.  I put some new Ornate Garden Specialty DSP to work with daisies from the new Ornate Style stamp set and a few die cut beauties from the Ornate Layers Die set.  Take a look-see:

Now – this Ornate Garden Suite will be available to y’all on 1 April (no joke!).  Or…you COULD get it right now.  Give me a shout if you’d like to find out how!

This is a fun-fold card, but the layout for the front is inspired by the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge this week.

I started by cutting the Old Olive card base to 5 1/2″ x 7 1/2″  and scoring it at 3 1/4″.   That makes the front of the card just 3 1/4″ wide.

I matted a piece of the Ornate Garden Specialty DSP on Terracotta Tile and adhered it to the small card front with Liquid Glue.

With a die in the new Ornate Layers Die set, I cut a rectangle frame from Terracotta Tile.

Using Liquid Glue on the left side of the die – to about 1″ from the right edge – I adhered the die cut to the card front, letting the edge hang over as you can see in the photo above.  Be sure not to get glue on the exposed part of the die cut – if you do, wipe it with a damp cloth quickly, or wait until it dries and rub it off with a gum eraser! 🙂

On a piece of Whisper White, I stamped a daisy from the Ornate Style stamp set (part of the new Suite coming on 1 April!) in Tuxedo Black.  I started with the flower in the middle.  Then I added the second flower on the right.

I fussy cut two masks of the image from sticky notes and covered the first two flowers before adding the third (the one on the left).

I picked up the masks and colored the leaves with my Old Olive Stampin’ Blends Combo Pack.  For the flowers, I used my So Saffron Combo Pack – only coloring the middle and about half of each petal.  I also used my Light Mango Melody Blend near the middle.  Finally, I used the Color Lifter to blur the edges of the colored parts of the petals. The panel is adhered with Liquid Glue.

For the sentiment, I stamped the large sentiment from Ornate Thanks in Old Olive on a piece of Whisper White.  Using the “I’m” and “for all your help” sentiment images, I added them in Terracotta Tile, tucked right up to the first sentiment.

I used the long rectangle die in the Ornate Layers Die set to cut the sentiment and then popped it on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I added another Ornate Thanks sentiment in Old Olive on a Whisper White panel.  Over the top, in stamped-off-once Tuxedo Black, I added the daisy image.  I used just the Light So Saffron Blend and a smidge of Light Mango Melody Blend to lightly color just the flower.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Terracotta Tile mat and into the Old Olive card base and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got the daisy in full-strength Tuxedo Black and colored with the Blends on the front…

…and a little more of the Ornate Garden Specialty DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  So….are you excited to get the new Ornate Garden Suite – with the beautiful Ornate Thanks and Ornate Style bundles with those wonderful images and die sets??  Between those, and the lovely spring-flower-strewn Ornate Garden Specialty DSP, this suite is one you WILL want!  I promise.  I hope you like!

  1. I’m so glad you are doing sneak peeks with this set as I have no clue what I’m going to do with it when it arrives Thursday. You and Amy will be my jumping off point. Thank you!

    • stampsnlingers

Yeah for inspiration – and I can’t wait to see what you do with it when you get it this week!! Thanks so much, Karen! 🙂

  2. Dee Kepker

Thrilled to get these dies!!!! This is what I have searched for and couldn’t find. Glad I am back with you. 😃👏👏👏

  3. So pretty! I love everything about this card, especially the surprise daisy on the inside!

  4. Leslie Larkin

Mary, again, you’ve made a beautiful card with this set. I especially like the color combo and rectangular die set.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Leslie – it’s a really cool Suite! 🙂

  5. This is gorgeous Mary 🙂 Love your design and that frame is just stunning. I love this suite and can’t wait to get mine. I know the temptation of those catalogs. You need a LOT of willpower this time of year. I get them all along with carrying seeds at work too.

    • stampsnlingers

Yes, yes we do! My eyes are bigger than my Green Thumb!! Thanks, Karen – and…stay STRONG! LOL!! 🙂

  6. Pretty, pretty. love the offset front, and that frame! Maybe I need to do my flowers on a card instead of in my yard. Much easier, and, probably more realistic.

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – I doubt that you have any issues with having a green thumb, Julie! Your Master Gardener status says otherwise! 😉 Thanks very much! 🙂

  7. So pretty Mary! Love those daisies and that designer paper is awesome! 🙂

  8. JenniferE

So pretty! Love the smaller front panel so the die cut reaches over to the inside.

    • stampsnlingers

      Thanks Jennifer – it’s a fun fun-fold – and so easy!! 🙂
